Patent number: H1995Abstract: An electric water heater has a vertically disposed tank with a cold water inlet, a hot water outlet and at least one horizontally disposed elongated immersion heating element extending into the region of the tank between an upper region and a lower region. Each heating element is surrounded by an elongated closed end tubular sleeve having a plurality of lower openings distributed along the length of the sleeve below the heating element therein and a plurality of upper opening distributed along the length of the sleeve above the heating element. The total area of the upper openings is greater than the area of the lower openings to generate upon operation of the heating element an upwardly directed transverse flow of water in a direction from the lower openings to the upper openings along the entire length of the sleeve. A thermosiphon bypass check valve connected between the cold water inlet and the hot water outlet having a bypass conduit with one or more constrictions and a closure member.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1999Date of Patent: October 2, 2001Inventor: Bernard J. Patent number: H1997Abstract: A system for concomitant scenario topography with the aid of a digital computer such that a two-dimensional or three-dimensional map is produced and displayed which illustrates the combined effects, particularly geo-environmental, of multiple, diverse criteria and factors relative to uniquely-referenced, uniform, small areas of a plane surface or the surface of a solid. The topography system employs plural interrelated tables, worksheets and mapping systems to receive, contain and apply various political, economic, scientific, and technical criteria and factors as attributes of a particular small area, and subsequently map the processed data. Each table includes at least one join field which links that table to at least one other table or worksheet. At least one worksheet includes capability for rapid, dynamic user-interaction to facilitate generation of a myriad of actual or imagined scenarios.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1997Date of Patent: October 2, 2001Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: Peter Fleischer

Patent number: RE37394Abstract: A safety vest incorporates a safety harness between a vest inner lining and a vest outer shell with attachment couplers and rings incorporated in the vest in vest pockets that store the attachment couplers and rings out of sight in communicating between harness and a lanyard external to the vest. Thus, the attachment rings are stored in vest pockets except during use, making the vest appear as a normal garment suitable for general wear off a work location or during general harness nonuse periods. Storing the rings in vest pockets also avoids the rings becoming annoyances or hazards. The harness is multiuse and versatile with attachment rings and couplers in various locations on the harness so a wearer can move between different applications, including a ring on the dorsal back for use in fall arrest, rings on waist sides so the vest can be used for work positioning, a coupler at the sternum, a ring at the waist buckle for repel attachments, and leg straps for support below the waist when required.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2000Date of Patent: October 2, 2001Assignee: Guardian Fall Protection, Inc.Inventor: Clifford Woodyard

Patent number: RE37395Abstract: A motor vehicle glazing (1) prepared for installation according to the adhesive process is provided with a profiled spacer (8) produced by extrusion of an extrudable polymer directly onto glazing (1) and subsequent setting. During installation of glazing (1) in the window opening of the motor vehicle body, profiled spacer (8) acts as an intermediate member between glazing (1) and assembly adhesive extrudate (13). Profiled spacer (8) is provided along its outer periphery with a lip portion (10) projecting beyond peripheral area (3) of glazing (1). In the installed position of glazing (1), lip portion (10) rests against the window frame flange (4) running parallel to peripheral area (3) of glazing (1) and acts, upon insertion of the glazing during the setting process of assembly adhesive (13), as a support and centering element for glazing (1).Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1998Date of Patent: October 2, 2001Assignee: Saint-Gobain Glass FranceInventors: Heinz Kunert, Gerd Cornils, Heinrich Schnitter

Patent number: RE37396Abstract: An improved method for teaching the location of a bond site on a selected lead finger of a semiconductor leadframe during a wire bonding process is provided. Initially, the location of the lateral edges and terminal edge of a tip portion of the lead finger is sensed by an automated vision system of a wire bonding apparatus. A width (W) and a longitudinal axis of the lead finger are then determined. The bond site is located along the longitudinal axis a predetermined distance of (W/2) from the terminal edge of the lead finger. The improved method allows greater accuracy in the placement of bond sites and precisely controls the length of the bond wire used during the wire bonding process.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1996Date of Patent: October 2, 2001Assignee: Micron Technology, Inc.Inventor: Rich Fogal

Patent number: RE37397Abstract: A circular flexible collet that provides a 360 degree gripping engagement with a cylindrical workpiece and which is operable by an actuator member incorporated in a workpiece chuck. The collet may be constructed as an internal collet for gripping engagement with a workpiece internal periphery, or as an external collet for gripping engagement with a workpiece external periphery. The flexible collet may be used for single, or plural workpiece gripping actions. The collet includes a split spring steel body having a radial opening split space and an outer and an inner circular periphery. One circular periphery is a workpiece gripping surface, and the other circular periphery has a tapered cam surface engageable by a workpiece chuck actuator member. The tapered cam surface has a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart slots, having an open outer end. In an internal collet the tapered cam surface is formed around the collet body inner periphery.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1999Date of Patent: October 2, 2001Inventor: Don R. Lloyd
