Abstract: A back-reinforced two-piece upper torso assembly for an articulated diving uit. The upper torso assembly includes a lower hollow rigid body of rounded shape for housing a diver's upper trunk, an upper hollow rigid body of rounded shape for housing a diver's head and being seated upon the lower hollow rigid body, and a clamping and sealing mechanism releasably coupling the upper hollow rigid body to the lower hollow rigid body about adjacent seated portions thereof so as to form a watertight joint therebetween wherein the upper hollow rigid body can rotate relative to the lower hollow rigid body. The upper torso assembly also includes a reinforcement structure connecting the upper hollow rigid body to the lower hollow rigid body along adjacent rear portions thereof so as to permit a lifting load applied to the assembly during water entry and exit to transfer to the lower hollow rigid body in such manner as to avoid stressing the watertight joint therebetween.

Abstract: The equipment for military aircraft pilots comprises a helmet (10) having a shell and a visor (18) for placing in front of the eyes. A central portion of the visor is of a shape such that at each point its minimum radius of curvature is substantially in a vertical plane and its maximum radius of curvature is in a plane substantially orthogonal to the preceding plane. The radius of curvature of the visor in the horizontal plane lies in the range 110 mm to 145 mm and its radius of curvature in a vertical plane parallel to the midplane of the helmet varies from about 135 mm in the center to about 75 mm in lateral zones.

Abstract: The present invention is a protective guard for use during sports such as snowboarding. It comprises a substantially rigid dipartite sleeve adapted to receive the distal forearm, wrist and proximal portion of a hand; thumb receiving region at one end of the sleeve to receive and partially surround the base of the thumb of a user and retaining straps to hold the sleeve on the arm of a user.

The hip protector is formed in the shape of a curved shell made of foamed rigid plastic material. Abstract: An infant swaddling apparatus is formed of a back panel (16) presenting an upper edge (24), a lower edge (26), and opposed side edges (28, 30) that are tapered toward one another between the upper and lower edges, and a front panel (18) presenting a lower edge (36) and opposed side edges (38, 40) that extend along and are secured to the lower and side edges of the back panel to define a pocket that is closed on the sides and bottom. The front panel (18) also includes an upper edge (42) that is spaced from the upper edge (24) of the back panel (16) in a direction toward the bottom of the pocket, and a hood (32) International Searching Authority secured to the upper edge of the back panel. The length of the pocket is adjustable to accommodate infants of various sizes, and a pair of pieces (46, 48) of hook-and-loop material are provided for this purpose. In addition, other pieces of hook-and-loop material (52, 54) may be provided for closing the pocket around an infant to retain body heat.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the manufacture of a neck-tie having an irregularly shaped outline defined by a design provided on the front apron of the tie which process comprises in any order the steps of: i) providing a design with an irregularly shaped outline on a fabric; ii) cutting the irregularly shaped outline of the tie from the fabric; and iii) providing means for securing the tie around a wearer's neck. The design may be printed on the fabric for example by a silk screen printing process or by a photographic thermal dye transfer method comprising the steps of: i) obtaining an image of an object to form the design for the front apron of the tie; ii) xerographically producing on a transfer sheet a reverse image of the design in heat transferable dyes; and iii) heat transferring the reverse image from the transfer sheet to a fabric from which the tie will be produced.

Abstract: A permanent mounting adapter that enables a "U" shaped rigid bidet tubing structure to be placed through a hole on top of the adapter. The adapter is affixed to the lavatory by an ultra high strength double sided adhesive tape. The bidet nozzle is placed directly under the dirty buttocks by moving a handle backward that is part of the tubing structure of the bidet. The bidet nozzle can be moved away after use by moving the handle forward. Moving the handle pivots the rigid bidet structure through the hole on top of the mounting adapter. The mounting adapter and tubing structure are placed below the lavatory seat.

Abstract: A cover for a water pool comprised of flexible waterproof material having a drainage opening positioned therein and a sleeve defining a passageway secured on the cover and in alignment with and intersecting the drainage opening allowing a filter means to be slidably positionable therein for filtering of rain water and melting snow to remove particulate matter, the filter means repositionable or removable for cleaning without the need for removing the cover for the water pool.

