Abstract: A flat portable fan with an impeller on a motor shaft and a commutatorless direct current motor is provided having a printed circuit board in the stator and an axially magnetized permanent magnet in the rotor. The circuit board comprises a printed circuit having electronic components of the fan drive and is made from an iron base material with an insulating layer, which carries the stator windings and an axial starting bearing for the rotor. The impeller is mounted in a cylindrical rotor mounting support and is driven by the axially magnetized permanent magnet. The iron base material and the permanent magnet substantially define a planar air gap.

Abstract: Herbal formulations are disclosed for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, in particular Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The compositions are formulated preferably with powdered herbs however combined extracts of herbs are also contemplated.

Abstract: There is disclosed a method for treating dermatologic diseases caused by microbial overgrowth or inflammation, such as psoriasis, fungal infections, eczema, dandruff, acne, genital herpes lesions, and leg ulcers. There is further disclosed an antiviral lubricating composition that is effective in preventing the transmission of the HIV virus and other sexually transmitted diseases. There is also disclosed systemic and anti-inflammatory compositions and formulations and a method for reducing tissue inflammation in tissues such as the bowel, muscle, bone, tendon and joints (e.g., arthritis).

Abstract: A method of manufacturing cheese which is simulative of pasta filata cheeses, but which does not require a mixing and/or molding step, and the cheese product produced by the method, are disclosed. The method includes the steps of pre-acidifying milk; ripening the milk with a mesophilic starter culture to yield cheese milk; coagulating the cheese milk by adding a coagulant to yield a coagulum; cutting the coagulum to yield curds and whey; separating the curds from the whey and washing the curds in water; and proceeding directly to salt, hoop, and press the curds in the absence of any milling, mixing, or molding of the curds.

Abstract: A connector device includes a housing having a slide plate with a handle. By the manual operation of the handle, the slide plate is moved by a disengageable link mechanism along the length of the housing. When a data storage medium is fully inserted in the connector device and the handle is in a first position, the link mechanism is disengaged. The link mechanism becomes engaged, and thereby operable to move the slide plate, only after the handle is moved from the first position to an extended position. In this manner, inadvertent ejection of the data storage medium is prevented.

Abstract: A method of stunning an animal for slaughter includes the steps of providing the animal for slaughter; conveying the animal using conveying means; while conveying, causing a first current pulse having a maximum duration of 10 seconds to flow through the head and/or neck region of the animal to stun the animal; and, while conveying, causing a second current pulse to flow through the body of the animal to cause a cardiac arrest. The first and second current pulses may be applied successively or may be overlapping or partly overlapping.

Abstract: A knee pad is disclosed for cushioning a human knee. The knee pad includes a cushion section having a fluid-filled chamber. The fluid chamber is filled with a gas, a liquid, a gel, or another fluid. A knee cup is removably attached to the outer layer of the cushion section. The knee cup is interchangeable, so that a knee cup of an appropriate material may be attached for the particular activity the wearer is engaged in. The knee pad is held on the knee by at least one fastening strap. Each fastening strap is removably attached to the cushion section, so that it may easily be replaced when worn out. The invention also includes a knee pad set having two or more interchangeable knee cups for various construction jobs and/or sports.

Abstract: This invention is directed to an improved pair of chaps (15) for use by a rider when riding a horse. In the preferred embodiment, the chaps are comprised of two leg portions (16, 18), an upper portion (19), the upper portion having a yoke portion (20), the yoke portion having a waist belt (21), whereby the chaps may be worn without trousers and provide protection to the rider. The invention discloses that each leg portion may have an off-center seam (22) and the seam may be set off-center (23) by one half inch. Each leg portion may include a snap connection (24) for raising the lower part of the leg portion. The waist belt may comprise belt tips (26) adapted for use with a buckle set, or the waist belt may include a concho (27). The yoke portion may include an inner pocket (28) and each leg portion may include a boot contour (29) and/or fringe (30).

Abstract: A cap for wearing under the team designating outer cap during team water sports consists of a hemispherically shaped body defining side sections and the first and a second transverse section. The cap is reversible so that either the first or the second transverse section can be worn over the forehead of the wearer. To prevent a violation of rules and to avoid confusing the players it is conventional that the inner cap resemble the outer cap in color. Conventionally one team wears a white or light-colored cap while the opposing team wears a dark colored cap. The inner cat of the present invention is provided with dark indicia covering the portion of the surface of one of the transverse sections so that in the event the outer cap rides back on the players head exposing the portion of the inner cap, the indicia will substantially reduce possible confusion which could occur if the players catch a glimpse of the normally light-colored inner cap.

