Patent number: 5720045Abstract: A protective garment having an outer shell and a thermal liner having a layer of apertured, closed-cell foam material. In a preferred embodiment, the foam material is fire retardant and the layer is bonded to the outer shell, and the garment includes a moisture barrier layer positioned between the foam liner and the wearer of the garment. The closed-cell foam liner is non-moisture absorbent and provides high thermal insulation for its weight and thickness in comparison to prior art thermal liners, so that a relatively thin layer of foam material may be used. Accordingly, the overall weight of the garment is minimized, as is the movement-restricting effect of the liner. The non-absorbency of the foam liner allows the liner to be positioned between the moisture barrier and the outer shell of the garment so that the liner does not restrict flow of perspiration moisture vapor from the wearer to the moisture barrier.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1995Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: Lion Apparel, Inc.Inventor: Donald Aldridge

Patent number: 5720070Abstract: A weld cleaning machine includes a frame which is secured by a roller chain immediately adjacent to a pipe having a weld to be cleaned. A rotary weld cleaning element is mounted to the frame on an oscillating arm such that the weld cleaning element oscillates along an oscillation axis oriented axially with respect to the pipe. A first motorized drive system is mounted on the frame to rotate the frame circumferentially around the pipe. A second motorized drive system is mounted on the frame to oscillate the weld cleaning element along the oscillation axis. A third motorized drive system is included in the oscillating arm to rotate the weld cleaning element. The weld cleaning machine is controlled remotely via a control cable and a control panel such that the operator can stand some distance from the pipe being cleaned. Preferably the machine automatically performs a programmed sequence of motions to clean a strip of substantial width along the axis of the pipe.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1996Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: Commonwealth Edison CompanyInventors: Aaron D. Patent number: 5720071Abstract: An implement for cleaning cooking grates. The cleaning implement has an elongated handle and a head including teeth. The teeth are adjustably secured to, and spaced laterally along, the head so as to fit in between the staves of a cooking grate. The teeth are laterally movable so as to be adjustable to a particular cooking grate. A preferred embodiment has a slot to provide for lateral movement of the teeth. One embodiment envisions use of tapered teeth for contacting the grate staves along a tapered region. One embodiment employs an ergonomic handle allowing for cleaning with only a horizontal back and forth motion.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1996Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Inventor: Daniel L. Hall

Patent number: 5720072Abstract: A motor vehicle screen wiper comprising a wiper blade which is applied against a swept surface by means of a wiper arm articulated on a drive head, so as to be driven by the latter in alternate wiping movement over the swept surface, includes a projecting element or lifting tab carried by the wiper arm. When the wiper is in its parked position, this lifting tab cooperates with an engagement face of a ramp which is fixed on the vehicle, so as to displace the wiper arm in such a way that the wiper blade tends to be separated from the swept surface, so as to reduce or eliminate the pressure with which the blade is applied to the swept surface in the parked position of the wiper. The lifting tab is made integral with the wiper arm.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1996Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: Valeo Systemes D'EssuyageInventor: Jean-Paul Boissac

Patent number: 5720073Abstract: A mop thread-squeezing apparatus capable of compressing mop thread sufficiently without deteriorating the operability thereof, by applying a great pressing force to the mop thread. A pinion fixed to a driving shaft and a rack supporting one end of a squeezing plate are installed on each of left and right side plates of a squeezing tank. A radius of a pitch circle of the pinion at a point of contact between the pitch circle of the pinion and a pitch line of the rack becomes gradually smaller in a region corresponding to a former half time period of a lever operation and is almost constant in a region corresponding to a latter half time period of the lever operation. In the former half time period of the lever operation, a squeezing plate moves downward rapidly and thus the amount of the downward movement thereof is great, whereas in the latter half time period of the lever operation, the radius of the pitch circle becomes smaller and thus the pressing force of the squeezing plate becomes greater.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1996Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: Yugengaisha AccessInventor: Katsuzo Kamada
