  • Patent number: 4752986
Abstract: According to the preferred form of the invention, a pair of thin wheels is rotatably mounted in the bottom of the body of a caster or other load supporting wheeled device in a bilaterally symmetrical array. Each of the wheels has a downwardly facing outer terrain-engaging surface in the general form of a frustocone, and an upwardly facing inner annular bearing surface which is opposed by a complementary annular bearing surface on the bottom of the body. Preferably one or more antifriction washers are interposed between the wheel and body bearing surfaces. This arrangement provides large bearing surface areas which are located directly above the lowermost apex of the frustoconical terrain-engaging surface so that direct vertical loading is applied through the bearing surfaces to the terrain-engaging footprint of each wheel, thereby avoiding cantilever action, avoiding any need for rollable bearings, and permitting the wheels to be very thin and of extremely low profile.

  • Patent number: 4752988
Abstract: A sanitary process for efficiently extracting crab meat substantially automatically is disclosed. Live crabs are cooked and debacked in a conventional manner. The debacked crab bodies are then prepared for centrifugally extraction of the meat by advancing the individual bodies serially along a processing line by a conveying means. The processing line trims the claws and legs from the crab and then removes the gills and other inedible materials by brushing in a water jet. The clean crab body is then longitudinally sliced into two half sections in a manner that removes the center partition of the crab body and exposes the meat conveying cavities. The individual half sections are then placed in a centrifugal machine which restrains the complete half shell by an openwork barrier as the meat is separated from the shell by centrifugal forces. The separated meat passes through the openwork barrier and is collected by individual meat receptacles located radially outward from the openwork barrier.

  • Patent number: 4752993
Abstract: A fastener and method of attachment of such fastener to sheet material to provide attachment of a tubular fastener to the sheet material by extruding, without severing, portions of the sheet material completely through openings on the base portion of the fastener. In one embodiment of the invention, the extruded material is clinched on the top surface of the base portion by clinch members integrally formed with the base portion. The fastener is internally threaded, lightweight and preferably heat-treated prior to attachment to the sheet material to provide fastener strength equivalent to or greater than that of much heavier nuts. Two types of such fasteners may be attached by a method which opens up a hole in the sheet material of a larger diameter than the major diameter of the threads in the fasteners while simultaneously clinching the fastener in place. This eliminates the need to use thread-cutting bolts.

  • Patent number: 4752997
Abstract: A procedure for drying cables having multiple pairs of insulated wires therein by using a compound comprising a mixture of polymer granules and granules of a lubricating and bond-breaking substance. The polymer granules are swellable and with respect to water and do not electrochemically heat in the presence of water. They encapsulate the water leaving the insulation material unaffected except for being dried. The principal polymer used is a salts of carboxylate. Further, a technique is disclosed for coating or insulation grafting a metallic cationic wire wherein the wire is placed in water in the presence of salts of carboxylate or other appropriate polymers having anionic groups together with a cationic substance, such as lithium. A dc current is then introduced to establish the wires as an anode. By electrolysis action there is established a hydrophobic coating having a polymer-anionic-to-metal-cationic bond with the metal.

  • Patent number: 4752999
Abstract: A spherical transformer and process for forming same is set forth. Hollow, hemispherical elements are rotated to enable a cooperating cutting tool to impart a helical impression therein. An adhesive is sprayed into the interiors of both hemispheres and thereafter powdered metal, such as stainless steel, is directed thereon to form a sheet-like core that when both hemispheres are joined to provide an uninterrupted metal core with said hemisphere. A primary winding is inserted into the aforenoted grooves about one hemisphere and a secondary winding is positioned into the helically cut grooves in said second hemisphere. The thusly formed transformer is positioned on a base for a stability thereof.

  • Patent number: 4753000
Abstract: A switch module includes a base and an array of one or more switches spaced adjacent to one another on the base. Each switch includes a fixed contact as well as a moving contact and supporting arm therefor. All of the switches in the array are formed from a single planar conductive blank composed of a closed frame and first and second sets of opposed elongated cantilevered panels extending from opposite sides of the frame, one set of panels forming the stationary contacts and the other set of panels forming the moving contacts and supporting arms therefor. The blank is deformed to move all of the corresponding stationary and moving contacts into overlapping relation and to give bias to all of the contact arms so that they urge the associated moving contacts into or out of engagement with the corresponding fixed contacts.
