  • Patent number: 5746090
Abstract: A drive apparatus (5) is proposed, consisting of a drive casing (12) and a gear casing (19), in which the two casings (12, 19) are screwed to one another in a centered position and to the frame transverse component (2) with the incorporation between them of a plane wall of the front transverse frame portion (2) of a guide frame (1). The drive casing (12), preferably injection moulded in one piece from a wear-resistant, thermoplastics material, guides two drive cables (8, 9) with guide channels (15, 16) slender in the central portion (15) over such a length that the drive cables (8, 9) can emerge at both ends virtually free of lateral pressure from the drive casing (12) and enter the drive cable guides of the frame transverse portion (2). The drive casing (12) makes possible sliding movements of the drive cables guided with low radial clearance without noise caused by joint positions.

  • Patent number: 5746091
Abstract: Gear wheel play between cooperating gears of two cylinders whose axial spacing can be varied, in a rotary printing press can be eliminated by use of a free wheeling gear supported on the journal of the first of the two cylinders and engaging the gear wheel on the second cylinder. A circumferential shifting of the free wheeling gear will eliminate gear wheel play. A phase adjusting gear assembly is used to accomplish the circumferential phase shifting of this gear.

  • Patent number: 5746093
Abstract: In a device for compensating a torque that depends on rotation angle and results from the rotational motion of a mass around a rotation axis, the rotational motion is converted into a linear displacement of a movably mounted displacement unit along a displacement axis in a defined manner depending on the rotation angle. The torque acting at any given time is compensated by an elastic compensating element that exerts a force opposite to the linear displacement of the displacement unit. Such a device is particularly suitable for compensation of torques that depend on rotation angle in medical stands.

  • Patent number: 5746101
Abstract: This invention pertains to a method and for cutting an intermediate article of manufacture, the intermediate article of manufacture being a cord reinforced elastomeric laminate. The laminate when cut to length, becomes a carcass for a pneumatic tire. The laminate is cut by a cutting element at angles .theta. greater than 60.degree. relative to a normal plane (NP) perpendicular to a cord reinforced ply of the laminate and parallel to the cords to thereby create large substantially flat planar splice surfaces without significant deformation or precuring of the unvulcanized elastomeric materials. To facilitate this cut, the relative position of the cutting element and the ply is changed to an angle .beta., .beta. being less than .theta.. The ply is cut a short distance, at the angle .beta., to position the cutting element between two parallel cords. Then the cutting element is reoriented to the angle .theta. to complete the cut.

  • Patent number: 5746106
Abstract: A device and method for superficially incising a sausage-like meat product includes a plurality of rotatable cutting elements which are arranged to define a chute therebetween. Each cutting element includes a cylinder and has a circular blade which projects radially from the cylinder. The centers of the respective blades, also located in the cylinder, define a base plane and the blades are all similarly tilted to rotate in tilt planes which are angled from the base plane. In the operation of the device, all cutting elements are simultaneously rotated and a meat product is inserted into the chute. Rotation of the cutting elements simultaneously causes the cylinder to draw the meat product through the chute and causes the blades on the cylinder to superficially cut a helical shaped incision into the meat product. The depth of the cuts are established by the projection of the blades, and the pitch of the helical incisions, can be controlled by the tilting of the cutting elements.

Every double lever is pivotally mounted to a pressing column. The pressing columns of a respective pair of double levers are mounted to a relative ram. Each ram is guided by three guide columns, of which two are rigidly connected to a ram and one to the frame of the press. By the symmetrical dividing of the driving structures and the two rams derived therefrom the punch press is given an extremely long space for mounting the tools without that the height of the punch press, the allowable rated output and the moving masses must be kept overly large.

Abstract: A calender for treating a web of paper includes a stack of hard rollers and soft rollers. The stack includes a first set of processing nips and a second set of processing nips. Each processing nip is formed by a juncture of one of the hard rollers and one of the soft rollers. One side of the web of paper contacts against the hard rollers in the first set of processing nips and contacts against the soft rollers in the second set of processing nips. At least a last soft roller in the stack, which delimits a last processing nip that the web of paper passes through in the calender, has a lower surface roughness R.sub.a than a surface roughness R.sub.a of at least a first soft roller in the stack. The first soft roller delimits a first processing nip that the web of paper passes through in the calender. The surface roughness R. of the last soft roller is less than 0.35 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 5746126
Abstract: This invention relates to a rubbish compression apparatus, comprising: a base plate; a main body, mounted on the base plate, into which the rubbish will be thrown; a roughly funnel-shaped compress tube, taking in the rubbish that has been thrown in; a compressing device, having a first pressing plate, which uses a threaded shaft; a shaft, which passes glidingly through the first pressing plate and the threaded shaft along their longitudinal axis; a second pressing plate, mounted below the first pressing plate on the low end of the shaft; and an anvil plate, mounted below an opening in the lower part of the compression tube. The second pressing plate is taken by the shaft to enter the compression tube and pre-compresses the rubbish. After that, the first pressing plate is driven down by use of the threaded shaft, pushing the second pressing plate to further compress the rubbish.

A method of fabricating the electroformed squeegee blade is also disclosed. The method of fabrication, which produces an electroformed squeegee blade having smooth, planar, and flat surfaces, involves electroforming at least one uniform layer of metal onto a conductive substrate and removing the substrate. Also disclosed is an apparatus and method that employ the electroformed squeegee blade to uniformly deposit printing material on printed wiring boards.

Abstract: The apparatus is a spray shield to prevent ink and cleaning fluids from being spun off of the ends of printing cylinders. A cylindrical shield around the end of the printing cylinder is attached to a hub resting on the printing cylinder axle, and the hub and shield have sections held together by a hinge and a latch so they can be unlatched and removed for cleaning. An axial spring assembly is attached to the hub on the side opposite from the cylindrical shield so that the springs compress and friction is minimized if the hub is contacted by the printing cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5746133
Abstract: A postage meter has an improved means of monitoring the position of the cover providing access to the print rotor. A mechanical latch and associated mechanism is provided responsive to a cam on the print rotor and responsive to the movement of the cover, and the mechanism has an electrical sensor output to the processor of the postage meter. In the event that the cover is opened at a time when the rotor is away from its home position, for example at a time when the power to the meter has failed, the latch enters a latched state. Upon the restoration of power the meter determines if the rotor is away from its home position, and if it is, the meter inspects the sensor output to determine if the latch has been caused to enter its latched state. This condition is annunciated, for example by rendering the meter incapable of printing postage.

Abstract: A railway vehicle has a frame which is suspended on wheelsets each having a live axle. The ends of the axles are mounted in axleboxes. Couplings are provided which are attached to the vehicle frame and which couple an axlebox of one wheelset to an axlebox of another wheelset. The couplings are such as to constrain relative movements between the wheelsets in a lateral plane. In addition, each coupling includes a crank lever which operates to uncouple lateral movements of the frame from the movements of the wheelsets, thereby providing a shear stiffness to the vehicle and reducing vehicle hunting at speed. The crank levers are connected to the wheelboxes by links which are inclined with respect to a longitudinal axis of the frame, such that the links lie on axes which intersect at the longitudinal axis.