Abstract: A bathing apparatus for disabled and aged is presented which allows bathing of a person in a seated position in a wheel chair. The bathing apparatus is hygienic because the caster rollers for the wheel chair are isolated from the bath water in a non-water-filled section of the apparatus thus avoiding contamination of the bath water, and can be operated with ease with one helper person. The bathing apparatus requires less water for a full bath compared with the conventional wheel chair bathing units, because the chair frames are designed to ride on the inside of the bath tub. This configuration is made possible by having a chair frame supported on a single support rod which can be pushed inside the bath tub through a cut-out provided on the bottom section of the tub unit. The support rod emerging from the bottom section into the bath water is sealed by a pair of sealing members which are pressed tightly around the support rod to eliminate leaking of the bath water from the tub unit.

Abstract: An article of furniture is disclosed which includes a foldable frame assembly including a seat frame and a back rest frame. The article of furniture includes an integral frame. A trifold configuration and two bifold configurations are disclosed. A four-bar linkage is disclosed to provide added stability. As part of the four-bar linkage, a leg is hingedly attached to the back rest frame. A linkage interconnects the leg and the seat frame such that the leg retracts proximate the frame when the article furniture is in a seat position and extends away from the frame when said article of furniture is in an extended horizontal position. A release mechanism is also disclosed which is hingedly attached to the seat frame for assisting opening and closing the seat frame when the article of furniture is being placed in a seat position.

Abstract: A machine for lasting the toe and side and heel of an upper to an insole mounted to a last includes a toe and ball wiper assembly and a heel and shank wiper assembly in combination with a pincer assembly mechanism for stretching the upper tightly about the last and a toe clamping mechanism for clamping the stretched upper against the last. Following stretching and clamping, the toe wipers are actuated to press the upper margins against the insole bottom against the counter force of an overhead toe hold-down acting against the top of the upper. A brake mechanism fixes the overhead hold-down to maintain the toe wiping plane in a constant position. The heel wiper assembly is elevated within the machine to locate the heel wiper plane at a proper height relative to the insole bottom, the proper height being determined with a sensor mounted for movement with the heel wiper assembly. A heel clamping pad assembly connected to the heel wiper assembly then clamps the heel prior to stretching of the upper.

Abstract: A horizontal top brush for a vehicle laundering or finishing plant wherein a brush rotated by an hydraulic motor is mounted between the free ends of pivot arms carried by spaced vertical stanchions flanking a vehicle lane. Counterweight arms on the left and right sides of the wash lane have an axis of rotation which is spaced from the axis of rotation of the brush pivot arms. The counterweight arms are mechanically interconnected with the brush arms by sector gears, an arrangement which permits all of the brush and counterweight arms to lie on one side of the vertical support stanchions. The brush arms are slotted to permit the counterweight arms to pass through them. Brush position relative to the vehicle is varied as a function of brush motor reaction which in turn is a function of brush contact pressure or depth.

Abstract: A floor mop has a stick 10, a mop head 11 including a mop fabric 12 and an lower handle 14 and an upper handle 19. The lower handle is axially and rotatably movable relative to the stick 10 and is attached to one end of the mop fabric 12 of the mop head. The other end of the mop fabric is non-rotatably attached to a lower end of the stick 10. The upper handle 19 is attached to a sleeve 16 that is mounted on the stick 10 to enable the rotation of the stick relative to the lower handle 14 to wring the mop fabric 12 of the mop head. According to the present invention, the upper handle movably engages the sleeve 16 via a protrusion that extends into a helical groove 17 defined in the sleeve 16. The helical groove may have a slope that is gradually reduced as the helical groove extends from an upper portion of the sleeve to a lower portion of the sleeve.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a toothbrush with uniform diameter bristles containing a polishing agent with a particle size of from about 0.01 .mu.m to about 100 .mu.m, wherein cleaning of the teeth is improved without any of the adverse side effects associated with over aggressive abrasion. An embodiment of the present invention includes a toothbrush including a handle associated with a head having at least one tuft securely affixed in or attached to the head, said tuft including a plurality of filaments comprised of (a) a thermoplastic filament base material and (b) an effective polishing amount of a polishing agent having a particle size of from about 0.1 .mu.m to about 10 .mu.m. Particles less than 0.1 .mu.m can be used if aggregation occurs such that the aggregate size on bristle is described.

