  • Patent number: 4148181
Abstract: A first contact arm on the minute shaft of a clockwork switches, once every 0 minutes, the mode of energization of an electronic gating circuit with two sections in the inputs of an inverting anticoincidence (NOXOR) gate working into a setting input of a flip-flop which controls the driving circuit of a striking mechanism, each section having two parallel branches of relatively inverting character and with a relative phase delay whereby any switchover results in a brief de-energization of that setting input and thus in a setting of the flip-flop. A pulse generator, included in or energized by the driving circuit, works into a stepping input of a binary pulse counter provided with four output leads whose pattern of energization represents the numerical values from 1 through 12.

  • Patent number: 4148185
Abstract: A gas turbine power generating system comprising, in the preferred embodiment, three gas turbine engines in series-connected flow communication employing high pressure hydrogen and oxygen as the fuel. Pre-heated pressurized steam (or a steam and water mixture) is fed to the initial gas turbine combustor for combustion coolant. Steam, consisting of the products of combustion plus the vaporized coolant, is exhausted from the first turbine into the combustor of the next turbine for re-heating via the combustion therein of the high pressure hydrogen and oxygen. The exhaust steam from the intermediate turbine is in turn re-heated in the combustor of the final turbine. The final exhaust steam is then passed through a recuperative heat exchanger to pre-heat the pressurized cooling water so that, when injected into the first combustor, it is vaporized prior to entering the first turbine.

Abstract: First and second tractor assemblies apply a preset tension to incremental lengths of fiber which moves continuously through the apparatus. The apparatus performs the functions of fiber pulling and non-destructive testing of all of the fiber. Each tractor assembly includes a tractor wheel and belt wheels. A belt extends around the belt wheels and engages the tractor wheel in an arc. The fiber passes between the belt and the tractor wheel in this arc. The second tractor assembly has a constant torque drive with an unloaded speed which is faster than that of the first tractor assembly. The second tractor assembly pulls the fiber thereby reducing the speed by causing the constant torque device to overload and slip.

  • Patent number: 4148220
Abstract: A thermistor temperature sensing system includes a conventional comparator having a constant reference threshold voltage and a linearized thermistor sensor which in combination detect a limited range of desirable temperatures. A means is also disclosed for extending the linearization of the thermistor in a piecewise manner at at least one temperature extreme where linearity typically severely deteriorates. In a thermistor temperature sensing system, linearization of thermistor characteristics with respect to at least one temperature within the temperature extreme is achieved by utilizing circuitry which makes the threshold voltage of the conventional comparator a function of the setting of a potentiometer for a desired temperature within the temperature extreme to be sensed by a thermistor sensor.

  • Patent number: 4148223
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring the surface temperature of a glass ampul which allows for the temperature to be determined as a function of time. The apparatus utilized is a thermocouple with the lead wires directly secured to the inside or outside surface of the glass ampul. Contact is assured by utilizing a high-temperature-resistive cement to secure the measuring function to the glass surface. To assure accurate temperature measurement, the lead wires are of a thin type and are uninsulated. The thermocouple wires opposite their junction are secured to a connector and ultimately to a thermocouple amplifier. If desired, a recorder is operatively connected to the amplifier. The temperature measuring apparatus allows for a constant temperature reading as the ampul is sterilized in a sterilizer and thus assures that complete sterilization is effected.

  • Patent number: 4148224
Abstract: This box type belt adjuster includes a box open at least at one end so as to form a passage therein for a belt or other webbing around a cam which latter is supported on a transverse shaft in the box. A snap-on cap covers the inner end of the passage and encloses a space for a yoke engaging the cam for turning it in the passage. The height of the passage and the distance between the risers of the cam are so related that when the cam is turned to move the risers toward the opposite top and bottom of the passage the clearance is slightly less than the thickness of the belt or webbing whereby when the cam is so turned the belt is jammed between the top and bottom of the passage and the risers of the cam. A manipulating extension extends from the lever to the outside of the cap for turning the cam in a direction to increase the clearance between the risers and the respective sides of the passage.
