Abstract: A protective pad includes a pre-tensioned resilient padded membrane resiliently suspended to a semi-rigid shell. A cavity is defined between the pre-tensioned padded membrane and the shell. In use, the pad is attached to the limb or joint to be protected with the tensioned membrane engaging the limb or joint to be protected. The pre-tensioned membrane and air cushion in the cavity absorb the energy of an impact transferred by the shell during a sporting event or other activity.

A communication medium of various forms is integrated into a garment seam that is used to join two or more portions of a garment. The communication media can be used to provide electrical or other electromagnetic connection for coupling among a plurality of electrical devices associated with the garment. Accordingly, the electrical garment can be configured for a plurality of uses, applications and environments, depending on the electrical devices associated therewith. The electrical devices can be configured to be attached to or integrated with the garment in a releasable fashion or in a more permanent configuration. The electrical devices can be chosen for their desired functionality and interconnected with the communication media, which is at least partially integrated within the garment seams. Additional embodiments provide an electronic connector suitable for use with seams incorporating electronic wiring.

The design layout therefore constitutes a folding bunk with a support frame for placement of a mattress, a folding axis that is arranged on a first side of the support frame for pivoting the folding bunk, and a ladder mounted on the second side of the support frame opposite the first side. The ladder is mounted on the support frame in such a way that it can only pivot on a pivot axis parallel to the folding axis and has no other degrees of freedom. The apparatus may allow for continuous collection of human waste products while maintaining the patient in a comfortable position. The apparatus may further facilitate preventing human waste products from contacting the skin of the patient, thereby substantially reducing the occurrence of pressure ulcers. Additionally, the apparatus may reduce the need for the use of Foley catheters for incontinence management, thereby reducing the occurrence of urinary tract infections related to such use.
