  • Patent number: 5408757
Abstract: A vertical body member has a slot leading down from the upper end thereof for receiving and supporting a piece of siding to be installed. The slot has a depth that determines the overlap of a piece of siding and is defined at the rear by a wall terminating in its upper end in a rearwardly turned hook portion that can hook over the top edge of an installed piece of siding for supporting the body member and a piece of siding to be installed. The hook portion has a selected rigidity such that it will support a piece of siding that is being installed but also has a resilience that allows it to straighten out when the body member is pulled forcefully downwardly whereby the rear wall and hook portion can be slid out from between a previously installed piece of siding and a piece of siding just installed. The hook portion has memory characteristics such that it will reassume its hook shape after being removed from between the siding pieces.

  • Patent number: 5408760
Abstract: A shoe is provided with an air pumping device capable of supplying fresh air from the ambient atmosphere into the interior of the shoe. The air pumping device is detachable from the shoe so that it can be cleaned to remove dirts or alien objects that may block the air flow path. The air pumping device is located beneath the forepart of a foot wearing the shoe. When the user makes a step forward, an air bag is compressed at the instant the forepart of the foot is bent to lift the heel off the ground, thereby generating an air pumping action. When the forepart of the foot stretches straight again, the air bag restores to its original shape, thereby generating an air sucking action. As the user keeps moving, the air pumping device will pump air successively from the ambient atmosphere into the interior of the shoe. The air flow direction may be reversed so as to pump air inside the shoe out to the ambient atmosphere.

Abstract: An improved dome structure on a base is disclosed comprising, in the preferred embodiment, of a membrane sandwiched between layers of rigidifying material such as shotcrete or reinforced composite which also serve to embed radial wires and circumferential tensioned prestressing. Various types of circumferential tensioned prestressing can be applied to minimize bursting stresses and can consist of steel wire as well as fiber or steel-reinforced tape. Further layers of rigidifying material can then be applied over the circumferential prestressing as a final protection and cover. The radial wires can contain spacers or hooks to preclude the circumferential prestressing from riding up on the structure. The lower portion of the dome can include a reverse curvature to minimize stresses and stabilize the structure. The rigidifying material may be composite which can be hardened by light curing. A second outer membrane can also be used for weather protection.

Abstract: A mid-roof anchoring system includes a series of anchoring channels secured to the roof structure along a line midway between the eave and the ridge of the roof. Metal roof panels installed over tile substructure are permitted to float laterally on the roof, except where they are attached to the anchoring channels. As a result, the roof panels expand or contract in both directions away from the midway line. This approach minimizes thermally induced movement the upper and lower edges of the roof, and minimizes reaction forces at the anchor.

Abstract: A seismic construction system is disclosed having in combination: a masonry anchor, a wall tie, and a facing anchor. A reinforcing wire is disposed longitudinally in the inner masonry wythe and has attached spaced pairs of transverse wire portions. Each transverse wire portion extends into the cavity and terminates in an eye wire having an eye disposed vertically in the cavity and lying in a plane normal to the masonry wythe surface. The open end of the wall tie is threaded through a pair of eye wires of the masonry anchor, which eye wire portion extends into the cavity between the inner masonry wythe and the outer facing wythe. The masonry anchor is adapted to be embedded within the inner masonry wythe; and, after threading through the eye wires, the open end of the wall tie, within the outer facing wythe. The facing anchor includes a clip member which is constructed to accommodate the open end of the wall tie member and also a reinforcing wire disposed longitudinally in the facing wythe.

Abstract: A packing machine for spherical vegetables includes a machine body, a film-cutting part, a film-gripping part, a clamp device and a heat sealing mechanism. The film-cutting part is installed on the rear part of the machine body and can be moved upwardly and downwardly. The clamp device is situated behind the film-cutting part for clamping the packing film. Furthermore, the film-gripping part is installed opposite to the clamping device and can slide forwardly and backwardly upon two guide rails by means of a motor driven transmission chain. When starting the packing machine, the film-gripping part moves forwardly to the clamping device to grip the packing film and then returns to its original position. Meanwhile, the film-cutting part is lowered to cut off the packing film. Then a spherical vegetable is placed on the packing film from a loading holder which is automatically lowered to an appropriate position while the heat sealing mechanism clamps and seals an upper part of the packing film.
