Publication number: 20070144140Abstract: A chemical hybrid propulsion motor can be comparable in performance to a solid motor or liquid fueled engine if it uses cryogenic nitrous oxide as its oxidizer and a pump such as a turbopump to transfer the oxidizer into the motor case. Cryogenic nitrous oxide (at about ?100° F.) has high density which will reduce oxidizer tank volume and weight and this oxidizer combusts at a high oxidizer to fuel (O/F) ratio which minimizes motor case size and weight. The high O/F would also reduce unburnt fuel sliver and hence residual propellant weight. The pump not only transfers the oxidizer into the motor at increased chamber pressure that in turn increases specific impulse, but it also significantly reduces oxidizer tank pressure and weight as compared to a pressure fed motor.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2005Publication date: June 28, 2007Inventors: Martinus Sarigul-Klijn, Nesrin Sarigul-Klijn

The ECU changes a degree of richness of the air/fuel ratio at a time of performing the rich purge based on a state of the NOx catalytic converter.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2006Publication date: June 28, 2007Applicant: DENSO CORPORATIONInventors: Masakuni Yokoyama, Jun Kawamura

Publication number: 20070144145Abstract: A diagnostic apparatus for an internal combustion engine is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the diagnostic apparatus comprises a catalytic converter and a controller. The catalytic converter is disposed in an exhaust passage of an engine and treats an exhaust gas component in the exhaust gas. The controller is adapted to perform a number of functions. More specifically, the controller is adapted to operate the engine with an engine control parameter to increase catalyst temperature of the catalytic converter during a cold engine condition. The controller is further adapted to calculate a temperature factor indicative to temperature increase of the catalyst based on the engine control parameter. The controller is further adapted to estimate the amount of the exhaust gas component flowing out of the catalytic converter based on the temperature factor.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2006Publication date: June 28, 2007Inventors: Rie Takatsuto, Hiroshi Katoh

Publication number: 20070144146Abstract: An ECU performs exhaust temperature control based on output values of multiple exhaust temperature sensors provided upstream and downstream of a particulate filter provided in an exhaust passage of an engine. The ECU calculates a change speed deviation value by subtracting change speed of outlet side exhaust temperature, which is sensed by one of the exhaust temperature sensors, from change speed of inlet side exhaust temperature, which is sensed by the other one of the exhaust temperature sensors, in an operation state in which temperature of exhaust gas flowing through the particulate filter changes rapidly. The ECU determines that the exhaust temperature sensors are mounted erroneously if the change speed deviation value deviates from a predetermined normal range.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2006Publication date: June 28, 2007Applicant: DENSO CORPORATIONInventor: Hideyuki Kusatsugu

Publication number: 20070144149Abstract: A system for controlled regeneration of a lean NOx trap for an internal combustion engine. The system may include regenerating one trap or a portion of a lean NOx trap while using another trap or portion of the lean NOx trap for an exhaust, and then interchanging operations. The portions may be individual structures or of one structure. The trap may be a rotating element that is regenerated in part at a time. There may be valves that direct the exhaust gas through one trap and regeneration gas through another trap and vice versa. Also, an exhaust system with regeneration may include temperature, pressure, NOx and differential pressure sensors. A processor may be connected to the sensors. There may be emission sampling lines connected to different parts of the system and to a collector to take, store, detect and analyze samples. A processor may be connected to the collector.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 28, 2005Publication date: June 28, 2007Applicant: HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventors: Soumitri Kolavennu, Syed Shahed

Publication number: 20070144153Abstract: This catalyst system simultaneously removes ammonia and enhances net NO, conversion by placing an NH3-SCR catalyst formulation downstream of a lean NOx trap. By doing so, the NH3-SCR catalyst adsorbs the ammonia from the upstream lean NOx trap generated during the rich pulses. The stored ammonia then reacts with the NOx emitted from the upstream lean NOx trap-enhancing the net NOx conversion rate significantly, while depleting the stored ammonia. By combining the lean NOx trap with the NH3-SCR catalyst, the system allows for the reduction or elimination of NH3 and NOx slip, reduction in NOx spikes and thus an improved net NOx conversion during lean and rich operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 9, 2007Publication date: June 28, 2007Applicant: FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventors: Haren Gandhi, John Cavataio, Robert Hammerle, Yisun Cheng
