Abstract: A carnation plant named Ace High which is an X-radiation induced color mutation from the commercial cultivar Ace, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,667. The singular distinguishing trait of Ace High is the extent, distribution and intensity of the color pattern comprised of variegated light orange and scarlet red.

Abstract: An electrically driven automatic film advance camera with automatic transition to rewind without external actuation is described. Film advance after each exposure occurs automatically after release of the shutter actuating button by means of an integral electric drive motor preferably contained within the film take-up spool. The end of film condition during film advance is signalled by a sudden onset in film tension, which actuates a switching system to reverse motor drive polarity and power the motor until the film is completely rewound into the cassette, whereupon motor actuation ceases. A take-up spool gear drive train remains fully engaged at all times. During the rewind operation both the take-up spool and the drive spool are driven simultaneously by the drive motor to facilitate film disengagement. A film engaging sprocket serves to govern film advance for framing purposes, the sprocket being principally in an idling state throughout the film advance operation.

Abstract: The invention is a locking device for locking circuit cards in zero-insertion force card edge connectors of the type having a vertically moving upper housing. More particularly, the locking device includes two pairs of pivotally mounted arms which are cammed inwardly from each side of the card. The upper nose-shaped ends of the arms enter holes in the card so that the card cannot be removed without actuating the camming mechanism.

Abstract: A stabilized life raft utilizing a fluid filled depending buoy chamber for overall stabilization and including as improved features thereon a peripheral skirt chamber which fills with the raft supporting fluid upon deployment of the raft and serves as a temporary stabilizer while the buoy chamber becomes filled. The buoy chamber includes baffles to impede the flow of the stabilizing fluid from one portion of the chamber to another in the event of a sudden weight shift within the raft. An improved valve permits a more rapid inward flow of fluid upon deployment of the raft and yet prevents outward flow in instances where the buoyant raft is suddenly thrust upwardly by elements such as waves. The raft, because of the particular placement of the various structural elements in conjunction with the placement of the survival gear and inflation system, is automatically self-righting.

Abstract: A coated metal anode for the electrolytic recovery of metals is disclosed, whereby the working surface of this anode is represented by rods 4 which are arranged in a plane in spaced, parallel relationship to each other and which are electrically connected to a current supply rail 3.To provide a coated metal anode of the identified type, which ensures an operation with acceptable current density and which permits with a simple constructive assembly an energy saving deposit of metal with high purity on the oppositely disposed cathode, the total surface F.sub.A of the rods 4 and the surface F.sub.p assumed by the total arrangement of the rods 4 fulfills the relationship 6.gtoreq.F.sub.A :F.sub.p .gtoreq.2.

Abstract: In a process for mixing a gas and a liquid in an apparatus having an axial flow down-pumping impeller located in a draft tube and preceded by a first baffle wherein a vortex and turbulence are created and gas is drawn into the vortex, the improvement comprising providing liquid velocity of at least one foot per second, increasing the turbulence, providing a second baffle below the impeller, and a high shear zone between impeller and the second baffle.

Abstract: Instrumentation and procedures for detecting geological anomalies occurring in layered coal formations. The instrumentation comprises a medium frequency continuous wave narrowband FM transmitter and receiver pair. Two instrument configurations are disclosed with one being a portable instrument for use with an existing mined area and another being a downhole instrument for insertion into boreholes in unmined areas. Survey procedures are provided to detect anomolies through signal attenuation, path attenuation and signal phase shift. Continuity measurements provide data to determine the existance of anomalies. Tomographic techniques are employed to provide a visual image of the anomaly. Computer aided reconstruction techniques provide such visual images from the generated data.

