  • Patent number: 6301779
Abstract: A plurality of substantially similar fins is produced from the thermally conductive and formable sheet stock, for example aluminum or copper, preferably using a set of matched forming dies. Each die in the set produces a fin that is cupped in side elevation. Each fin has two flanges (in the preferred embodiment) extending from the base portion of the cup, and the fin is preferably rectangular in plan. The die cavities are substantially identical in geometry, but differ slightly in dimension so that the base portion of the cup-shaped fin-pair produced by each die in a set varies in width. Each die in the set includes a feature for producing a locating lug or dimple, or alternatively a hole, in each fin produced. The plurality of substantially geometrically identical, but dimensionally differing fin-pairs are then assembled in a nested stack in accordance with the invention.

  • Patent number: 6301793
Abstract: An equatorial sundial apparatus with an adjustable base assembly utilizing one or more concave cylindrical focusing mirrors. One of the benefits that is derived from this apparatus is the use of one or more concave cylindrical mirrors to project a focused beam of light onto a calibrated surface from which the time can be read. This sundial has the additional benefit of not suffering from blurring of the time indicator in a shadow or non-focused beam of light typical of other sundials. This sundial's focused light forms a sharply demarcated indicator from which time can be read to the minute. A further benefit of this apparatus is the ability to incorporate multiple concave cylindrical focusing mirrors to reduce the size of the visual field or screen where the time is read and to incorporate various shapes and designs for ornamental purposes without significant compromise of the sundials accuracy for telling time.

  • Patent number: 6301794
Abstract: The compass system of the present invention utilizes an improved calibration routine in which a processing circuit of the compass recalibrates the compass each time three data points are obtained from a magnetic field sensor that meet predetermined criteria. One such criterion is that the three data points define corners of a triangle that is substantially non-obtuse. When three data points have been obtained that define a triangle meeting this criterion, the processing circuit calculates a center point for a circle upon which all three data points lie by solving the equation x2+y2+Ax+By+C=0 for A, B, and C, using the coordinate values (x,y) for the three data points and defining the center point as (−A/2, −B/2).

  • Patent number: 6301797
Abstract: A method and apparatus for data disks adapted to compensate for effects of shock loads imparted to a disk drive which are of sufficient magnitude to cause disk shifts. A series of topographical features are formed on the disk surface or edge to cause signal fluctuation in a sensor during read-back mode operation. An initial signal profile is stored as a map indicative of track or disk alignment with respect to the actuator assembly. Selectively, such as after a known shock event, the topographical features are re-profiled. A comparison of the profiles provides a measure of any track distortion which must be compensated for in future read-write operations by adjustments to data track servo follower algorithms.

When the vacuum processing chambers are dry-cleaned, dummy substrates are transferred into the vacuum processing chamber by substrates conveyor means from dummy substrate storage means which is disposed in the air atmosphere together with storage means for storing substrates to be processed, and the inside of the vacuum processing chamber is dry-cleaned by generating a plasma. The dummy substrate is returned to the dummy substrate storage means after dry cleaning is completed. Accordingly, any specific mechanism for only the cleaning purpose is not necessary and the construction of the apparatus can be made simple.

  • Patent number: 6301807
Abstract: An insole device configured to fit the profile of the human foot to promote proprioceptive stimulation of the golgi tendon organ. The midfoot section of the insole device has an asymmetric domed structure that is presented to the plantar aspect of the foot at a location found to be the anatomical apex of the foot's arch system. The asymmetric domed structure displays physical properties to catalyse muscle group balancing by using the body's proprioceptive feedback mechanisms. The asymmetric domed structure displays physical properties such that it does not provide functional bracing or support to the plantar aspect of the foot. The net result will be a more structurally sound foot capable of more energy efficient and less injury inducing use.

Abstract: An earth moving and land grading machine includes a frame and road wheels mounted on the frame, with a forwardly directed device for permitting connection to a prime mover. The frame has a bin for receiving material. A rear wall is movable between a first position, in which the bin is substantially open for receiving material therein, to a second, forward position during movement for delivering the material from the bin. Movement of the rear wall between the first position and the second, forward position is via a hydraulic ram having a piston. The piston has an outer end that moves along a fixed path and is pivotally connected to an arm partway along a length thereof, so that portions of the arm on each side of the pivotable connection have unequal lengths. A first length of the unequal arm lengths has a longer length and is connected to the rear wall and the second length of the unequal arm lengths has a shorter length and is connected to the earth moving and land grading machine.

Abstract: A gun and a base unit such that the gun cannot be fired unless the gun comes in close contact with the base unit and the base unit determines that an authorized person is holding the gun and interfacing with the base unit. The base unit pre-records and stores characteristics of authorized persons and unauthorized person and compares these data with the person interfacing with the base unit. The gun must be gripped to be activated by the base unit and if it is put down, the gun is no longer capable of being fired. The base unit can use multiple means of identifying an individual and a process is described for combining the results from the multiple sources to determine if a person is an authorized person above a selectable threshold of probability. The base unit can also develop a probability that the person attempting to use the gun is a specified unauthorized person. Thresholds of being an authorized person or not being an unauthorized person can be adjusted.

Abstract: The present invention is a device that, when used properly, is useful for increasing the safety of firearms. In one embodiment, the present invention comprises a threaded aperture located in a rear position of a firearms' trigger, toward the handle. The preferred location of the aperture is located close to an upper rear corner of an exposed surface of the trigger. Inserted into the threaded aperture is a complementarily threaded barrel screw. The screw has a special keyed head. The special key configuration of the head prevents curious children from inadvertently reversing the safety mechanism. In a preferred embodiment, the keyed head has a pentagonal shaped indentation and generally centered within the indentation is an outwardly projecting guide pin. When the screw has been inserted into the aperture, there are two function positions. In a use position, the screw is contained in the trigger and does not substantially project from the trigger.
