Abstract: The present invention is directed toward fire-rated wall construction components for use in building construction. The invention provides wall components and systems which have fire-retardant characteristics, as well as wall components which allow for needed ventilation in a building throughout times when no fire is present. Embodiments include tracks for holding studs which incorporate various geometries capable of receiving intumescent material. When the intumescent material becomes hot, it expands rapidly and fills its surrounding area, blocking fire, heat, and smoke from traveling to other areas of a building.

Abstract: A thin-walled porous ceramic wall-flow filter is disclosed. The filter produces a relatively lower pressure drop coupled with relatively high initial filtration efficiency (FE0), and may enable packaging the filter in a smaller volume. The filter includes a plurality of porous ceramic walls forming cell channels. At least some of the cells are plugged forcing some exhaust gases through the walls, thereby filtering out entrained particulates. The walls have a wall thickness (Twall) wherein 102 ?m?Twall<279 ?m, and a median pore diameter (MPD), and wherein 10<Twall/MPD, and may also be <40. The relatively small median pore diameter (MPD) in comparison to the wall thickness (Twall) allows the use of thinner ceramic walls that provide less flow resistance than thicker walls while maintaining sufficient initial filtration efficiency (FE0). Furthermore, such thin-walled filter structure coupled with unequal inlet/outlet area ratio (Ai/Ao) may allow filter lengths to be additionally shortened.

Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for generating energy. The method, system and apparatus can include the generation of exhaust gases in a first cylinder of an internal combustion engine and the transportation of the exhaust gases from the cylinder to a chamber. The method, system and apparatus may also have the steps of storing the exhaust gases in the chamber and transporting the exhaust gases from the chamber to a second cylinder. Further, the method, system and apparatus may allow for pushing, by pressure supplied by the exhaust gases transported to the second cylinder, a piston in the second cylinder to a bottom portion of the second cylinder and the generating of a vacuum through the cooling of the exhaust gases in the second cylinder. Additionally, the method, system and apparatus can have steps for pulling, by the vacuum, the piston to a top portion of the second cylinder and releasing the exhaust gases from the second cylinder.

Abstract: A NOx absorbent is arranged in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine, and a fuel supply valve (28) is arranged in the exhaust passage upstream of the NOx absorbent. If the temperature of the NOx absorbent is lower than a predetermined temperature when the NOx must be released from the NOx absorbent, the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas flowing through the NOx absorbent is first switched from a basic lean air-fuel ratio to and maintained at a lean air-fuel ratio with a lower leanness for a predetermined lean time, and is then switched to a rich air-fuel ratio. If the temperature of the NOx absorbent is higher than the predetermined temperature when the NOx must be released from the NOx absorbent, the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing through the NOx absorbent is switched to the rich air-fuel ratio without being switched to the lean air-fuel ratio with a lower leanness.
