  • Patent number: 6223383
Abstract: A pad for a rotary-type floor cleaning and/or polishing machine which comprises a generally disc-like member of hair or fiber mat, etc., which has a perimetral (i.e., circumferential) edge with a series of recesses extending generally inwardly and away from the nominal outer circumference of the disc-like member, toward the center part of the latter, to form a plurality of sequentially arranged, outwardly projecting portions between such recesses which are disposed adjacent one another around the circumference of the disc-like member. In various possible embodiments, these outwardly projecting portions define an undulating or scalloped outer periphery, and such portions are preferably of rounded configuration, formed by arcuate or at least partially circular edges which also define the aforementioned recesses. Further, in preferred embodiments, such projecting portions are disposed directly and closely adjacent one another around the entire outer periphery or perimeter of the disc-like pad.

  • Patent number: 6223418
Abstract: A method of preparing a metal tube for a length of superconducting wire Inserts superconducting base material into the tube and packs or coils the tube so that a portion of its outer surface would contact another surface. To prevent the portion of the outer surface from sticking to the other surface, the portion is coated with powder material particles suspended in an effectively liquid component before the packing or coiling so that the surfaces do not contact each other. The powder material has a melting point temperature higher than the melting point temperature of the tube and the liquid component evaporates or burns away completely at the temperature that forms the superconducting phase of the superconducting base material.

  • Patent number: 6223420
Abstract: A read head has a flux guide layer that is immediately adjacent (abuts) the back edge of a read sensor. The flux guide layer is made of a high resistance soft magnetic material that conducts magnetic flux from the back edge of the read sensor so that the magnetic response at the back edge of the read sensor is significantly higher than zero. This increases the efficiency of the read sensor. The material for the flux guide layer is A-B-C where A is selected from the group Fe and Co, B is selected from the group Hf, Y, Ta and Zr and C is selected from the group O and N. In a preferred embodiment A-B-C is Fe—Hf—O and the Ms&rgr; of the flux guide layer is greater than 50 times the Ms&rgr; of the read sensor layer where the read sensor layer is NiFe, Ms is saturation magnetization and &rgr; is resistivity. Because of the flux guides high resistance current shunting losses are nearly eliminated.

Each of the upper and lower electrodes is separated into an isolated portion and a main portion. The isolated portions of the upper and lower electrodes are electrically connected to each other and to the center electrode by an input terminal. Upper and lower output terminals are provided, respectively, on the main portions of the upper and lower electrodes and are electrically connected to each other. Abstract: When a seal (10) with a lip (10A) is slid onto a shaft (14), the seal (10) is first slid from a D-cut portion (14C) to the end of a shaft body (14B) contiguous to the D-cut portion (14C), and then is slid at a first speed (at 40 mm/s) from this end to a position in which the seal (10) does not come into contact with a large-diameter portion (14A) of the shaft (14). Since there is a strong possibility that the lip (10A) of the seal (10) will have been completely curled at this time. the seal (10) is pulled out at a second speed (at 10 mm/s) on the shaft body (14B) from this position toward the D-cut portion (14C), and the seal (10) is again slid inward at a third speed (at 70 mm/s) from this position to an appropriate position. Thus, the seal (10) is slid without the lip (10A) being curled. The sliding operations at the second and third speeds may be performed a plurality of times.

Abstract: Devices for introducing valve keys in internal-combustion-engine valves have heretofore required complex locking and actuating devices in order to bring the valve keys into a fitting position. In order to reduce the introducing procedure, a guide body has a recess which runs symmetrically with respect to its central axis. A conveying channel is formed by a pin passing through the recess in its longitudinal direction, by wall regions of the recess and by guide beads which are attached in such a way that they can pivot and are extended parallel to the pin in their basic position. The guide bead is bent inwards in the direction of the pin with such a radius and a distance between the bent region and the pin as well as the valve stem is set in such a manner, that bulges of the fed-in valve key engage into annular grooves of the valve stem at the end of the conveying channel.