Abstract: A jacket provided with a pocket that is internal of the jacket, but which is accessible from the exterior. The pocket is positioned on the front of the jacket, in the top portion of the sleeve. The opening of the pocket has one edge that is a part of the torso-enveloping portion, and one edge that is a part of the sleeve. The device for closing the opening is a part of the mechanism for assembling the sleeve to the torso-enveloping portion.

Abstract: An apparatus for irradiating an infant includes a frame for supporting the infant, and a source of radiation positioned below the frame and the infant. The frame includes a fully transparent section for allowing the radiation to pass therethrough to the infant. The apparatus further includes a therapy blanket detachably connected to the frame to cover the infant. The therapy blanket includes a transparent section through which radiation can pass to the infant. The therapy blanket forms a restraining garment and defines a pouch having a pair of sleeves for passively restricting the infant to be treated.

Abstract: Long-sleeved wearing apparel are provided with self-contained mittens or gloves, each comprising an open-top hand and finger pocket secured in the interior of the sleeve adjacent to the lower end of the sleeve, an opening in the sleeve adjacent to the upper end of the hand and finger pocket, and a thumb pocket secured to the sleeve at the opening and extendable and retractable through the opening to form with the hand and finger pocket a self-contained mitten or glove.

Abstract: A batting glove includes a plurality of finger elements, a thumb element, a top portion, and a lower portion. The finger elements cover fingers, the thumb element covers a thumb, the top portion covers a back side of the hand, and the lower portion covers a palm of the hand. Preselected thicknesses of preselected materials are included in order to protect the bones, ligaments, pulleys, tendons, etc. of a wearer from direct shock, and to distribute stress along the hand.

Abstract: A chemical-resistant protective glove includes a polymer base with a thin fluoroelastomeric coating. The glove is made by first placing the base on a mounting frame and inflating it with gas to spread the fingers. Successive thin layers of a water-base emulsion of the fluoroelastomeric material are then sprayed on the base. The final coating is applied with a relatively high air flow, creating a matte finish.

Abstract: A waistband is disclosed herein for use in maintaining articles of clothing in place while being worn, and which includes a partial waistband having a clothes engaging adhesive on opposite sides thereof for removable, adhesive engagement with the clothing. A container is supplied for storage of said waistband when not in use.

Abstract: A trouser ornament generally including an upper portion, a lower portion, and a connector portion for connecting the upper and lower portion; the portions being arranged such that the trouser ornament is preferably placed about the fly of a pair of trousers wherein the upper portion rests on and extends across at least a portion of the top surface of the fly, the lower portion rests on and extends across at least a portion of the bottom surface of the fly and the connector portion is preferably maintained at the edge of the fly.

Abstract: An activating device of a visor for integral helmets that is kept fully embedded and flush with the helmet when the visor is in its closed position. This device is applied to an inside seat in the helmet which remains closed by the visor. The seat is disposed in the opposite sides of the helmet porthole aperture. The device comprises a base plate having an external slide mounted on the base plate. There are a series of pre-loaded springs that act on the external slide. There is also an internal slide which is translatable, parallel to the external slide within a rotary body. The rotary body has raised or grooved flanks. There are also a series of connecting rods connected to these flanks. The ends of the connecting rods are hinged on the internal slide. The opposite ends of the connecting rods are then hinged to a table bearing the visor. There is also a release lever, mounted on the base plate and pushed by a contrast spring.

Abstract: A goggles assembly has a one-piece molded frame which includes a pair of lens rims, a bridge interconnecting the lens rims, and a pair of looped protective pads connected to and lining the lens rims. The lens rims have a stiffness sufficient to resist deformation caused by a pulling force. The bridge has a stiffness different from that of the lens rims. The protective pads have flexibility and softness sufficient to flex so as to conform to the profile of a wearer's face. The molded frame is fabricated from at least two different molding compositions, one of which has high stiffness to impart rigidity to the lens rims, and the other one of which imparts good flexibility to the protective pads.

Abstract: The present eye wear is comprised of a pair of lenses, a pair of releasable connectors connected to respective inner ends of the lenses, a pair of temples pivotally connected to respective outer ends of the lenses, and a rigid strap attached between the rear ends of the temples. The strap is positioned below the lenses so as to not interfere with a hairdo or helmet. The inner ends of the lenses are releasably secured together by the connectors. To wear, the lenses are separated from each other and pivoted outwardly, the strap is wrapped around the back of the head, and the lenses are pivoted toward each other and secured together in front of the eyes. The lenses are instantly separable for easily putting on or taking off the eye wear, but they are instantly connectable together for a secure and accurate fit. In a second embodiment, the strap is comprised of an adjustable-length flexible strap.

