  • Patent number: 4763452
Abstract: A process and a system for applying insulation and water sealing to roofs such as house trailers includes a sealing strip that fastens completely around the upper wall. This strip seals the edges of successive layers of a first waterproof membrane, a layer of thermal insulation and a second waterproof membrane. The combination provides a layer of thermal insulation completely enclosed in waterproof membranes. This maintains the effectiveness of the insulation by preventing the entry of moisture. The system permits use of readily available, inexpensive materials. The system may be applied by the owner because it requires no special tools or skills.

  • Patent number: 4763456
Abstract: An anchor and stress plate assembly adapted to secure an insulation layer to the deck of a roof without penetrating the lower surface of the deck which is formed either of relatively soft or hard decking material. The anchor is provided with a flanged head and a shank whose leading section takes the form of an auger screw having a root which tapers toward the tip and a threading about the root whose crests are of approximately uniform diameter. When the anchor is turned into soft decking material, the tapered root of the auger screw then acts to pack this material into a dense mass in the region surrounding the screw to enhance the holding power of the anchor. In hard decking material, a hole must first be drilled therein to receive the auger screw whose root when the anchor is turned in fits within the hole and whose crests then cut a thread in the hole wall to securely retain the anchor.

  • Patent number: 4763457
Abstract: A barrier is constructed from a plurality of cell-like elements interconnected to form a rigid barrier under normal circumstances. The linkages between cells provides a friction-brake force which is exceeded upon application of a traumatic force such as a bomb blast. The linkages includes slots in each cell connecting adjacent cells with prestressed nuts and bolts to permit sliding relative movement between adjacent cells after a predetermined threshold force has been exceeded. A transverse reinforcing rod, having a series of plates along its length, passes through adjacent cells. The plates act as a viscous damper as they move through a filler material within the cells while the rod adds strength. The cells may be coated with a dry lubricant to control the static coefficient of friction. The ability of the cells to move protects the barrier from structural failure by dissipating the blast forces through the frictional work required to displace the cells.

  • Patent number: 4763474
Abstract: A pneumatic control system for the variable area turbine inlet of a turbocharger of an internal combustion engine. The variable turbine inlet is actuated by a pneumatic actuator having a first connection to compressor boost pressure and a second connection to turbine inlet pressure. • Patent number: 4763480
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing a thermodynamic cycle with preheating, involves expanding a gaseous working fluid to a medium pressure to transform its energy into usable form. The expanded gaseous working fluid is split into two different streams. One stream is further expanded to a spent low pressure level to produce further usable energy. This stream is then condensed. The other of the two streams is used to preheat the condensed stream and is mixed with the condensed stream at a point upstream of the point of preheating. This decreases the irreversibilities in the preheating process and enables greater efficiencies to be achieved.

  • Patent number: 4763481
Abstract: A combustor for a gas turbine engine. The combustor employs an array of fuel injectors arranged across and in the mouth plane of the combustor flame tube. Each injector has a baffle plate through which the injector nozzle projects, the baffle plate having axial holes for atomization air to intercept and atomize radial fuel jets from the injector nozzle. Cooling of the flame tube is performed by full coverage impingement and effusion without disturbing the cooling film by entry and penetration of transverse air jets. Flame stabilization is achieved under all required operating conditions by the radial-fuel/axial-air atomization in conjunction with the baffle plates. Comprehensive combustion mixing and dilution is achieved by the uniformly distributed supply of up to 90% of the total air supplied to the combustor around and through the baffle plates.

  • Patent number: 4763482
Abstract: A gas turbine engine has an annular combustor structure which includes a plurality of annularly displaced combustion zones. A fuel nozzle is positioned in each combustion zone for supplying fuel thereto. A swirler is supported on each of the fuel nozzles and includes a plurality of angularly-directed passages for causing a swirling action of the air entering the combustion chamber through the nozzles. The swirlers are associated in pairs, each of the swirlers of each pair including a tab extending radially outwardly. When air is supplied through the angularly-directed passages, the swirlers are urged in a direction which brings the tabs of each pair into engagement with each other and thereby limits further rotational movement of the swirlers.

  • Patent number: 4763489
Abstract: A plurality of structures, both alike and disalike, selectively and collectively comprising modular jewelry, may be arranged in various configurations as earrings, a pendant, a bracelet, necklace, belt, or the like. Such modular jewelry elements may be engaged and disengaged with one another without any substantial bending or flexing of attachment features thereof, while still providing a substantial freedom of movement for adjacent interconnected modular jewelry elements. Such modular jewelry is both functional and aesthetically acceptable. The disclosed structure shields from view the modularity of the jewelry, while providing modular elements which are readily reconfigured as desired but which do not become readily disassembled when not desired.

  • Patent number: 4763490
Abstract: A ring including a pair of semi-circular sections. The sections are pivotally connected to each other so that they can be pivoted apart to open the ring. The ring is secured together via latch means. One section of the ring is arcuate in shape and has an arcuate extending member projecting therefrom and adapted to enter and move through a mating recess formed in the other section. A primary locking spring is connected to the extending member and includes a portion adapted to engage a wall portion in the recess of the other section to lock the two sections together. An aperture is provided in the recess to enable the spring to disengaged, via the insertion of a sharply pointed instrument therethrough, thereby enabling the two sections to pivot outward with respect to each other to partially open the ring.

  • Patent number: 4763498
Abstract: The invention relates to a central locking installation having individual operating devices in each of which a push rod is longitudinally displaceable by means of a drive arrangement in the direction of a guide part formed by the housing of the operating device, while inhibitor means are provided for the inhibition of the displaceability of the push rod in one region of its displacement path. Thus without appreciable manufacturing expense it is achieved in the simplest manner that operating devices thus equipped can also be used at those locking points of a motor vehicle where merely in the manual pressing shut of this locking point a slight displacement of the push rod could occur which can result in unintended tripping of the microswitch and thus central locking of all locking points.
