  • Patent number: RE42089
Abstract: A novel process of visual calibration of a computer display or the like in volves adjusting the appearance and relative appearance of targets and su targets displayed on the display. An objective method is provided for determining the precisely optimal brightness setting for CRT displays, which method is also applicable to the setting of the “Black Level” control on some FPDs. A precise method is provided to visually determine conformity of a display's tonality to a given standard tone curve, for example a gamma 1.8 curve, which is embodied in one of the preferred calibration target sets. The need to sense and therefore be able to control and to verify the correct gray balance of the entire tone scale of the display is met. The problem of verifying the similarity of the tone curve in the display profile and that of the actual calibration is solved. By converting a preferred RGB gamma target into CIE Lab image data through an ideal display profile of the correct gamma, a new kind of target is taught.

  • Patent number: RE42090
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for sensing the presence of bright white paper on a conveyor of a paper sorting system. The conveyor is constantly illuminated with ultraviolet light. When bright white paper is present in the inspection zone of the conveyor, it will re-radiate fluorescent light energy as a result of the ultraviolet light. Periodically, the inspection zone of the conveyor is illuminated with a second light source in the visible light spectrum. Light is collected from the inspection zone of the conveyor, including reflected light from the secondary source and including emitted fluorescent light energy as a result of the ultraviolet light falling on bright white paper. Periodically a microprocessor associated with the sensor senses reflected light from the second source to determine whether any object if present on the conveyor. The microprocessor then senses the level of fluorescent light energy being emitted from any object on the conveyor.

  • Patent number: RE42106
Abstract: A digital data file encryption system and method where digital data encrypted to a high level and an encryption key are received and stored in a computer. The stored, encrypted digital data is decrypted on the basis of the encryption key and stored in a buffer of a predetermined size. Output digital data from the buffer is reencrypted to a low level of encryption and downloaded to a digital data playing device or a data storage medium. Therefore, a digital audio or video data file is prevented from being diverted in unencrypted form from a computer communication network when it is transmitted to a personal computer through the computer communication network and, in turn, downloaded to the digital data playing device. Further, the digital data playing device is prevented from rising in cost due to the use of simple encryption for data downloaded to the playing device.

Abstract: An improved collar mechanism and method of use for the securing of reusable gowns typically used in health care settings around the neck of a user without the need to secure with ties, tabs, snaps or other securing devices. The collar mechanism is made of a stiff material that is pliable enough to move without fracture when force is applied but with a sufficient memory that allows the collar to return to its original position once the force is removed or when modeled as such.