Abstract: AN AQUATIC raisable floor apparatus includes a platform and a buoyancy chamber in the platform with a top and a bottom. The chamber is closed on the top and open to the pool near the bottom. There is an air supply connected to the chamber. A valve is capable of venting the chamber to atmosphere. The platform is raised by filling the chamber with air from the air supply and the platform is lowered by venting air from the chamber to atmosphere through the vent. There is also a guide mechanism for guiding the platform as the platform is raised or lowered. The guide mechanism includes vertically extending racks. Rotatable pinions engage the racks.

Abstract: In a swimming pool in which water is circulated by a pump, a schoolboy child is liable to be absorbed into a discharge port, which is dangerous. A sensor which has a load cell is provided at the back of a water-permeable cover in the discharge port. If a human body of the child is absorbed into the discharge port and contacted with the cover, the load cell is pressed by the water-permeable cover to transmit a signal to a control circuit in which it is determined whether or not pressure variation applied to the sensor is normal or abnormal. If abnormality is determined therein, an alarm is sounded to inform a watcher of the accident and the pump is stopped to release the child from the discharge port.

Abstract: A tub defines a volume for receiving a child and holding water in a top side at least when oriented in a reclined position, the tub having a back side, head and foot ends, and first and second arms connected by a front cross member. The first and second arms are pivotally attached to the tub about an axis displaced from the foot end of the tub into at least first and second positions. The front cross member is disposed above, and displaced from, the top side of the tub when the arms are in first position. An elongated member is attached to the front cross member at a first end and extends from the front cross member to a second end having a foot disposed below the foot end of the tub and adapted to engage a smooth surface. The elongated member extends toward the foot end of the tub to provide a passive crotch restraint for a child received by the tub when the arms are in first position.

Abstract: A multi-functional and transportable wash station for use in an industrial facility, the facility having overhead extending pressurized water supply lines and waste water drainage lines. The wash station includes a body with a polygonal shaped base and a superstructure extending upwardly from the base. An inlet supply line extends from the body and is operatively connected to a selected water supply line of the facility. A selected number of both potable and non-potable water supply sources, such as faucet and sink stations, faucet and hose connections, drinking fountains and emergency shower stations are provided at specified locations of the wash station and are in communication with the inlet supply line. An electric power input is provided to the wash station and operates such features as a sewage ejection pump, a water heater and a water chiller.

Abstract: A sink or wash-basin guard provides an elevated barrier between a person and a cleaning liquid. The guard is attached to the sink with suction cups, and is readily removed and replaced. Cut-out portions are provided around which a person can easily reach, while not sacrificing the benefits associated with a greater height sink edge. The splash guard is also configured to provide support for a person's arms to rest upon, while using the sink. The armrest finds particular application with those persons who have been injured or have back problems, the elderly, and others with physical limitations, and also for those situations such as in commercial kitchens where a person will need to spend extended periods at the sink. An extension is provided which will accommodate sinks of various depths and persons of diverse heights, and the material selected for the guard, extension and suction cups is most preferably both durable and resilient.

Abstract: An adjustable collapsing cot is disclosed which can be utilized in numerous situations including evacuations and military operations. The cot includes an outer frame member and an inner frame member which are both preferably divided into two sections and are both pivotable approximate their center point. Either section of the inner frame member can be adjusted to one or more elevation angles with respect to the outer frame member as desired by the user. A spring loaded webbing material is provided to safely support and cradle the user. Preferably, a mattress is provided and is disposed on top of the spring loaded webbing. One or more restraint belts can be provided to safely secure the user while he or she is utilizing the cot. Several accessories items, including an intervenes pole, message flag and miscellaneous item bag/compartment can be provided and attached to the cot. When it is desired to move the cot, the cot can be folded into an easily transportable configuration.

Abstract: A side rail assembly for a wheeled carriage includes side rail posts secured by a support structure including bushings having inner flat sides that expand outwardly to adjust for variations in the tolerance of the side rail posts and snugly secure the side rail posts to the support structure. Such variations can be caused by a finished surface applied to the entire outer circumference of the side rail posts and the support structure to improve the appearance thereof. The support structure enables curved side rail posts to rotate about their axis at lower ends thereof.

Abstract: A mattress cover, for covering a standard mattress, having a major portion and a minor portion. The major portion has a major pocket which defines a rectangular volume. The minor portion has a minor pocket which defines a rectangular volume. The major pocket and minor pocket are separated by a three edge split and are joined by a top sheet. One side of the mattress is inserted into the major pocket, and then the minor portion is pulled over the opposite portion, fully encasing the mattress therein. Fastener material joins the major and minor portions to keep the cover securely in place.