When a slide pin of the pin-latch unit is applied to lock the front window, this is detected by a detection means of a windshield control to render the wiper operative.

Abstract: A vacuum cleaner has: an air outlet, an air inlet, a dust chamber in communication with the air inlet, a fan driven by a main motor provided in a housing in communication with the air outlet and the dust chamber, a pressure detector which provides a signal showing variations characteristic of the floor type being cleaned; and circuitry, including a neural network for recognizing and classifying the floor type as a function of these variations, a setpoint generator for determining a pressure setpoint as a function of the variations, and a control circuit for controlling the power of the main motor so as to maintain the pressure setpoint.

Abstract: The present invention involves an industrial vacuum cleaner system for the collection of large debris in industrial settings, said vacuum capable of being mounted on a wheeled frame and being carried manually. The system has a vacuum unit having an impeller housing, an impeller disposed within the impeller housing, a motor housing attached to the impeller housing, and a motor disposed within the motor housing. The system has a handle affixed to said vacuum unit, means for detachably attaching the vacuum unit to said wheeled carriage, and means for gripping and carrying the vacuum unit by hand. The system has an improved impeller having a plurality of large vanes disposed on the forward side of the impeller and a plurality of smaller vanes disposed on the reverse side of the impeller. The system has an improved impeller housing assembly having en extension spacer which increases airflow through the impeller housing.

Abstract: A blower vacuum attachment for use with a multi-purpose power tool having a motor for powering the attachment on the elongated tubular boom extending between the attachment and the motor through which a drive shaft extends. The attachment includes a tubular connector for attaching a blower housing to the tubular boom. The blower housing has an axial air inlet and a circumferential air outlet. An impeller oriented within the housing and driven by the drive shaft draws air into the axial air inlet and discharges air to the air outlet. An intake tube is affixed to the blower housing inlet and extends axially therefrom. A debris collection bag and a blower tube can be alternately attached to the blower housing air outlet so that the blower vacuum attachment could be used respectively as a vacuum or as a blower.

Abstract: A vacuum assisted broom for sweeping floors having a sweeping member, preferably in the form of a plurality of stiff bristles, for bi-directional sweeping of the floor. The sweeping member is operatively mounted within a housing member, which housing member partially encloses the sweeping member within its hollow interior such that the bristles depend from the housing member through a first opening. A handle member is securely attached to the housing member and extends upwardly therefrom. The sweeping member is moveable between a first extended position the bristles are extended sufficiently that the broom may be used as a conventional broom, and a second retracted position where the sweeping member is substantially retracted into the housing member, with only a short end portion of the bristles extending outwardly from the housing member.

Abstract: A vacuum truck includes a storage tank mounted on the truck frame and a vacuum pump for drawing air into the storage so that a vacuum hose extending from material to be excavated to an inlet of the storage tank carries the material into the tank for discharge from the air prior to passage of the air to vacuum pump. A filter system is provided in the ducting between the storage tank and the vacuum pump to extract particles and moisture from the air. The filter system includes a chamber attached along one side of the cylindrical storage tank with that chamber having a plurality of curtains attached to an upper wall of the chamber and suspended vertically across the chamber. Each curtain is formed from a plurality of chain lengths suspended by a top link of the chain to a bracket at the top wall of the chamber. The lengths are arranged side by side to form a full curtain across the width and height of the chamber.

Abstract: Invention is directed to a compression spring mechanism, particularly in combination with a fencing system which incorporates a swinging gate. The mechanism, intended to automatically close a released and opened gate, comprises a cylindrical tube, mounted within the gate, a plurality of compression springs aligned end-to-end within the tube, and a spring housing secured to one end of the tube for receiving one of the compression springs. A cable, of predetermined length, passes through the housing and aligned springs and is secured to the spring end most remote from the spring housing. The other end of the cable is secured to a stationary member, such as a post about which the gate pivots. As the gate is opened, the springs are further compressed storing sufficient energy to allow closure of the gate when released.

Abstract: A door knob receptacle for receiving and retaining a door knob of a door within a pocket created in a wall by installation of the door knob receptacle thereon, comprising a hemispherical shell having an inner periphery and an outer periphery, a rectangular flange having a front and a rear, which surrounds the outer periphery, self-adhesive tape which is secured to the rear of the rectangular flange, and securing structure such as semi-rigid brushes disposed around and extending inward from the inner periphery of the hemispherical shell towards the center of the hemispherical shell in such a manner that a gap is formed in the center of the semi-rigid brush arrangement.