Abstract: Apparatus for investigating subsurface earth formations traversed by a borehole comprising a system of electrodes consisting of a central electrode A.sub.0 and four pairs of electrodes M.sub.1 -M'.sub.1, M.sub.2 -M'.sub.2, A.sub.1 -A'.sub.1, A.sub.2 -A'.sub.2 respectively short-circuited and aligned symmetrically on both sides of the electrode A.sub.0.This apparatus comprises arrangements which, for a frequency .function..sub.2, establish a potential gradient between electrodes A.sub.1 -A'.sub.1 and A.sub.2 -A'.sub.2. A source of alternating current of frequency .function..sub.1 is connected between the electrodes A.sub.1 -A'.sub.1 and A.sub.2 -A'.sub.2 and a source of alternating current of frequency .function..sub.2 between a surface electrode B and electrodes A.sub.2 -A'.sub.2. The potential difference between electrodes M.sub.1 -M.sub.2 and M'.sub.1 -M'.sub.2 is maintained substantially at zero by circulating a current between electrodes A.sub.1 -A'.sub.1 and electrode A.sub.0.

Abstract: A nursing mother's garment comprised of a shoulder apparatus known as a shoulder bib and an attachable blanket-type draping known hereafter as a blanket, which provides concealment of the wearer's upper body and the baby's head and upper body, while providing maximum fresh air flow to the baby and viewing of the nursing process by the mother only. For nursing, the shoulder bib is placed on the wearer's shoulder with the blanket attached to it by a plurality of fasteners. The blanket attaches to the lower edge of the front portion of the shoulder bib and extends from directly above the wearer's breast downwardly past the wearer's waistline and laterally from beyond the wearer's arm nearest the shoulder bib across the wearer's breast beyond her mid-chest. The blanket forms a lightweight, loose-fitting, drape across the wearer's front torso which permits a child to nurse in complete comfort, while concealing the mother's breast.

Abstract: This invention is made up of three parts, a coat, sleeves and a skirt. The sleeves have two sticker fastenings around them able to stick together to keep the sleeves stable when folded up short. The skirt is rolled up and hidden at the lowest part of the coat with a horizontally set zipper when it is not needed and can be rolled down with the zipper opened and fastened together at its front with sticker fastenings if necessary.

Abstract: A hunting glove includes an elastic thick covering formed on a palm piece of a mitten and cut with a U-shaped opening on the covering to form an U-shaped lid normally closing the U-shaped opening, and a soft forefinger sheath formed on a lining of the mitten telescopically protruding through the U-shaped opening for triggering a gun or retracting through the U-shaped opening for concealing the forefinger sheath inside the mitten for cold-weather proof.

Abstract: A headband and eyeglasses combination comprises a headband element which is receivable on the head of a wearer and has an open pocket formed therein, an eyepiece which is receivable in the pocket and a mounting assembly for mounting the eyepiece on the headband element. The eyepiece is mounted on the headband element so that it is alternatively positionable in a retracted first position wherein it is received in the pocket for use of the device as a conventional headband or an operative second position wherein it extends from the headband element for use of the device as a headband and eyeglass combination.

Abstract: A portable toilet with a movable spout via which accumulated waste contents are dumped at a suitable sanitary disposal station. The portable toilet has separably mounted seat and holding tank sections which are separated for dumping. The spout is rotatably mounted in an aperture in the top wall of the holding tank and is swung from its stored position to a discharge position extending away from the holding tank and the one dumping the tank. A vent valve is also provided in the top wall of the holding tank and it is manually operated by the person dumping the holding tank so as to vent the head space during dumping, and a waste inlet valve on the tank is locked in its closed position during dumping by an auto lock actuating handle which is located adjacent the vent valve and provides a convenient holding handle for the tank during dumping.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a cover assembly to conceal the anchor bolt assembly housed in an opening in a vertical wall of a sanitary fixture. A novel clip, which is mounted to the anchor bolt, includes latching means to mount the cover plate over the opening.

Abstract: An invalid hoist has a lifting arm, a sling hanger support mounted to turn about a rigid vertical bearing axis at the outer end of the arm and a sling hanger which is a unitary construction pivotable about a horizontal axis relative to the sling hanger support. The sling hanger presents spaced sling attachment points on both sides of the horizontal axis for connection of one pair of sling attachments to one side of the horizontal axis and for connection of a second pair of sling attachments to the opposite side of the horizontal axis. Thus the disposition of a sling-suspended invalid can be changed, while suspended on the hoist, by pivotal movement of the sling hanger about the horizontal axis.

