Publication number: 20100043315Abstract: A network of straps is placed over a framed structure and roof decking and secured to the foundation. A tensional force is applied to the straps. The tensioned straps are then secured at strap crossing points, the roof decking, roof structural members and wall structural members. The method also provides special treatment for straps crossing apex ridges or valleys of the structure's roof. Additional framing blocks are included under the roof decking to accommodate fastening the straps to the primary structural members. The runner straps pass through slits cut into roof decking near where the sidewalls attach to the roof joists and rafters. An added framing member or supporting structural device is also installed above the top plate of the stud wall to support the roof decking as tension is applied to the straps. The method calls for determining standard strap spacing based on the design resistance required to counter external forces that could be encountered at the construction location.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2008Publication date: February 25, 2010Inventors: David J. Publication number: 20100043316Abstract: An improved building structure and method for making steel frame buildings includes a beam-to-column or beams-to-column joint or connection which is most preferably shop fabricated (as opposed to on-site fabrication) and which offers a considerable savings in both steel requirements (i.e., material savings) and labor to make the joint connection. Also, because material utilization is improved in the connection, the new structure is more resistant to damage by seismic events (i.e., earthquake), by severe weather, and to damage from blast effects (i.e., terrorist attack or accident), than was the prior technology. The improved building structure also mitigates against progressive collapse of the building.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 21, 2008Publication date: February 25, 2010Inventor: Jesse E. Karns

Publication number: 20100043317Abstract: The invention is a damper and a method for protecting buildings and similar structural systems from dynamic loading such as loading caused by earthquakes, strong winds or machine vibrations. More specifically, the damper is made from structural members being interconnected in frictional or visco-elastically dampened rotational joints. Due to the dampening of the joints, relative movement between the structural elements is dampened. In particular, the damper is useful for base isolation, e.g., in order to allow a building or a machine to move in a dampened movement relative to its foundation or in order to allow a cable stay of a cable stay bridge to move in a dampened movement relative to its fixation point on the bridge.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 20, 2009Publication date: February 25, 2010Inventor: Imad H. The heating section heats the contact section to perform longitudinal sealing of the overlapped portion to form a longitudinal seal portion. The receiving member abuts against the contact section with the overlapped portion of the packaging material being disposed therebetween. The contact section, the heating section, and the receiving member are arranged such that an amount of heat per unit time applied to the packaging material from the contact section decreases in a direction toward both sides of the longitudinal seal portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2007Publication date: February 25, 2010Applicant: ISHIDA CO., LTD.Inventors: Satoshi Hashimoto, Masahiko Tatsuoka, Yukio Sasaki

Publication number: 20100043353Abstract: The invention is an inflatable mailer having a liner that can be inflated at the point of use. The liner includes a series of inflatable chambers that are in fluid communication with a common channel. A controlled volume of gas is disposed in the liner. The gas is sufficient to inflate the common channel but is not sufficient to appreciably inflate the inflatable chambers. As a result, the inflatable mailer is in a relatively compact state. The invention includes an apparatus for inflating the mailer. The apparatus includes a nip for moving the controlled volume of gas into the common channel; an inflation nozzle adapted to pierce the inflated common channel and introduce a second portion of gas into the liner until the liner is inflated to a desired level; and a sealing device to seal the inflated liner.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2009Publication date: February 25, 2010Inventors: Vincent A. Publication number: 20100043356Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed wherein, following the introduction of a series or string of interconnected bags (2), a number of bags belonging together are automatically deposited in trays (3) in zigzag fashion, physically separated from each other, or automatically wound onto reels (12). Readable information is printed on the bags, which information indicates that the bags belong together, because their contents, usually medicinal tablets, are intended for the same entity. Said entity may for example be persons or animals in a particular department or on a particular floor level of a home for the elderly, a nursing home, a hospital. Said entity may also be a single person or a group of patients who regularly need specific medicines, frequently in exactly the prescribed order and at exact points in time. The medicines in the distributed trays or on the reels can thus be made available to the patients in an individualised manner and in the correct order.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2008Publication date: February 25, 2010Applicant: DIJKSTRA VEREENIGDE BEDRIJVEN B.V.Inventor: Minne Jorritsma

Publication number: 20100043357Abstract: A system having an upstream module M for storing cardboard blanks, a central module C with a device for taking the blanks from the magazine, and a downstream packing and packaging module V having a station where the blanks are erected. The extractor arm is mounted on a carriage which is movable so as to move the blanks lengthwise and the arm is movable relative to the carriage by an actuating mechanism which enables the arm to articulate about an axis. The distance D between the exit edge of the magazine and the reference point of the station is fixed, and the carriage controls the movements of the blank extracted from the magazine in order to avert the risk of interference with the magazine and to position the blank in the station to enable it to be erected, and this for a whole range of forms of blanks.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2007Publication date: February 25, 2010Applicant: SIDEL PARTICIPATIONSInventors: Bernard Kobierzycki, Yannick Petijean

Publication number: 20100043361Abstract: A structurally supportive therapeutic horseshoe comprised of an outer shoe portion and an inner structural stabilizer portion, with the outer shoe being formed from a material that is softer than the structural stabilizer. The outer shoe, one side of which is fitted adjacent to the horse's hoof, and the other side of which comes into contact with the ground, is more insulating than the metal used in a traditional shoe, and helps to maintain the natural temperature of the hoof, while acting as a shock absorber and providing a soft surface upon which the hoof can rest. The therapeutic stabilizer is designed to support each of the structural components of the hoof and foot, including the walls of the hoof, as well as the arch of the foot, while stabilizing the hoof on the ground and in motion, side-to-side, as well as when in the air.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2009Publication date: February 25, 2010Inventor: Gwen Ann Justis