Abstract: A tray may be temporarily attached to a supporting frame, such as a bed frame rail, to provide a support surface that enables the placement of various desired personal accessories in close proximity to persons enjoying limited mobility. A side support member is attached to an edge of the tray, and extends perpendicularly above and below the support surface of the tray. The upper portion of the side support is formed into a retaining hook, of a size permitting it to be received upon a circular bed support railing. The lower portion of the side support rests against a lower support railing. In this manner the lower side support resists the tendency of the retaining hook to rotate about the upper bed frame railing as accessories are placed upon the outwardly-extending support surface.

A cushion cover encloses the cushion body. At least one fastening device is mounted on an end area on the cushion cover or the cushion body, and can be brought into a detachable connection with at least one anchoring point mounted on the interior side of the cushion cover or the exterior side of the cushion body.

Abstract: An air mattress system includes a plurality of inflatable air chambers operatively connected to form an air mattress, a reversible air pump operatively connected to the air chambers, and a manually operable control operatively connected to the air pump for controlling the operation of the air pump. The manually operable control has at least a first setting for operating the air pump in a first direction for inflating the air chambers and at least a second setting for operating the air pump in a second direction for deflating the air chambers. Preferably, at least one inflatable air chamber is disposed below the plurality of air chambers to form a foundation for the air mattress. A gauge is included for measuring the air pressure in at least one of the air chambers, the gauge having a display for displaying the measured air pressure to a user.

Abstract: An air bed structure capable of alternate lying thereon on either of one's sides, wherein, the air bed is divided into an upper and a lower layer, each layer is divided into a right and a left part each being comprised of an air bladder. A U typed air bladder is provided between the upper and the lower layers. The air bladders are arranged to cooperate with two specific air valves, multiple pipe lines and a controlling electronic circuit to provide various aeration states including single air-bladder aeration on both sides of the air bed, single air-bladder aeration on one side of the air bed, both air-bladder aeration on one side of the air bed, single air-bladder aeration on the other side of the air bed and both air-bladder aeration on the other side of the air bed etc. Thereby a patient lying on the air bed can adjust the aeration state of the air bed in pursuance of requirement. The body of the patient can be raised to rotate rightward, leftward by making a small or big turning of his body.

Abstract: A tool according to the invention includes elements adapted to achieve a primary function of the tool, and further includes a writing element adapted to achieve a writing function. In one example, the tool is a screwdriver, and the writing element comprises a pencil lead that can be extended from the head end of the screwdriver to achieve a writing function, and retracted within the head end of the screwdriver to perform a screwdriving function.

The connection between the drive shaft and the cleaning section provides linear reciprocating motion of a portion of the cleaning section. In another embodiment orbital motion is provided. In another embodiment rotational motion and linear motion are provided. In another embodiment the user can switch between two types of motion.

Abstract: Heretofore, the average commercially available toothbrush had to depend on surfaces not attached to the toothbrush itself in order for the toothbrush to be stored when not in use, either in a holder often of questionable hygiene attached to a wall, in a drinking glass or other makeshift storage position. The unique feature of the combined toothbrush handle and stand as described in this application provides for the efficient, hygienic storage in a single unit, permitting the toothbrush bristles to air dry in an upright position free from contact with any surface. This is created by flexible moveable shafts set into the handle which are easily extended or retracted by the toothbrush user with the aid of a moveable ring to which the shafts are attached, thus creating a fully deployable stand alone base.

Abstract: A foot scrubber (10) designed to be placed on a shower floor to allow a person who experiences difficulty to cleanse their feet. The foot scrubber (10) consists of a base (12) having an upper surface (14), a lower surface (16) and side edges (18). From the upper surface (14) extends upward a multiplicity of bristles (24). The foot scrubber (10) can be also designed to include an upward extending section (40) that is attached to each of the side edges (18). The sections (40) include an inner surface (44) having a multiplicity of inward extending bristles (24) that allow the sides of the feet to easily cleaned. To use the foot scrubber (10), a person applies soap to the bristles (24) and then rubs his/her foot on the bristles (24).

The slider unit runs onto the lifter to lift the wiper blade so that the wiper blade may be rotated on the holding axis until the wiper blade comes in contact with the wiper arm when the wiper device is stopped and the wiper blade is concealed. An elastic element for absorbing noise such as rubber or sponge is disposed between the wiper arm and wiper blade so that the wiper blade comes in contact with the wiper arm via the elastic element when the wiper blade is lifted.