Abstract: A baby changing mat comprising a central padded body with a raised sill extending about a majority of the edge of the body and a pair of straps for holding a baby to the mat. The mat is formed from a flexible material and has at least one centrally located transverse stabilizing member to which the straps may be anchored. Extra padding may be provided for the baby's head.

Abstract: A travel pillow has a first pneumatic pillow base or enclosure adapted to fit within a pillowcase. The pillowcase has an invertable pocket formed in one wall thereof with a slide fastener closing the opening in the wall. The invertable pocket is such as to allow the pillowcase to be stuffed therein and the deflated pneumatic enclosure to be folded and stowed within the so-formed envelope. The slide fastener can then be closed containing both the pneumatic enclosure and the pillowcase.

Abstract: A waterbed and holder assembly for use therewith wherein the holder assembly comprises a U-shaped base member for being secured to the waterbed's frame, an expandable, resilient member (e.g., elastic fabric material) for being secured at one end to an article of the waterbed's bedclothing (e.g., sheet) and for being releasably secured at the other end to the U-shaped base member, a first retention means comprising cooperating adhesive materials for providing the resilient member's releasable securement, and a second retention means (e.g., removable cover) for engaging the resilient member to retain it against the base member. Positioning and securement of the article of bedclothing in an expeditious manner is thus provided.

Abstract: A mattress guard is disclosed for use in a convertible sofa bed having an air inflatable mattress supported on the mattress support of a folding bed mechanism frame. The mattress guard includes a pair of flexible guard members adapted to be placed on opposed edges of the mattress, elastic straps resiliently securing the guard members together along the top surface of the mattress and attachment devices for securing the guard members to the mattress support below the mattress. The guard members hold the bedding for the mattress securely against the mattress and prevent it from becoming entrapped in the folding mechanism when the bed is folded. In addition the mattress, will be compressed when air is released therefrom prior to folding of the sofa bed to space its edges away from the mechanism.

Abstract: An "L" shaped device having a fabric clamping means near the top of its vertical leg and inserted basewise between a waterbed mattress and its horizontal support platform. A sheet placed over a waterbed mattress may be secured by the clamping means (of a plurality) of such devices and thereby secured to the mattress surface by application of the invention.

Abstract: The neonatal blanket of this invention provides a generally elongated hemispheroidal, self-supporting thermal barrier for use with neonatal infants on open radiant warmer beds or convection-warmed infant incubators. The blanket can be formed from a single sheet of flexible clear plastic vinyl of similar material, shaped to provide a concave central cavity of a size to generally accomodate a neonatal infant, and having a relatively narrow, flat edge portion that extends around the blanket's perimeter. In use, the blanket is placed completely over the infant, so that its inner surface is close to but does not contact the infant's skin, and the flat edge portion both helps to support the blanket and provide an effective and efficient seal with the bedding material below. Thus, the blanket captures a volume of dead air space around the infant, which helps to reduce convective air currents within the infant's thermal microenvironment.

Abstract: A ramp for stairways is constructed from a plurality of separate right triangular modules which individually nest in the recesses of the stairway formed by the step treads and risers. The several modules are securely releasably interconnected on opposite sides thereof by tethered locking pins received by registering locking apertures of male and female connector elements. The continuous stairway ramp formed by two parallel groups of modules is laterally adjustable through connector slides on the riser walls of the modules. Two parallel ramp trackways are formed having opposite side upstanding lips and the surfaces of the trackways are covered with a grooved rubber matting to facilitate the passage of hand trucks and wheelchairs smoothly along the ramp.

Abstract: A cleaning device, which also has massaging capabilities, and which includes a housing with a drive motor or water driven turbine in it, a pair of brushes or generally cylindrical sponge pads which are on opposite ends of a shaft, and a transmission connecting the shaft to the drive motor or turbine. The shaft is in a vertical tube which forms the `cross-bar` of a T-shaped structure, a further tube forming the `upright` of the T-shaped structure and extending horizontally from the housing. The transmission is in this further tube. Each cleaning pad can be ribbed, the ribs of the two pads being out of alignment. In the preferred form the device is a bathroom fitting.

