  • Patent number: 5022129
Abstract: Disclosed is a crankshaft forming apparatus and method which has forming heads for forming throw sections at any angle 360.degree. about the rotational axis of the crankshaft and orienting the full length of the throw sections of the crankshaft. The throws are checked for parallelism to the rotational axis of the crankshaft. By turning suitable actuators such as screws, the forming heads are pivoted about a vertical and/or horizontal axis to adjust the throw formation relative to the longitudinal axis. In this manner, each forming head may be adjusted in position until all of the respective throws being formed are parallel to the rotational axis of the crankshaft. Also provided is a toggle mechanism which clamps tightly a rod being formed and opens and closes the clamping units for insertion and removal of the rod.

  • Patent number: 5022130
Abstract: In a process of producing crystal resonators in which the direction and magnitude of the gamma vector is substantially the same for each resonator, a method of altering the resonator during the process to change the resonator mass, shape, or electrode placement so as to reduce the gamma vector magnitude of each crystal. This alteration may be done by adding mass, removing mass, or both adding and removing mass, or by positioning the electrodes to selectively position the electric field in the crystal, all in order to move the location of the active region of vibration and thereby reduce the gamma vector.

  • Patent number: 5022131
Abstract: A tool bit selection device as an accessory for a hand held commercial drill motor is disclosed. The selection device is in the form of a chambered cylinder that is supported on the face of the drill motor. The chambers of the cylinder hold individual tool bits that are adapted to be placed on the driving end of a drive spindle of the drill motor. The support and alignment of the selection device on the drill motor permits the compliance of the tool bit and the drive spindle in pitch, yaw, roll and radial offset. The selection device merely stores and positions the tool bits and does not provide bearing support of the tool bit when in working position.

  • Patent number: 5022137
Abstract: A bar clamp, which is operable with one hand, includes a fixed jaw and a movable jaw. The movable jaw connects at one end to a movable slide bar. One-way drive means, by operation of a trigger handle grip, releasably engages the slide bar and advances the movable jaw toward the fixed jaw. Return motion of the movable jaw is accomplished manually when the one-way drive means is disengaged. A braking lever, biased to bind against the slide bar, prevents reverse motion of the movable jaw except when disengaged from the slide bar. The trigger handle advances the slide bar by driving a second lever which binds against a slide bar surface. The second lever returns by spring force to its original position after each stroke of the trigger handle.

  • Patent number: 5022140
Abstract: In a magnetic head a metal magnetic layer and a non-magnetic layer are sequentially formed on a pair of magnetic cores in which track widths are formed by a predetermined pitch. The metal magnetic layer and the non-magnetic layer formed outside the track widths are removed while leaving the track widths formed in said magnetic cores, thereby forming a regulation groove. The track widths of one magnetic core from which the metal magnetic layer and the non-magnetic layer are removed are caused to oppose those of the other magnetic core. Glass as an adhesive is filled in the regulation groove and melted to bond the magnetic cores so that a gap having the metal magnetic layer is formed. The pair of magnetic cores bonded to form the gap therebetween are cut by a predetermined pitch to form a magnetic head.

  • Patent number: 5022142
Abstract: An apparatus for loading cylindrical fuel pellets into tubular fuel rods includes pellet segregation means for detecting and segregating an undersized pellet prior to its entry into a fuel rod. The segregation means includes a pair of laterally separated guide rails adapted to support the lateral side edges of the advancing pellets, and such that a pellet of undersized diameter will drop to a level below that of the properly sized pellets. A lateral shoulder is positioned at the downstream end of the guide rails for engaging and holding any dropped pellet so that it cannot advance into the fuel rod. Also, a pellet deflecting plate is positioned at the upstream end of the guide rails, to interrupt the contact between adjacent pellets and thus assure that an undersized pellet is not carried along the guide rails by the adjacent pellets.

  • Patent number: 5022167
Abstract: An apparatus for drying a photosensitive material in the form of a web is provided wherein a slender box-shaped housing defines an interior space having a rectangular slit-shaped transverse cross section in which its thickness dimension is substantially smaller than its transverse dimension. A fan is connected to the housing through a nozzle for blowing drying air into the interior space to dry the photosensitive web while the web is transferred through the interior space in a longitudinal direction. The difference in relative humidity between upstream and downstream air flows in the interior space at the beginning and the end of drying is controlled to at least 30% RH.

  • Patent number: 5022169
Abstract: An apparatus for ironing laundry comprising at least one semi-circular open dished bed (1), provided with a double wall with feed (5) and outlet (6) opening for passage of a heating medium, such as steam, and a roll (2) rotatably driven in each dished bed (1), wherein the outlet opening (6) of a dished bed (1) is placed in direct connection to the feed opening (5) of the following dished bed (1). The apparatus requires a high flowspeed of heating medium thereby preventing eventual condensation of the heat medium in the flow ducts in the dished bed wall, and also preventing an uneven temperature distribution in the inner wall of the dished bed.

  • Patent number: 5022170
Abstract: A pad for covering a work surface comprising a thin transparent cover over a base layer. A portions of the cover is secured to the base layer so that the balance of the cover is liftable upwardly therefrom to receive and retain between the cover and the base layer sheet materials bearing visual information of utility to a user. The information is then visible to the user through the transparent cover. Alternatively, the cover may be attached to the base layer so as to produce therebetween a pouch opening at an edge of the pad to receive such sheet materials. The top surface of the cover can optionally be textured to provide a substitute work surface upon which to write or operate a computer mouse. The bottom surface of the base pad is textured to prevent slipping of the device on the work surface.

  • Patent number: 5022171
Abstract: This graphic character matrix display assembly has a support providing a nonreflecting background for a multiplicity of display units arranged for cooperatively displaying the character. Each of the display units comprises a flat display disk having opposite sides. An electromagnet rotates the disk between display position and reversed position. A light source at each disk projects a light beam through a peripheral cutout in the disk when the disk is in display position. The light beam also projects an outline of the disk by backlighting. The periphery of the disk blocks the light beam when the disk is in reversed position. The light source for each disk may be an incandescent lamp, emitting diodes or the end of a light pipe.

  • Patent number: 5022172
Abstract: An automatic vending machine, or a slot machine, has a display plate provided at the rear wall of a sample room which is covered by a transparent window panel fitted in a front door of the machine. A plurality of vertically elongate display strips arranged side by side at desired intervals adjacent to the display plate to be rotatable about their own axes. The front or rear faces of these display strips can cooperate with each other to produce associated composite figures, which fully covers the display plate when the display strips rotate together at the same time whereby either the front or rear faces of the display strips take their positions substantially parallel to the display plate. Consequently, the composite display figures formed by the front and rear faces of the display strips can be seen from the front of the machine.
