Abstract: Clinical studies of heart patients have demonstrated that ventricular tachyarrhythmia often is preceded by a foreshortened cardiac cycle length followed by a relatively long compensatory pause, thus producing in an abrupt short-to-long cycle length change. An implantable apparatus for preventing tachyarrhythmia measures the cardiac cycle length and detects the occurrence of a foreshortened cardiac cycle length more than a predefined amount between consecutive cycles. When a normal heart beat does not occur within a predefined period of time after such an abrupt change in cycle length, the resulting compensatory pause is eliminated by a cardiac pacer applying an appropriately timed electrical pulse to produce a contraction of the heart. The apparatus also includes a defibrillator to shock the heart in the event that the preventive pacing is not effective.

A vacuum lock chamber receives the sample supports and maintains at least one of the sample supports within a controlled environment while samples on another of the plurality of sample supports are being struck with laser pulses.

Abstract: The pressure jacket systems of the invention are used to permit the front loading and removal of a syringe from an injector and include a first jacket segment and a second jacket segment surrounding the exterior surface of the syringe, interior surfaces conformable to the exterior surface of the syringe, a mechanism which allows movement of the first jacket segment in relation to the second jacket segment to permit insertion and removal of the syringe from the pressure jacket, and a mechanism for securing the first and second jacket segments in a fixed relationship upon insertion of the syringe.

Abstract: A heuristic processor incorporates a digital arithmetic unit arranged to compute the squared norm of each member of a training data set with respect to each member of a set of centers, and to transform the squared norms in accordance with a nonlinear function to produce training &phgr; vectors. A systolic array arranged for QR decomposition and least mean squares processing forms combinations of the elements of each &phgr; vector to provide a fit to corresponding training answers. The form of combination is then employed with like-transformed to provide estimates of unknown result. The processor is applicable to provide estimated results for problems which are nonlinear and for which explicit mathematical formalisms are unknown.

Abstract: A combined pack for storing tools and apron is disclosed. It comprises a hand held outer layer, an apron inner layer, and at least one tool box. The first connecting portions and the second connecting portions are disposed on the hand held outer layer. The third connecting portions and the fourth connecting portions are disposed on the apron inner layer. So, the hand held outer layer, apron inner layer and the tool box (or two of them) can be combined together as one single pack. It not only is easy to carry, but also can save space. In addition, it is suitable to store unpacked tools, thinner tool box(s) or a thicker tool box. This invention's application scope is wide.

At the end of the condensing zone, the fiber strand is pressed with the transport belt by a nipping roller to the sliding surface. The ferrule is formed from a long strip of metal material with suitable elasticity and rigidity and having a predetermined inner diameter. By applying a compressive force on the handle portion to push the two free end portions inward relative to each other, the inner diameter of the ferrule is elastically enlarged for easily putting the ferrule around a pen. The outermost ends of the two free end portions are curved to form two small hollow cylinders, into which the clip member is detachably inserted and thereby connected to the ferrule. Abstract: A novel wire bundle bounding method that meets the requirements of aerospace specifications is disclosed as well as a novel cable tie used in the method. The method starts with a bundle of wires and the cable tie. The cable tie has a strap body and a locking head with first and second strap passages. The first and second strap passages each have a pawl that locks in the same direction. The strap body is then wrapped around at least one of the wires and then inserted through the first strap passage. Then the strap body is wrapped around the bundle and then inserted through the second strap passage. The strap body is then tightened and the residual strap portion clipped.

Abstract: The present invention provides a slider with a simple locking mechanism which allows the slider to be operated easily and exerts its locking function accurately. In the slider of this invention, a recess is made in the center of an upper wing plate of a slider body thereof and engaging posts are provided on the front and back of the slider body. Two pawl holes are provided in a bottom portion of the recess and supporting pieces are provided on the right and left sides so as to be erected. Guide grooves are provided in side walls of the recess. A pawl body comprises locking pawls provided on the right and left of a bottom face thereof in which a top face thereof is formed in a mountain shape and their phases are deviated by half pitch and guide protruding portions protruding from the side walls. A pull tab has a pintle on an end thereof and a cam is provided in the center of the pintle. A cover is a rectangular prism and has front and rear engaging holes which are capable of engaging the engaging posts.

Abstract: A release resistant buckle cover is shown having a primarily rectangular shape for engagement with a top release female buckle portion of a seat belt. A plurality of gaps are provided to provide passage of the male belt to the female buckle for engagement of the seat belt. The gaps are also used to provide passage of a thin object such as a key to be inserted through one of the gaps to compress the top release button of the female buckle to release the male belt thus disengaging the seat belt.

Abstract: A process for combining dyed or melt pigmented textile denier accent yarns in small yarn sizes, into a small building block carpet denier bundle to achieve a face yarn bundle having a wide range of special color effects and appearance, not attainable by manufacture of multi-colored carpets from carpet denier fibers alone. The carpet denier singles yarns are drawn, textured and air-jet entangled. At least one textile denier singles yarns, which is preferably a yarn having some degree of orientation, is then entangled with the carpet denier singles yarn, and the bundle is then wound up. The final yarn bundle may contain one or more fiber types, as well as at least one anti-static filament. The two types of singles yarn, i.e., the carpet denier and textile denier types, optionally have the same or different fiber cross-sections.

The strand pieces are rolled in a rolling mill associated with these continuous casters, to which the strand pieces are conducted by diverting the strand pieces into the line of the rolling mill from at least one of the continuous casters whose line does not register with the line of the rolling mill. In order to reach a higher plant availability, thermal influence of the strand pieces to be diverted is effected during the diversion of the strand pieces after their emergence from the continuous caster line and prior to their introduction into the rolling mill line while completely clearing the continuous caster lines and the rolling mill line.