Abstract: A disposable dental cleaning device that combines the portability and utility features of a toothpick with the cleaning ability of a brush is provided. A linear member of a semi-resilient material has a brush attached to one end and may be provided with a conventional point or rounded tip at the opposite end. A section of reduced thickness or a neck is formed in a portion of the linear member adjacent the attached brush enabling the brush to bend at an angle with respect to the linear member to enhance the cleaning ability of the appliance.

Abstract: A flexible brush block is moved along a shape-retaining S-shaped handle whose curved end regions of opposite curvature are responsible for bending the flexible block and bristles that are supported thereon into either a generally concave or a convex configuration.

Abstract: A device for sweeping floors or the like, which device comprises a stick attached to a frame-part which has been equipped with a detachable cleaning cloth for said sweeping. In addition the frame-part includes at least two attachment spikes for attaching the cleaning cloth to the cleaning device by punching the cloth to the spikes.

Abstract: An ice scraper for vehicle windshields and windows having a scraper blade that is deformable to the curvature of the glass. The scraper blade is mounted on a handle structure between which a flexible rubber or similar material is positioned. The scraper blade is provided with one or more relief openings which permit the blade of the scraper to deform upon pressure being applied to the handle by the user. The deformable plastic blade attains greater efficiency of contact between the windshield and the blade for approved results.

Abstract: A brake drum encapsulator includes a wire frame in a generally cylindrical shape with a cover surrounding the frame and having a closed end and an open end. The brake drum assembly is received in the open end of the cover which is then closed about the brake drum and evacuated. The cover is made of a material which is light weight, flexible, transparent and gas impermeable to give the operator full visibility to the interior. The cover has a pair of gloves integrally formed in it to permit the operator to have access to the interior. A hand-operated air gun for cleaning the brake drums is also attached to the closed end of the cover. The closed end of the cover preferrably has a frustoconical portion which allows the operator to move his hands and the air gun back and forth as well as laterally within the encapsulator for servicing the brake drum.

Abstract: The mounting plate which is mountable on a furniture body and on which the hinge arm of a furniture hinge is mounted is comprised of two parts, namely an upper part and a base plate which is mountable on the furniture body. The base plate engages in the center area in a recess (25) extending transversely to the longitudinal axis of the upper part and is displaceably and lockably mounted therein. The base plate is provided with a threaded bore into which the threaded shaft of a mounting screw is screwed in so as to lock the upper part with respect to the base plate. The threaded shaft is guided through a slotted hole in the upper part, so that the upper part is transversely adjustable with respect to its longitudinal axis when the screw is released.

Abstract: Apparatus for portioning, shaping and dispensing a plurality of molded, spherically shaped meatballs includes a food product entry area communicating with a compression chamber for compression and movement of the food product into a positioning area wherein it is given a rod-like shape and moved to a shaping area wherein it is given a spherical shape and dispensed into a suitable receiving means.

Abstract: In a device for delivering pasty stuffing in portions a vane rotor is provided in the outlet channel of conveying means charging the stuffing material with pressure, which rotor extends through the outlet channel and is driven by a positioning drive. The vane rotor thus is effective as a sealing element with regard to the stuffing material remaining under overpressure without changing the cross-section of the outlet channel, in a further function as a device for proportioning the mass of the stuffing material, which device is controllable over the angle of rotation, and finally, in the case of an activation in an opposite direction, as conveying means for compensating the expansion of the stuffing mass which occurs after the filling due to the pre-compression.

Abstract: A method of operating a bale opener, including the steps of propelling a carriage of the bale opener in a path of travel to execute consecutive back and forth passes in a generally horizontal direction along and between two parallel fiber bale rows having opposite end faces defining a length boundary for each bale row; removing, during each pass, fiber tufts from the top of the fiber bales of one of the rows by an opening device supported laterally by a tower mounted on the carriage; and turning, upon reaching the end of each pass, the tower through 180.degree. about a generally vertical axis for swinging the opening device through 180.degree. from above an end zone of one bale row to above an adjacent end zone of the other bale row such that the opening device, during its swinging motion, remains substantially in its entirety within the end boundary of at least one of the bale rows.
