  • Patent number: 4173109
Abstract: An animal halter is integrally formed from a single length of line, having all segments of the halter defined by a preordained sequence of nonslip knots to join lengths of the line into the particular configuration of the halter. Nonslip knots eliminate the need for stitching or external hardware to join the various segments of line together to achieve the desired configuration for the halter, reducing the wear occurring at such junction points when the halter is under stress. Nose band and neck band segments have double lengths of line to give the halter additional strength. A double looped segment is formed together with the chin piece to provide for the attachment of a lead to enable the halter to be used as a hackamore.

  • Patent number: 4173113
Abstract: The cable includes continuous glass filaments which are helically plied in rovings at a constant helical angle from cable center to outer surface and bonded together in elastomeric material. When heated, thermal elongation of the filaments is opposed by simultaneous radially directed thermal volumetric expansion of the elastomeric material. Thus, with respect to overall cable length, thermal elongation of the cable is opposed by a simultaneous increase in cable cross sectional area such that thermal elongation effects are controllable, dependent upon the thermal expansion properties of the filament and elastomeric materials used, by controlling the helical angle at which the filaments are plied to obtain either expanding, contracting or constant length cables, as desired. Thermal contraction effects produced by cooling the cable also are controllable by controlling the helical angle.

Abstract: A pressure sensing device having a separator diaphragm through which pressure is transmitted from a working fluid to a liquid within a first part of the device and a transducer for measuring the pressure of the liquid or the difference between the pressure of the liquid and the pressure of an external fluid. A pressure overload diaphragm comprises a dished plate which forms part of a side wall of the first part of the device and has an inner section of the plate extending inwardly of that part. The overload diaphragm is inflexible or substantially inflexible over a working range of differential pressures applied thereto but the inner section thereof moves outwardly of the first part of the device if the differential pressure exceeds a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4173152
Abstract: A continuously variable speed converter is provided wherein a plurality of balls are interposed between a pair of friction discs for transmitting rotation of an input shaft to an output shaft connected with a fluid pump. A speed change mechanism is arranged to tilt the rotational axis of each of the balls in each plane, including the axis of the input shaft, to thereby change the output/input speed ratio. Disposed within a main housing carrying the input and output shafts is the fluid pump, which also serves as a pressuring means responsive to fluid delivered by itself so as to apply to the output shaft a thrust force corresponding to the pressure of the fluid, so that efficient power transmission without slippage may be provided between the friction discs and the balls.

  • Patent number: 4173153
Abstract: The disclosed friction disc transmission includes a conventional drive disc rotatable about a vertical shaft and a vertical friction disc engaging the top horizontal face of the drive disc to be driven about a horizontal axis. The friction disc is rotatably supported on a pivot frame having a sprocket drive connected to a sprocket on the wheel axle. The vertical drive disc shaft is mounted on a transversely swingable support for movement of the drive disc relative to the driven friction disc and control of the rotational speed and direction of the driven disc. The support includes a control plate having camming surfaces which lift the driven disc over the center neutral axis of the drive disc, reducing wear of the driven disc when the transmission is in neutral. The control also includes a clutch-brake mechanism independent of the control plate including a lever connected to a rotatable link means.