Abstract: A tool handgrip includes a core having two or more spaced longitudinal ridges secured to the outer peripheral portion of the core. The longitudinal ridges each includes a thickness ranging from 1 mm to 6 mm and each includes a hardness less than that of the core. The hardness of the longitudinal ridges ranges from SHORE A 35 to 75. The longitudinal ridges each includes one or more projections extended inward of the core or each includes a step ladder shaped surface for engaging with a corresponding step ladder shaped surface of the core for solidly securing the longitudinal ridges to the core.

Abstract: The invention relates to multi-use thin-walled tubular devices having a longitudinal slit with non-cutting overlapping edges and corners curved in a manner to provide scissor-like entry-ways at either open end and method of using such devices. The device is rigid lengthwise yet flexible in circumference and has renitent qualities such that the overlapping edges are spring-like. All surfaces and edges are smooth so that the devices are user-friendly and comfortable when used as handle grips for holding and carrying built-in handles of certain carrying objects, attachable handles for carrying items without built-in handles, hand-held exercisers, physical hand rehabilitation devices, hand-manipulated fasteners, and hand-manipulated separators. The dimensions of the device, the material used, and the method of construction may be adapted for the specific application.

Abstract: A handle conversion apparatus for attachment to a preexisting handle of a wheeled object, such as a wheeled suitcase. The preexisting handle of the wheeled object has a grip member positioned for use in a position substantially perpendicular to a desired direction of forward and backward motion of the wheeled object. The handle conversion apparatus comprises an apparatus attachment member for attaching the apparatus to the preexisting handle of the wheeled object, towards conversion of its orientation by 90 degrees. The apparatus further includes a hand grip having a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a longitudinal axis between the first and second ends; the longitudinal axis being substantially perpendicular to the grip member of the preexisting handle.

Abstract: A pulling knob for furniture includes a member having a hole formed in the center portion for engaging with a bolt and having a non-circular opening formed in the upper portion. The bolt includes a head formed on top and includes an outer thread formed in the lower portion for engaging with an inner thread of a hand grip. The bolt includes one or more ribs formed in the upper portion for engaging with the non-circular opening of the member and for preventing the bolt from rotating relative to the member.

Abstract: A Pre-stamped Half-hinge Adherent Cover designed to thoroughly protect all exposed surfaces of a half-hinge attached within the hinge recess of a door or jamb during the operation of coating and which combines the advantages of rigid covers (easy and quick to align and apply) with the advantages of flexible adhesive covers (securely remains in place and less expensive). In the preferred embodiment, numerous Pre-stamped Half-hinge Adherent Covers are provided on a roll so a painter can quickly and easily peel one off the roll and apply it to a half-hinge, greatly reducing the time involved in preparing a door or jamb to be coated and replacing the door in its jamb.

Abstract: A pintlepin is disclosed, for use to connect together adjacent ends of segments of an endless belt. The pintlepin has a pintle consisting of at least one filament having an outer diameter substantially identical to the diameter of the tubular opening formed by the intermeshed loops used as a seam at the adjacent ends of the segments to be connected. It also has a leader made of a rigid or semi-rigid material. This leader has an outer diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the tubular opening. It acts as a guide to facilitate insertion for the pintle through the tubular opening formed by the loops. A swager connects together the pintle and the leader. This swager consists of a tubing having a front portion and a rear portion in which the rear end of the lader and the front end of the pintle are respectively swaged.

Abstract: A one piece cable tie for forming a plurality of objects such as cables into a bundle. The cable tie includes in one embodiment an elongated flexible strap having a top planar surface, a bottom planar surface, a first end and a second end. The strap further includes a plurality of raised cross-members spaced along its length, each cross-member being in the shape of a ratchet tooth. A locking head is integrally formed to the first end of the strap. The locking head has a top surface and a bottom surface and includes a strap accepting channel having an inner end wall and an outer end wall. The outer end wall is shaped to include an angled locking face for engaging with one of the raised cross-members.

