  • Patent number: 6457297
Abstract: A pouch-like container with faces made of materials having different consistencies and/or characteristics, particularly for solid, granular or fluid products. Conveniently, one of the two faces is produced from a scarcely flexible sheet, while the other face is produced from a much lighter and preferably transparent sheet in order to show the contained product. The low-flexibility face has ribs to preset a deformability and set the final shape that the container will assume. The container is manufactured by coupling, along longitudinal lines (lateral borders) and transverse lines, two sheets which are unwound continuously from two rolls. The tougher sheet is pre-ribbed along lines which force a controlled deformation, forming the container when it is filled with the product.

  • Patent number: 6457305
Abstract: A ramjet for amplifying an air stream flow rate includes a plurality of blades positioned within a turbine housing for rotation by an intake flow received through a housing inlet port. A gas generator having a primary air duct defines intake and outlet ports, the intake port receiving the intake flow from the housing. A combustion chamber is connected to the primary air duct for igniting an admixture of fuel and a portion of the intake flow to form an energized motive flow. The motive flow is discharged from the combustion chamber back into the air intake of the primary air duct so as to amplify the flow rate of incoming intake flow by momentum transfer. A portion of the motive flow is returned directly to the housing inlet port for amplifying incoming intake flow. The remaining motive flow is again combusted and used to rotate the turbine blades.

  • Patent number: 6457309
Abstract: A multifuel internal combustion Stirling engine is described, wherein a compressor piston and a displacer piston reciprocate, within a common cylinder, to enclose a variable air volume, and a variable burned gas volume. Motion of these two pistons, creates a power producing cycle, of compression, combustion, expansion, and scavenge, wherein the burned gases do not contact those cylinder portions over which the compressor piston moves. In this way low engine wear can be obtained when using fuels such as coal, which produces abrasive particulates in the burned gases. A multifuel internal combustion engine of this invention can be readily adapted to operate on a wide variety of fuels, such as, natural gas, diesel fuel, residual petroleum fuel, and coal. Widespread use of these engines would introduce economic competition between these now separately competing fuels. This is a clear route to national energy independence, since coal reserves greatly exceed petroleum reserves, nationally and internationally.

  • Patent number: 6457310
Abstract: A turbine impeller to be driven for rotation by exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine is fixed to a turbine shaft. The turbine shaft is supported by a radial bearing in radial directions and mounted to a bearing housing. The turbine shaft includes a stepped part which is formed between the turbine impeller and the radial bearing so that the outer diameter of the turbine shaft is greater at the turbine impeller side than at the radial bearing side. The bearing housing includes an oil drain for discharging oil which has lubricated the radial bearing. The distance L from a side face of the radial bearing to the stepped part is set to a value at which oil moving from an end of the radial bearing does not reach the stepped part when a turbine-revolution speed Nt is higher than that Nti which is produced by an idling operation of the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 6457315
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enhancing the power output and operational efficiency of a combustion turbine system using a combined refrigerant substantially comprising a first refrigerant and a second refrigerant, whereby the combined refrigerant exhibits a total pressure substantially greater than each respective first and second refrigerant at a temperature inside an evaporative chiller. In a preferred embodiment, the combined refrigerant cools turbine inlet air through the exchange of heat from the inlet air, in an air chiller, with a coolant which is cooled by the combined refrigerant in the evaporative chiller. The combined refrigerant, after it is used to cool the coolant in the evaporative chiller, is separated through the use of a liquid absorbent which absorbs the second refrigerant to form a solution pair. The non-absorbed first refrigerant is compressed, condensed and then recirculated to eventually join the second refrigerant which is desorbed from the solution pair in a regenerator.

  • Patent number: 6457319
Abstract: A control valve controls the pressure in a crank chamber of a compressor to change the displacement of the compressor. The compressor includes a discharge chamber, a suction chamber and a supply passage, which connects the discharge chamber to the crank chamber. The control valve regulates the supply passage. The control valve includes a valve body, a spool and a solenoid. The valve body adjusts the size of an opening in the supply passage. The spool moves the valve body in accordance with the difference between the pressure in the discharge chamber and the pressure in the suction chamber. The solenoid urges the valve body by a force, the magnitude of which corresponds to a supply of electricity. The urging force of the solenoid represents a target value of the pressure difference. The spool moves the valve body such that the pressure difference seeks the target value.

Casing glass is delivered from a second source to the chamber, such that glass flows by gravity from the first and second sources through the orifices to form the cased glass stream. A heater ring of refractory material is disposed beneath the orifice ring, and includes at least one electrical heater embedded in the refractory material of the heater ring. The electrical heater is thus disposed external to the casing glass chamber for adding heat to casing glass flowing through the chamber to the metering gap.

Abstract: In a sheet metal member having a boss which is obtained by the method of the present invention, a cylindrical portion is formed at an outer peripheral edge, thereby allowing the member to be used as a pulley for a flat belt, a V belt or a poly-V belt. According to the present invention, when the boss is to be formed, the positional accuracies of portions other than the boss with respect to the boss are improved. The present invention includes: a boring step of opening a circular hole in a circular blank; a curving step of shaping the circular blank into a projected shape; and a bending step of restricting a radially outward spread of an outer peripheral edge portion of the circular blank which has undergone the curving step, and bending an inclined portion between the outer peripheral edge portion of the circular blank and the circular hole into a recessed shape, thereby forming the case-like boss.
