  • Patent number: 6305095
Abstract: Described are mask-alignment detection structures that measure both the direction and extent of misalignment between layers of an integrated circuit using resistive elements for which resistance varies with misalignment in one dimension. Measurements in accordance with the invention are relatively insensitive to process variations, and the structures using to take these measurements can be formed along with other features on an integrated circuit using standard processes. One embodiment of the invention may be used to measure misalignment between two conductive layers. Other embodiments measure misalignment between diffusion regions and conductors and between diffusion regions and windows through which other diffusion regions are to be formed. A circuit in accordance with one embodiment includes row and column decoders for independently selecting mask-alignment detection structures to reduce the number of test terminals required to implement the detection structures.

  • Patent number: 6305103
Abstract: The invention provides a footwear article that may be worn in a first mode which permits easy removal, or may be worn in a second mode that provides a secure fit. The article includes an elastic region and a locking component on at least one of its sides. When worn in the first mode, the elastic region is capable of stretching which may increase the wearer's comfort and facilitates the removing the article and putting on the article on at a later time. When worn in the second mode, a fastener, such as a shoelace, is engaged with the locking component prior to tying. The engagement between the locking component and the shoelace restricts the stretching of the elastic material, thus, maintaining a tight securement of the article on the foot. A variety of footwear articles are contemplated by the invention including shoes and boots.

  • Patent number: 6305110
Abstract: A modular neon sign control system with a plurality of discrete neon letters, numbers or symbols, each with plugs to plug into at any place along a continuous electrical rail. Each neon letter, etc. is a single tube having its own driving inverter and digital decoder. Dip switches set a unique digital code into the decoder for each letter. A programmed memory controls a system encoder which sends coded signals to each decoder to compare with each letter's unique code. Those letters receiving the matching digital signals are activated or deactivated according to the program. The letters, etc. of the sign can be operated simultaneously, serially, randomly, in a pattern, or in a flashing manner. Power from an ac adapter is supplied along with the signals from the encoder to the electrical rail, and the decoder separates the power from the coded signals. • Patent number: 6305130
Abstract: A flashing assembly includes an inner lip that fits within a rough opening. Bonded to the inner lip is an outer flange that covers a portion of a wall around a rough opening. An outer flap is bonded to the outer flange and has an adhesive on its inner surface that is covered with a backing material. Once a window or other structure is installed into the rough opening, the backing material is removed and the cover flap is secured over a nailing flange. In one embodiment of the invention, the flashings are formed as L-shaped sections that may be fitted in virtually any rough opening by varying the amount of overlap on the L-shaped pieces. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the flashing assemblies are straight sections that may be used alone or in combination with the L-shaped sections.

Abstract: A metal hazardous material storage facility where the floor is divided into an upper floor, having passages therethrough, and a lower floor, located below said upper floor and which has a sloped surface. A sensor, which is coupled to a leak detection system is located at the lowest point on the lower floor. Containers of hazardous material are stored on the upper floor. As such, regardless of where the container is stored in the facility, any fluid which leaks from a container will pass through the openings in the upper floor and flow down the sloped surface of the lower floor to the sensor.

Abstract: A firestop coupling assembly (10 or 210) for allowing the passage of utility members (50 or 52) through a penetration in a partition (54 or 56) while preventing the transmission of fire and smoke through the penetration. The coupling assembly includes an outer sleeve (12 or 212) and an inner conduit (16 or 216). The outer sleeve has a concentric indention (12D or 212D) around its inner surface within which is mounted an intumescent material (20 or 220). In one (1) embodiment, the inner conduit is mounted in the open top end of the outer sleeve so that the second end (16B or 216B) of the inner conduit is adjacent the intumescent material. In another embodiment, the inner conduit is adjustable along the length of the outer sleeve. A plug (22 or 222) can be provided in at least one end of the inner conduit allowing passage of at least one (1) utility member through the assembly.

  • Patent number: 6305135
Abstract: Provided is a composite building material which is more improved in the bonding capability of a cement mortar material itself with a foamed synthetic resin plate layer, furthermore prevents the occurrences of exfoliations and cracks and has higher strength compared with conventional composite materials. Plural concave grooves are formed in parallel on at least one of the surface and backface of a foamed synthetic resin plate layer and a net-like groove lathing material corresponding to the size of each groove is arranged within each groove. A cement mortar material is filled in the groove so as to bury the groove lathing material, a net-like surface lathing material is then stretched over all of one surface and a cement mortar material is further laminated to form a composite building material in which the foamed synthetic resin plate layer and the cement mortar layer are integrated with each other.

Abstract: A reinforcing member for a structural component such as a rail or channel of a vehicle is provided which includes a carrier and a thermally expansible structural reinforcing material element which is fastened to the carrier by mechanical fixation or an adhesive. The mechanical fixation may be provided by a flange or other mechanical connection on the carrier or by a fastener such as a push pin extending through aligned holes and openings in the carrier and foamable material. The push pins are preferably of a synthetic resin material which more closely approximates the heat conductivity of the foamable material when the latter is activated by heat, and is sufficiently yieldable to absorb impacts to the foamable material during installation.

Abstract: A laminated shingle is provided, having lighter and darker granule portions visible from the front, at different planes; the front-most or anterior plane generally having granules of lighter shading and the more rearward or posterior plane generally having darker granules. The darker granules in the more posterior plane are visible from the front of the shingle to provide visually sharp, precise delineation between zones of lighter and darker shading. The shingles may be of multi-layer construction with suitable adhesives securing the layers together. The darker granules may be visible from beneath the lower edge(s) of the anterior shingle, to provide a shadow line effect. Alternatively, or in addition thereto, the darker shingle zones from the more posterior plane may be visible through tab-separating slots of the lighter shaded anterior shingle portion.

Abstract: A pole assembly that has an inner pole fitted within an outer pole. The outer pole has a larger cross section dimension that the inner pole with a space between the two poles. Sets of two lateral supporting members extend from and joined to inner pole to the outer pole. Each set of lateral supports has two cross members both of which engage the inner pole and the outer pole. The space between the poles can be filled with a deposited fill material, like water or sand, that is impact absorbing to reduce injury and damage to a driver, a colliding vehicle and the post assembly. Each of the sets of lateral supporting members has two cross members that are perpendicular to each other and joined to each of the poles. Depending on the particular use for the pole, like a utility pole, wires or cables may extend up the height of the poles in the space between them by entering through holes in the lateral supports.

  • Patent number: 6305142
Abstract: A building assembly for efficiently and economically constructing walls and roofs for a building assembly that utilizes a prefabricated building panel. The prefabricated panels utilize miter-cuts when joined, form cores, interior and exterior walls, and roofs, when placed together. The walls are pre-formed, offsite according to the required size dimensions and then transported to the job site. The panels are made essentially of a expanded polystyrene panel having cores and channels. Each building panel also includes vertically disposed parallel voids that are approximately 4 in. in diameter, spaced approximately 2 to 4 ft. apart, and receive poured concrete and steel rebar to provide structural rigidity to the entire building assembly. The poured concrete includes rebars that protrude through the entire channel and coring system and are embedded in the slab, and which may be extended above the wall height to bend and overlap the roof for added structural support.