Abstract: A fastener clip assembly for securing in a non-rotative fashion a first material to a second material includes a substantially planar and polygonal shaped base member and a plurality of four engaging members. The engaging members extend substantially upwardly from associated sides of the base. A laterally projecting angled tab portion extends from each engaging member to a next succeeding engaging member and both the angled tab portions and engaging member faces are provided with aligning apertured portions. Seating portions extend from the engaging members and secure the extending tab portions with their associated engaging member so that, in combination, the fastener clip exhibits an outwardly directed and resilient bias. The engaging members of the clip are resiliently biased so as to insert through a central opening in the second material and to locking engage the second material in a non-rotative fashion.

Abstract: A device to secure golf club head covers to a golf bag includes a base ring member, a clip fitted to the base ring, and being structured for removable attachment to the golf bag, one or more elastomeric cords having a proximal end secured to the base ring with a swivel fitting and a distal end zone including a hook element fitted thereto with a swivel fitting for removable attachment of the cord to a respective one of the head covers, wherein the head covers, when removed from corresponding golf clubs, remain interconnected to the device and the golf bag so that they do not become separated therefrom and possibly misplaced or lost. One or more alligator clips or like fittings may be provided on the base ring for hanging a hat, glove, or other article therefrom.

Abstract: A tailored diaper or diaper cover is constructed of a waterproof diaper shell enclosing an elongated sling of waterproof or non-waterproof material having its upper and lower ends attached to, and its opposite sides free and floating on, the shell. A fluid absorbent pad on the inner surface of the sling is circumscribed by the waterproof material of the sling so as to establish a channel to entrap and isolate fluid from the shell. The lines of attachment between the waterproof and fluid absorbent materials at the upper and lower ends of the sling are arcuate, and the periphery of the sling is covered by elastic trim, causing the sling and pad to cup the pubis of a user when the diaper is worn. Entrapment of fluid within the sling may be enhanced by different pad inserts. A washable pad of novel "butterfly" construction within the diaper or diaper cover enhances fluid absorption and drying.

Abstract: A press-button device is provided that includes an upper part and lower part for fastening together fabric and other materials. The upper part has a hollow main part that includes a disc and a hollow central sleeve. Arranged within the main part are a compressible gripping connector within an outer gripping sleeve. A spring is positioned between the outer gripping sleeve and hollow central sleeve. A rivet secures the tops of the outer gripping sleeve and gripping connector to a button. A seal is provided between the button and the main part that protects the inside of the main part and permits axial movement of the button. The upper part also includes a plate positioned in the main part that carries a rigid annular sleeve with a conical-shaped interior surface that abuts against the end of the gripping connector. A washer secures the upper part to fabric or other material. The lower part includes a spherical undercut head for engaging the upper part gripping connector.

The locking device comprises a base member having generally parallel flat first and second principal surfaces. The first principal surface of the base member includes a pair of rib members and a pair of wall members with grooves formed therebetween. The locking device further includes a decorative cover member generally in the shape of and configured to simulate a three-dimensional character, figure, design, or object. The cover member has a generally flat first surface which includes a pair of rib members and a pair of wall members that form grooves therebetween. The base member is secured to the cover member with the respective first surfaces facing each other such that the rib members and grooves are aligned and the wall members are in engagement.

Abstract: A combination casket and burial vault comprising a lid and base, the base defining an interior, and a seal being disposed between the lid and the base. A substantially horizontally extending drive pin attaches the lid to the base without extending into the interior of the base. It is contemplated that one or more of the lid and base will include a composite material.

Abstract: A three-dimensional substrate material for use in constructing battery electrodes comprises a sintered matrix material selected from the group consisting of reticulated metal foams, conductive fibers and metal powder compacts, and a porous covering layer of a polymeric mesh material, flexible metal screen or metal fibers, bonded to at least one surface of the matrix material to retain the sintered matrix material substantially within the planar surface of the surface of matrix material during spiral-wounding of the chemically loaded matrix material.

Abstract: An umbrella fabrication method including the steps of (I) preparing a bamboo tube by cutting off nodes from a bamboo cane, (II) bonding a resin compound to the inside of the bamboo tube thus obtained, so as to obtain a resin bonded bamboo tube, and, (III) cutting the resin bonded bamboo tube into finished pieces, each finished piece having a flat bamboo base, and a resin rib body bonded to one side of the flat bamboo base.
