Abstract: A flexible and stretchable glove made of elastomeric material, the glove having palm, back, and sleeve elements with thumb and finger portions. A plurality of corrugations at high flex points substantially parallel to the direction of the axis of flexure reduce the stress on the hand induced by tension in the elastomeric material when stretched by the bending motions of the hand, thumb and fingers. This allows the hand to assume its natural curvature and partially compensate for flexing during use. The glove is preferably resistant and impermeable to chemical and biological products. The glove provides protection for the hands and may form part of a chemical and biological protective ensemble worn by armed forces personnel when working in hazardous chemical and biological environments.

Abstract: A helmet fitting and comfort system includes an inflatable liner assembly attached to the inside of a shock attenuating member forming the inner surface of the helmet. The liner assembly is in the form of a low wave-like shape and extends between the sides of the head below the crown and around the rear. A substantially continuous upper elongated cell is formed by a liner membrane to engage the head along an engagement band in a snug fit when inflated. A lower cell extends substantially parallel to the upper cell and forms a lower band of engagement. The cells form a continuous inflation path around their ends where they are connected so that a center, inflated cross-over cell that can cause the helmet to lift up is eliminated. The bands are substantially uninterrupted to increase the holding forces on the user's head. A valve connected to one of the cells is used to activate the liner. The lower cell may include a divider with the valve positioned adjacent thereto.

Abstract: A fiber is dyed with fine powder of peels of citrus fruits, the fine powder being obtained by pulverizing dried peels of the citrus fruits. The dyeing is performed using a bath of a dye extracted from the fine powder of the peels of the citrus fruits, or performed at the same time as extracting the dye. The fine powder of the peels of the citrus fruits used in the dyeing is powder having passed a sieve of 140 to 50 mesh. In dyeing with citrus fruits which has not yet succeeded in achieving a satisfactory dyed color until now, a bright and fresh color tone specific to citrus fruits can be clearly reproduced with ease, and high mass productivity can be ensured. It is possible to provide, to dyed fiber products, not only a sufficient degree of dyed color fastness and a smell specific to citrus fruits, but also the antibacterial effect and the deodorizing effect. As a result, dyed fiber products having a highly practical value and suitably used as novel articles of clothing can be obtained.

Abstract: A conversion valve arrangement for converting a vacuum cleaner from floor use to off-the-floor use. A valve door located in the suction duct leading from the nozzle body shuts off the suction airstream to the nozzle body when the vacuum cleaner is moved into the upright stored position. A projection on the motor housing located beneath the handle engages a resilient member cooperating with a crank arm on the valve door to close the valve door when the handle is moved to the upright position. The resilient member is comprised of a front valve arm and a rear valve arm pivotally linked together. The motion of the rear valve arm is transmitted to the front valve arm in one direction by a stop. The motion of the rear valve arm is transmitted to the front valve arm in the opposite direction by the stiffness of a spring disposed between them.

Abstract: A position shifting plate for an air blowing device includes a casing having an inlet defined in an underside of the casing and an outlet defined in an end of the casing. An annular neck extends from the underside of the casing and encloses the inlet. A gap is defined between the underside of the casing and the neck. A guide member extends from the underside of the casing. A shifting plate has a netted portion and a hole. A flange extends from the shifting plate and two rails extend inward from the flange so as to be movably inserted in the gap. The shifting plate movably contacts the guide member to shift the hole or the netted portion to cover the inlet of the casing.

Abstract: A dirt collecting system for a vacuum cleaner includes a dirt cup having a dirt collecting chamber. The dirt cup is removably inserted into the housing of a vacuum cleaner. When the dirt cup is inserted into the housing, the dirt cup is fluidly connected to the suction nozzle and a suction source. The dirt cup is provided with a pivotally connected lid and a thumb tab located on the lid. The thumb tab is used to move the lid into the open position when the dirt cup is emptied. A handle is provided on the front of the dirt cup for grasping the dirt cup during removal from the vacuum cleaner housing and during emptying.

Abstract: A dirt collecting system for a vacuum cleaner includes a dirt cup formed with a course particle separation chamber and a fine particle separation chamber separated by an apertured wall. An inlet opening is formed in the dirt cup and communicates with the course particle separation chamber for inputting a stream of dirt laden air into the course particle separation chamber. A clean air outlet opening is formed in the fine particle separation chamber for allowing the filtered air stream to exit the dirt cup. The apertured wall includes a pre-filter for filtering coarse particles from a stream of dirt laden and depositing the coarse particles in the course particle separation chamber. A fine particle separation filter is positioned within the fine particle separation chamber and communicates with the clean air outlet opening. The fine particle separation filter separates fine particles from the air stream and deposits the fine particles within the fine particle separation chamber.

Abstract: A cyclonic separation device is provided having improved pressure loss characteristics. A fluid supply conduit in flow communication with an inlet to a cyclone is located and configured to extend longitudinally through a central portion of the cyclone, whereby the sharp bending of the conduit may be reduced, thereby reducing pressure losses in the device, without unduly interfering with the cyclonic flow within the cyclone. The present invention may be adapted for use with cyclonic separation devices of all types, including single- and multi-stage cyclonic separators. The cyclonic separation device may be incorporated in a vacuum cleaner such as an upright vacuum cleaner. A three dimensional conduit which is optionally used with a cyclonic separator is provided.

Abstract: A caster supporting weight through biasing means utilizes an elastomeric material, such as polyurethane, to elastomerically support the weight transmitted through the caster. The components are concisely related to each other, the elastic material is protected against damage, including excessive weight supporting forces, and in an embodiment of the invention, vertical caster adjustment is possible without affecting its elastomeric weight bearing characteristics.

Abstract: A retractable caster system comprises a rectangular, steel box defining a chamber, a plurality of which may be attached to the bottom of a storage container to elevate the container above a surface upon which it rests. Inside the chamber, a caster is mounted to a hinged plate which pivots near the bottom of one sidewall of the chamber. The plate articulates between a substantially vertical position, with the caster fully retracted into the chamber, and a horizontal position with the caster wheel protruding beneath the chamber. A coiled spring biases the plate toward a vertical position, and an automatic locking mechanism holds the caster in its extended position. The caster may be raised and lowered without separately supporting the weight of the container.

Abstract: A door closure preventing device is mounted on the inside surface of a door and has a pivotal stop moveable between a deactivated position within the periphery of the door and the extended position extending beyond the periphery of the door to prevent closure of the door. The pivotal stop is moved to its extended position following opening of the door by a user and is then released to move by a spring to an intermediate position projecting beyond the door periphery following which closure of the door results in engagement of the doorjamb by the stop to prevent complete closure. Engagement of the stop with the doorjamb also returns the stop to is fully extended position and actuates a rotary latch so that upon subsequent opening movement of the door by the user the stop is automatically returned to its fully retracted position to permit a conventional door closure apparatus to fully close the door.
