  • Patent number: 6256845
Abstract: This invention relates to a closable loop keeper strap for securing, storing, and transporting household, garden, and industrial items. By forming a strap from an elongated length of material having a flexible, openable, and closable keeper at one end and a hanger element at the opposite end, one can produce an improved, low-cost, re-useable load-securing strap. By folding the end of the elongated length of material, having the flexible keeper attached thereto, around a load to be secured, a user can form an adjustable and releasable noose around the load. The adjustable and releasable noose is formed when the user wraps the flexible keeper around the unfolded portion of the length of material and fastens the keeper to form a closed keeper loop. The user can then slidably position the keeper loop along the length of the elongated length of material to tighten and loosen the noose. The closable loop keeper strap can accommodate loads of varying size, shape, and weight.

  • Patent number: 6256846
Abstract: A fastening device includes a base, a first locking portion and a second locking portion. The base is received in a central slot of a heat sink for providing a spring force and attaching the heat sink to a CPU package. The first and second locking portions each form an opening for engaging corresponding projections formed on lateral edges of a socket connector. A pair of extending plates is formed on lateral edges of the second locking portion. The extending plates are folded in an “L” shape and face each other thereby forming a receiving space for receiving an external tool. A locking plate or a locking hole is formed in the second locking portion for engaging with a locking element.

  • Patent number: 6256847
Abstract: A reclosable fastener includes an insert element and a retention element. The retention element has a plurality of discrete, spaced projections extending generally orthogonally from at least one side edge of one of the opposing surfaces. At least one of the projections has a free end that includes a hook portion extending generally orthogonally from the projection toward the central longitudinal axis. The fastener operates in first and second conditions. In the first condition the fastener is open and the insert element is disengaged from the retention element, and in the second condition the fastener is closed and the insert element engages the retention element. In moving from the first condition to the second condition the insert element engages the retention element by overlaying onto the retention element and being pressed into place. In moving from the second condition to the first condition the insert element disengages from the retention element by peeling from the retention element.

  • Patent number: 6256848
Abstract: A rewind spring in a cassette for a seat belt retractor is assembled by first placing a mechanism cover on a winding jig. An arbor is fitted to a winding shaft of the jig. One end of a coiled metal bank spring is then fixed to the spring arbor. The band is then wound onto the arbor in the mechanism cover and a spring cover is fitted to the mechanism cover. Finally, a locking clip is attached to the spring cover to lock the arbor against rotation. A spring arbor for use in the cassette has a generally cylindrical shape and an axially extending slot for receiving an end of the spring. A step is provided in the profile of the cylindrical outer surface of the arbor in the region of the slot to compensate for the thickness of the band wound thereon.

  • Patent number: 6256855
Abstract: A hinge pin remover comprised of a pair of plier members, each having a jaw portion and a handle portion, wherein the plier members are pivotally connected. A circular indentation is formed in each of the jaw portions of the plier members that is configured to fit around the shaft of a hinge pin. An edge is formed in the circular indentations which can be interposed between the bottom of the head of the hinge pin and the top surface of a flange forming a channel for the hinge pin. Pivoting the jaw members together results in the edges being interposed between the hinge pin head and the flange. Subsequently, an upward force can be exerted against the hinge pin remover to remove the hinge pin. Further, a bevelled surface is formed adjacent the edges of the indentation so that the bevelled surface can be interposed between the head of the hinge pin and the flange which results in the bevelled surface exerting an outward force against the hinge pin to remove the hinge pin from the channel.

  • Patent number: 6256856
Abstract: An improved method of forming a fusion nib on a part uses a progressive die system. The method utilizes a thin feed strip of rigid, formable material and forms the nib on a side edge of the strip using multiple progressive dies. A first die shears a side edge portion of the strip to define a finger element in the side edge of the strip. A second die is then propelled horizontally into the terminal end of the finger element to form the finger element into a mounting shoulder and a small nib on the center of the mounting shoulder. A third die then blanks out the body portion of the desired piece from the strip in another vertical stamping operation. The desired piece is thus separated from the feed strip with the nib completely formed thereon.

  • Patent number: 6256858
Abstract: A silencer shim structure is mounted on a friction pad of a disc brake assembly by retaining pins which extend through the shim structure and into the backing plate for preventing dislodging of the shim structure in service. The force of the rotating action of the brake disc is at a 90° angle to the retaining pin. This 90° angle provides effective resistance to any shifting or rotation of the shim structure with respect to the backing plate during actuation of a disc brake apparatus. The retaining pin has an outer surface which is disposed substantially flush with the outer surface of the shim structure. The outer surface of the retaining pin therefore does not interfere with the positioning or functioning of an actuator piston structure, caliper structure or other disc brake structure. The flush mounting allows the system of the present invention to be used for any caliper design.

Abstract: A substrate, preferably constructed of a ductile material and a tool having the desired shape of the resulting device for contacting contact pads on a test device is brought into contact with the substrate. The tool is preferably constructed of a material that is harder than the substrate so that a depression can be readily made therein. A dielectric (insulative) layer, that is preferably patterned, is supported by the substrate. A conductive material is located within the depressions and then preferably lapped to remove excess from the top surface of the dielectric layer and to provide a flat overall surface. A trace is patterned on the dielectric layer and the conductive material. A polyimide layer is then preferably patterned over the entire surface. The substrate is then removed by any suitable process.

Abstract: A method of producing a nozzle plate for use in an ink jet head includes the steps of (a) stretching a predetermined number of resin lines, each having a cross section corresponding in shape to each nozzle hole to be formed in an ink jet head, in the same arrangement as that of nozzle holes to be formed in the ink jet head, (b) plating the peripheral surface of each of the resin lines with a metal, while maintaining the arrangement of the resin lines, (c) forming a nozzle substrate so as to include the resin lines therein with the metal used in the plating of the resin lines, (d) slicing the nozzle substrate, and (e) removing the resin lines from the sliced nozzle substrate, thereby forming the nozzle plate. In the above method, the resin lines can be removed from the nozzle substrate, and then the nozzle substrate can be sliced so as to form the nozzle plate.

Abstract: A method in which the alignment of a wheel can be easily adjusted in accordance with the characteristics of the tire, and in which a running stability appropriate for an actual road surface is obtained and a reduction in one-sided wear is achieved. A plurality of plate-like protrusions of a predetermined height are formed on the outer surface of an endless track at a predetermined distance apart in the direction of the rotation on which is rotated a wheel. When the endless track is rotated, the wheel is rotated on the tire driving surface and travels from the top surface of plate section over a step up climbing up onto the top surface of the protrusion. Next, from the top surface of the protrusion, the wheel travels over a step and descends back down onto the top surface of the plate section. This action is repeatedly executed.
