  • Patent number: 5809667
Abstract: A snowshoe includes a perimeter frame carrying sheet-type floatation and having a hinge rod supported transversely of the frame. A bearing sleeve or bushing is disposed about the hinge rod and a cooperates therewith to enable snap-on assembly and release of a claw plate having a binding supported thereon, thereby enabling interchanging of claw plates and bindings for a particular snowshoe frame and decking. The hinge rod and bushing cooperate to vary the frictional resistance to relative rotation between the claw plate and hinge rod, and thereby provide a shock absorber effect. Various features of the claw plate enable adjustment of the frictional resistance to rotation of the claw plate about the hinge rod to accommodate different uses of the snowshoe and different characteristics of the user. Other features include an improved arrangement for securing the outer marginal edge of the sheet-type decking or floatation material to the frame.

  • Patent number: 5809672
Abstract: A wing plow yoke which may be manually actuated to laterally move outwardly from the front side of a plowing vehicle to allow access to the vehicle's hood, and thus to its engine. Mounting brackets attached to opposite sides of the front of the vehicle are provided with bracket apertures wherein a yoke bar is fit so that the yoke bar can move within the bracket apertures. A gear wheel or a fulcrum-and-lever arrangement is provided which engages a series of spaced depressions situated along the length of the yoke bar. By turning the gear wheel, or by selectively engaging depressions in the yoke bar with the lever, the yoke bar (and thus the wing plow) is moved laterally outwardly from the side of the vehicle. This arrangement avoids the need for any power transmission from the engine in order to move the yoke bar, and thus the yoke bar (and wing plow) may be moved outwardly from the side of the vehicle even in the event of engine failure.

  • Patent number: 5809687
Abstract: An apparatus and method of attaching a flexible line to a fixed object by use of an improved attachment shank with angled and spaced apart attachment coils. The attachment shank is based upon a one piece shank having at least three angled and spaced apart coils, along with an end coil, formed at one end of the shank with the other end of the shank typically forming a hook, clasp, or the like. The spaces disposed between the angled coils allow for windable insertion of the open end of a loop of fishing line between the spaces. The closed end of the loop extends towards the hooked end and a strand of the loop is wrapped around the shank at least four times. The line extend from the coils and the hook are then pulled in opposite directions which pulls the wound line taunt about the shank and angled coils. The line is thereby tightly secured to the shank through frictional engagement which increases with tension, yet does not unnecessarily bend or bind the attached line.

  • Patent number: 5809688
Abstract: A reusable trap capable of trapping rodents alive is self-locking. The trap comprises an elongated tube with a first terminus entry opening and a second terminus having a moveable closure door. A trapping door and latch means are mounted within the elongated tube in a manner which allows the trapping door to swing inwardly towards the second terminus by a pushing force supplied by the rodent. The latching means ensures that the trapping door cannot fully swing outwardly towards the first terminus nor can the door be pulled inwardly. A support member secured to the elongated tube at or near the second terminus elevates the second terminus and provides a slightly upwardly slope towards the second terminus when the trap is placed on a horizontal surface. The upward slope enhances the initial appeal of the bait and the trap to the rodent.

  • Patent number: 5809691
Abstract: A device for the irrigation of trees, both at the stand and lower trunk and branch areas of the tree. The device is composed of a decorative upper bell/funnel which can be mounted anywhere in a tree, a connected hose, and a lower bell/funnel connected to the other end of the hose. The upper funnel acts as a decorative object on the tree, while the lower funnel is placed concave down in the stand of the tree. The hose connecting the two funnels has a plurality of small holes along its length, and is attached to the trunk of the tree. In use, the user fills the upper funnel with water, which then travels through the hose towards the lower funnel located in the tree's stand. Some water dissipates from the small holes in the hose, thereby providing water for the trunk and lower branches, while the rest of the water exits the hose at the lower funnel into the stand, providing water for the tree to consume at a later time.
