Abstract: A nectarine tree which is large, vigorous, upright to spreading, medium in size and texture of the trunk and branches, foliated with large to medium size, medium thick, lanceolate, acutely pointed leaves having a crenate margin and globose glands, blooms mid-season with large flowers, and a regular and very productive bearer of large, symmetrical, globose, freestone fruit having yellow skin substantially overspread with red, and yellow flesh.
Abstract: The invention relates to a new and distinct variety of Blackberry plant most nearly resembling the Wild Blackberry which exhibits (1) an absence of thorns or prickles, (2) the common occurrence of palmately compound leaves having five leaflets, (3) sturdy canes which support an unusually large upright-arching plant, (4) unusually long trailing stems, and (5) substantially round berries which form in an unusually abundant quantity and ripen over an unusually extended period.
Abstract: Packaging apparatus in which units to be wrapped and flexible packaging material for wrapping the units are fed forward with the units spaced apart in the direction of feed, with a dwell interval between successive feed cycles, and having means for forming a seal across the width of the material between two successive units during each dwell interval. The units are fed forward by conveyor means intermittently driven via a chain and sprocket drive including a crank rotatable about a predetermined axis, means for continuously rotating the crank in one direction about its said axis, a first sprocket secured to the crank with the axis of the first sprocket offset from the crank axis for rotation of the first sprocket about the crank axis without rotation of said first sprocket about its own axis, a second sprocket and a chain trained around said first and second sprockets. The sealing means is operated during the dwell intervals by a similar chain and sprocket drive mechanism.
Abstract: Multifilament polyester yarn, of multilobal filaments having specified cross-sectional characteristics, is false-twist textured into yarn which provides fabrics having improved visual aesthetics. The examples illustrate that freedom from objectionable glitter is obtained with 6 to 10-lobed filaments, having essentially symmetric lobes of equal length equispaced around a central axis of the filament, when the modification ratio is from 1.17 to 1.85, and the denier per filament is between 3.8 and a maximum value which is a function of the modification ratio and the number of lobes.
Abstract: .Iadd.A method of laying pipe on the floor of a body of water to form a pipeline in which the pipe section to be joined is at all times securely and stably supported by a mobile frame such that, during alignment and engagement, the pipe is substantially free from the influence of wave and current action. A pipe section is first releasably attached to a mobile frame, then lowered to the floor where it is placed in a stable-fixed position on the floor generally aligned with but spaced from the end of the previously laid pipe. The end is then aligned with the pipeline by lateral and/or tilting movement of the frame, and then moved axially into engagement with the end of the pipeline. The alignment and engagement procedures may be observed, directed and/or controlled from a region at atmospheric pressure. The method may also include holding the engaged pipe section in a stable position while placing ballast material thereunder. After engagement, the frame is released from the section and returned to the surface..
Abstract: Web supply apparatus for supplying relatively stiff web material such as liner board for a corrugator serves the web from one of two supply rolls. The running web passes through a splicing station and a festoon on its way to the web-consuming machine. The leading end of the ready web is prepared on a web positioning bar away from the splicing station and then carried by the bar to the splicing station while the running web is being consumed. When the roll of running web expires, a control system automatically stops the roll of running web and special pressure pads at the splicing station press the running web and ready web together to make a strong splice between them. Immediately thereafter, a knive fires directly behind the splice, thereby cutting the trailing end of the running web. The pressure pads firmly grip the webs above and below the line of the cut so that the knife slices cleanly through the web.
Abstract: A device for attachment to skis comprising a vertical member and a base plate on which said vertical member can move relative to the base plate. The vertical member may be springhinged to the base plate. The vertical member is preferably airfoil shaped.
Abstract: There is disclosed a class of fluoroalkoxyphenylsubstituted nitrogen-containing heterocycles which are useful as herbicides, plant fungicides, and plant growth regulators. Internodal elongation of plants is inhibited by treatment with compounds of this invention.

Abstract: Metal-organo complex characterized as having at least one sterically exposed metal-metal bond, and having the structure:R.sub.n M M'R.sub.nwherein R represents a ligand which may contain one or more atoms of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur or phosphorus; n is an integer of from 1 to 3; M and M' each represent the same or a different transition metal; and the symbol represents at least one sterically exposed metal-metal bond. The preparative method involves the low temperature reaction between an alkali metal naphthalene in an ethereal solvent, with the dihalogenide of at least one metal-organic species. The reaction mixture is allowed to slowly warm to ambient temperatures, the solvent is evaporated, and the naphthalene sublimed at temperatures below 40.degree. C. The remaining crude product is extracted with an organic solvent, the extract is separated from the insoluble portion, and the product recovered by evaporating the solvent.
Abstract: In a process for extruding thermoplastic film means are provided for maintaining substantially free from deposit a wire electrode which is used to deposit an electrostatic charge on to the upper surface of the film. In a preferred embodiment the wire electrode is continuously unwound from a first reel on to a second reel. The wire electrode is kept substantially free of deposit by means of either a scraper plate or a current of air which is passed between the film and the wire electrode to prevent deposits from forming.

Abstract: A connecting block in which a support member has a large number of terminal clips extending through the member, for connection of wires to both ends, the support member pivotally mounted in a housing so that one or other side of the support member, and related ends of terminal clips, can be selectively presented for wiring. A hinged cover attached to the support member can be utilized to retain the support member in one selected position, the support member normally positioned in the other position, as by gravity.
Abstract: A face guard accessory adapted to be attached to a motorcycler's helmet for protecting and shielding the nose, mouth and lower portions of the face from rocks, dirt and other flying debris encountered in riding. The face guard includes a shield portion removably attached to the helmet by a pair of side members slidably inserted in respective anchor clamps which are rigidly fastened to the exterior of the helmet. The anchor clamps are provided with respective threaded fasteners which engage the slidable side members and enable the user readily to attach and remove the shield portion and adjust its degree of forward extension as desired. Vent openings are provided in the shield portion of small enough dimension to prevent the entry of gravel, rocks and similar gross flying particles while permitting the passage of air.
Abstract: A pair of protective plates are releasably secured to the back side of a glove. One plate covers the back of the hand and the other plate covers the lower portions of the fingers. The two plates are spaced apart to allow freedom of movement of the knuckles at the base of the fingers, but the plates are spaced sufficiently close to each other to protect these knuckles. When used with a batter's glove the plates conform to the curved configuration of the hands while gripping a bat, and the plates are configured so as to prevent interference between them when the bat is swung. For other uses, such as motorcross, the plates have a slightly different configuration.
