Abstract: A refrigerant heat pump system is operable in both heating and cooling modes. A reheat circuit is integrated into the system schematic to provide improved control over temperature and humidity and to cover a wide spectrum of sensible and latent capacity demands. In the heating mode, the reheat coil is utilized to act as a portion of the enlarged indoor heat exchanger (a condenser in this case), in order to enhance system efficiency without the capacity loss. In some cases, where the designer can choose between the efficiency and capacity augmentation, selective operation of the reheat coil may offer an additional step of capacity modulation, in the heating mode. System reliability is improved through a reduction of start/stop cycles. Although various reheat coil arrangements in relation to the indoor and outdoor heat exchangers are offered and reheat concepts are considered, the benefits of the invention are independent from and transparent to such system design features.

Abstract: In a multi-circuit heat pump system least one of the circuits has a reheat function. Various reheat concepts may be independently utilized for each circuit to reheat and dehumidify air. Moreover, the ability to bypass refrigerant around the outdoor heat exchanger may also be provided. Communication means between the circuits may be present to re-optimize the refrigerant charge and to provide better control over system operational parameters. The above mentioned control functions and design features assure system flexibility in satisfying a wide spectrum of market requirements and potential applications by operation in a variety of cooling, heating and dehumidification regimes and a combination of thereof.

Abstract: A heat pump system operates in heating and cooling modes. The heat pump is provided with both a reheat function and economizer circuit. The economizer circuit provides augmented performance to the heat pump, while the reheat coil allows enhanced control over temperature and humidity of the air supplied to the conditioned space. A bypass line around an outdoor heat exchanger is also provided to achieve additional flexibility of control for a sensible heat ratio. Selective operation of the abovementioned components and subsystems allows precise control over system operation parameters and hence satisfaction of a wide spectrum of sensible and latent load demands and improved reliability.

The system includes a tool base for receiving and supporting the sheet material in a work plane, a clamp for engaging against the sheet material to secure a portion of the sheet material relative to the tool base, a locator for positioning the sheet material relative to the tool base such that the clamp extends through the clamping aperture, and a bending arm located adjacent the clamp, the bending arm movable from an initial position located below the work plane to an upper position in order to apply an upward force against an unsecured portion of the sheet metal to effect bending of the sheet material about the fold line. A method of using the tool system for bending sheet materials is also described.

Abstract: A method to reduce the width of slots or openings in a pipe. The method involve determining the position of the slots relative to the surface of the pipe and determining the width of the slots. A signal is generated corresponding to the determined width and relative position of the slots and the signal is directed to a controller. The controller compares the determined width of the slots with a pre-determined value and identifies slots having widths greater than the pre-determined value. The exterior surface of the pipe adjacent to the slots having determined widths greater than the pre-determined value is treated through causing one or more compression tools to be moved to selectively contact the exterior surface of the pipe adjacent to the identified slots so as to selectively reduce the width of the slots.

Abstract: A method and device are disclosed for calibrating sensors, which sensors are arranged on semiconductor chips and are e.g. to be used for detecting a substance in a fluid. The sensors are calibrated while they are still assembled on a semiconductor wafer by exposing the wafer to a calibration fluid containing a known amount of the substance to be measured. Hence, rather than first cutting the wafer, the sensors are calibrated at an early stage. For this purpose, they are placed on a chuck below a lid. The calibration fluid with known parameters is introduced between the wafer and the lid. This allows to test and calibrate a large number of sensors quickly.

Abstract: Described is a method for detecting and/or for monitoring the level of a medium stored in a vessel and in particular to a method for diagnosing the functionality of the electromechanical oscillation unit of a vibration level gauge. An electromechanical transducer of the electromechanical oscillation unit of a vibration level gauge is supplied with an electric wave signal. The frequency of which is beyond the resonance frequency range of the electromechanical oscillation unit and is thus not adapted to actuate the oscillatory portion as for example an oscillating rod probe or tuning fork, so that the electric wave signal is converted into mechanical oscillations without actuating the oscillatory portion. Subsequently, the converted mechanical oscillations will be recorded using the at least one electromechanical transducer of the electromechanical oscillation unit, which reconverts the mechanical oscillations into an electric wave signal.

Abstract: A system and method for measuring fluid flow rate in a system where fluid is pumped, such as a gas monitoring instrument where gas is pumped from a space such as a room or enclosure through a conduit to a sensor. The flow of gas through a pump is determined by measuring motor back-e.m.f. which is proportional to motor speed. In a system where motor speed is regulated by pulse width modulation of the motor drive voltage, the back-e.m.f. is sampled during intervals between the drive pulses applied to the motor, and in a further aspect the sampling is done at selected, spaced-apart or infrequent intervals such as once for every ten or once for every hundred motor drive pulses. Advantageously, in an instrument that uses a microprocessor and analog-to-digital converter to measure gas-concentration, the same microprocessor and converter can provide the PWM control of the pump, in response to the back-e.m.f. generated by the pump motor between the drive pulses.

Abstract: A smoke and clean air generating machine for detecting the presence and location of leaks in a fluid system (e.g. the evaporative or brake system of a motor vehicle). A source of gas (e.g. air or nitrogen) under pressure is delivered to a smoke generating apparatus or to a flow meter by way of a multi-position selector valve. With the selector valve in a first position, gas is delivered to the system under test via the flowmeter to detect the presence of a leak in need of repair depending upon the reading of the flow meter. With the selector valve in a second position, gas is delivered to the smoke generating apparatus so that smoke can be supplied to the system under test to locate the leak. With the selector valve in a third position between the first and second positions, pressure is bled from the machine to disable the smoke generating apparatus and thereby terminate the production of smoke.

An ultrasonic transmitter generates ultrasound energy of a specified frequency within the compartment, and one or more ultrasound sensors outside the volume detect the presence and amplitude of ultrasound energy at the specified frequency. Alternatively, the transmitter can be configured to generate ultrasound energy outside the compartment, and the sensors can be arranged to detect ultrasound energy within the compartment. The detected energy level is compared to a calibrated threshold, and a leak indication is generated if the threshold is exceeded.
