Abstract: A protective garment for a military or paramilitary firefighter or emergency worker has a shell of high visibility with trim that is reflective, fluorescent, or both, a shell of low visibility without such trim, and a moisture barrier between the shells. Being reversible, the protective garment is wearable with either shell facing outwardly and with the other shell facing inwardly. In terms of heat resistance, flame resistance, and tear strength, each shell conform to all applicable standards of NFPA 1971 for outer shells of protective clothing. In terms of thermal protection performance, the protective garment conforms to all applicable standards of NFPA 1971 for all layers of protective clothing. Desirably, the protective garment conforms to the standards of NFPA 1971, no matter which shell faces outwardly when the protective garment is worn, except that the shell of low visibility does not have trim that is reflective, fluorescent, or both.

Abstract: An upper torso garment, such as a jacket, can be folded within itself to transform it into a pillow shape. In a further embodiment, the garment bears an integral back pack, and can be transformed into either the pillow form or a wearable back pack in which the garment structure is fully contained and concealed. A flap on the inside of the back of the garment includes an integral hinge portion along part of its edge, with a first separable fastener half, e.g. a zipper, mounted to the peripheral edge of the flap; that zipper half is engageable with a second zipper half on the inside back of the garment. With the garment in its “normal” configuration, the flap is “zipped” closed, forming a containing “pocket” enclosing straps for use when the back pack is being worn. For the “pillow transformation” process, The flap is unzipped and then folded over the neck-opening from the inside of the garment to the outside.

Abstract: A garment includes a fabric having dome-shaped indentations formed therein to define air channels. The fabric includes: a first yarn preferably being a single monofilament of polyester; a second yarn preferably formed from staple or filament yarn; and a third yarn being an elastomeric yarn that provides proper stretch and recovery to enable a proper fit of the garment next to the body of the wearer. The first yarn preferably is a single monofilament of polyester. The second yarn preferably provides softness for comfort. The third yarn preferably is spandex. For certain applications of the garment, the second yarn is formed from staples of synthetic materials such as Kevlar, Nomex, or Spectra in order to provide fire retardence, cut resistance, and/or impact/ballistic protection. Abstract: A face protector includes a one piece shield in which an optical center is displaced away from the normal straight ahead line of sight toward an activity specific line of sight to minimize image shift that occurs when a direction of gaze passes across the edge of the shield. An apex of the shield is formed at a forwardmost point of the shield, or a virtual extension of the shield, when the shield is in an as worn position on a wearer. In particular examples, an optical axis extends through the optical center, at a non-zero angle to the normal straight ahead line of sight and substantially parallel to the activity specific line of sight, with the optical center being placed away from the apex. In particular examples, the optical axis is closer to (or coincident with) an activity specific line of sight of one of the right or left eye. The face protector is particularly useful in activities such as sports, for example hockey, football, or baseball which involve activity specific lines of sight.