Abstract: A wiper arm assembly for the windshield wiper of a vehicle. The wiper arm assembly includes a wiper arm and a wiper blade pivotably engaged. The wiper arm is affixed to a wiper shaft. The wiper blade includes a carrier frame for holding and guiding a rubbery elastic wiper strip. The wiper arm assembly also includes an additional support element rigidly joined to the wiper arm, spaced apart from a pivot axis between the wiper arm and the wiper blade. The additional support element engages the wiper blade on the wiper strip and supports the wiper blade in the wiping direction and counter to the wiping direction.

Abstract: The proposed support element (12) for a wiper strip (15) of rubber-elastic material belonging to a wiper blade (10) for motor vehicle windshields is fastened to the underside (22) of the elongated springing-elastic support element (12) facing the windshield so as to be parallel to the longitudinal axis, wherein this support element (12) is produced through the use of woven fiber material that is impregnated with a reaction mixture. A particularly simple and economical production of the support element (12) is possible when this support element (12) is produced entirely from the fiber material impregnated with the reaction mixture.

Abstract: The invention concerns a wiper or an exchange kit for a wiper for a windshield wiper installation for the cleaning of a windshield of a vehicle with a wiper blade that is retained on an oblong retaining structure by means of retaining claws of the retaining structure gripping the head strip of the wiper blade from the top and engaging in longitudinal grooves that are formed on opposite longitudinal sides of the head strip. An end bracket that is attached to one end of the head strip retains the wiper blade longitudinally on the retaining structure such that it cannot inadvertently get lost, while a snap-arm that is part of the end bracket traverses the correlated end claw of the retaining structure and snaps into place behind the interior front side of the end claw by means of a snap element. In order to make the exchange of a wiper blade easier, the snap-arm of the end bracket has an essentially oblong flat shape and extends flush along one longitudinal side of the head strip that is part of the wiper blade.

Abstract: There is disclosed a pressure pad used in an apparatus for cleaning the outer surface of a cylinder with a cleaning fabric. The cleaning fabric is directed between the pressure pad and the cylinder, the pressure pad having opposite side edges which are fixed in the apparatus to extend parallel to the cylinder. The pressure pad is made of elastomer and curved between the opposite side edges thereof to be convex toward the outer surface of the cylinder. The pressure pad cooperates with the cleaning fabric so that the cleaning fabric can be pressed against the outer surface of the cylinder by the pressure pad to clean the outer surface of the cylinder. The pressure pad comprises an engaged portion engaged with the cleaning fabric so that the cleaning fabric is sandwiched between the engaged portion and the cylinder to be pressed against the outer surface of the cylinder.

Abstract: A carpet extractor is disclosed having scrub brushes located behind a transparent suction nozzle, whereby the brushes are visible through the nozzle. A main frame of the extractor is formed with transparent portions adjacent to the ends of the brushes, so that he brushes are also visible from the sides of the extractor. Headlights are provided on either side of the suction nozzle for illuminating the floor adjacent to the suction nozzle. The headlights are formed so that a portion of the light emitted by the headlights passes through a transparent portion of the main frame adjacent to the brushes and illuminates the brushes for improved viewing of he brushes. The headlights are also formed so that a portion of the light emitted by the headlights passes through the edge walls of the suction nozzle and illuminates the soiled cleaning liquid traveling through the nozzle.

Abstract: A knapsack engine-driven tool driven by an engine provided on a knapsack frame consists of a supporting tool composed of a hollow tube made of a flexible rigid material, preferably of brass, whose base end is fixed onto the knapsack frame, in which the flexible rigid material can be held at a desired shape, a member for operating said engine provided on the edge portion of the hollow tube, a regulating wire which is inserted into the hollow tube for connecting said engine and said operating member, and a flexible protective member for covering said hollow tube. The knapsack engine-driven tool has a metal fixing member, preferably made of iron.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for use with a mobile air blower which allows the blower air stream to be oscillated vertically or redirected away from the work piece to avoid damage to vehicles and structure that are in the path of the air blower air stream and the apparatus provides for redirection of the air stream in forward and rearward directions.

Abstract: A door holder and stop which utilizes an elongated arm and track to retain the door in a closed position. The arm, through the use of a plate, is attached to a door frame. Pivotally and slidably connected to the arm is the track, having a return end and a closure end. The track is fixably attached to a door. Abstract: A pivot device with multiple pivotal bars for a notebook computer is disclosed. The pivot device has a main frame and multiple pivotal bars pivotally mounted on the main frame. Each pivotal bar has a positioning means mounted thereon to position each corresponding bar at a desired angle. The pivot device can be connected to several different units of the notebook computer with the multiple pivotal bars respectively.
