  • Patent number: RE42386
Abstract: A system for monitoring the level or amount of a material within a container is provided. The system includes a detection mechanism that can be a direct detection mechanism or any of a number of indirect detection mechanisms. When the detection mechanism senses an upper level of the substance in the container that is below a predetermined lower limit for the substance, the mechanism operates an alarm mechanism to emit an audible and/or visible alarm to alert an individual to the low level of the substance within the container. The alarm mechanism can be integrally formed with the detection mechanism, or can be spaced from the detection mechanism in order to provide a more accessible point for the viewing or hearing of the alarm emitted by the alarm mechanism.

  • Patent number: RE42387
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for compensating the non-linearity of a sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter (A2) with quantization at N levels comprising a digital-to-analog converter (24). The method comprises a calibrating step which consists in transforming the multibit sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter (A2) into a sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter with quantization at three levels, then at two levels. The correction values of each level to be corrected are accurately measured. The method also comprises a normal functioning phase which consists, when the sigma-delta an analog-to-digital converter (A2) is operating with quantization at N levels, in producing an instantaneous correction of errors of the analog-to-digital converter (24) using said correction values.

  • Patent number: RE42390
Abstract: In a sound signal playback machine and method thereof, predetermined high frequency components are extracted from sound signals SL to SC of a main channel by high frequency pass filters 21 to 25, and these high frequency components are respectively played back by speakers. At the same time, predetermined low frequency components are extracted from sound signals SL to SC of the main channel by low frequency pass filters. These low frequency components and sound signal SLFE exclusively used for the low frequency band are added to each other, and the thus obtained addition signal is played back by the speaker 66. In this case, the degree of the low frequency pass filters is set higher than the degree of the high frequency pass filters, and the high frequency component is delayed.

  • Patent number: RE42392
Abstract: Reject code handling is utilized for a more time-efficient selection of data-capable networks. One illustrative method for use in selecting a wireless communication network for communications involves the steps of causing a request for data connectivity to be transmitted through a first wireless network; reattempting the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network one or more times if a reject code comprising a non-critical error is received in response to the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network; and attempting to select a second wireless network for communications without reattempting the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network one or more times if a reject code comprising a critical error is received in response to the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network.

  • Patent number: RE42396
Abstract: A garbage collection method that distinguishes between local objects and managed objects, and between an ordinary pointer to an object, an owning pointer to an object, and a non-owning pointer to an object is presented. Ordinary pointers point only to local objects, and owning and non-owning pointers point only to managed objects. Managed objects have attributes including a count of the number of owning pointers referring to them, and a linked list of non-owning pointers referring to them. Managed objects only possess non-owning pointers. Only an invocation of a subroutine within a thread can possess an owning pointer. Using this method, when an invocation exits, its exit code gives up ownership of all objects it owned. When an object is no longer reachable from any owning pointer, either directly, or indirectly through non-owning pointers, the object is immediately de-allocated.

  • Patent number: RE42399
Abstract: A method of converting audio data encrypted for anti-piracy and copyright protection to a suitable format so that the data can be played in a portable device. A computer first decrypts the encrypted audio data and inserts information for setting equalizer, then encrypts the audio data lightly with the information for setting equalizer and transmits the data to a portable device. The portable device sets equalizer suitable to the lightly-encrypted audio data using the information for setting equalizer inserted by the computer, then decrypts the lightly-encrypted audio data, and outputs the decrypted audio data while amplifying or attenuating audio data for each band according to the set equalizer. Therefore, heavily encrypted audio data can be playable in a portable device with relatively low computing power and, by setting equalizer mode suitable to a music genre, the audio data can be conveyed to a listener authentically.

  • Patent number: 7945974
Abstract: A convertible sofa-bed which is easy to convert between a sofa configuration and a bed configuration is provided. From a sofa configuration, a buttock-foot member may be pulled outward. Simultaneously, a head rest member and back rest member which are initially at a generally vertical position are traversed to a generally horizontal position. When the buttock-foot member is fully traversed outward (i.e., extended position), the head rest member, back rest member and the buttock-foot member are generally substantially co-planar and generally horizontal. This provides a firm bed surface upon which a person may comfortably sleep. From the bed configuration, head rest member and the back rest member may be buckled to allow the buttock-foot member to be pushed inward. The buttock-foot member is then pushed fully inward (i.e., retracted position) until the head rest member and the back rest member are in the generally vertical position.

  • Patent number: 7945979
Abstract: A mattress with airflow-circulating function has a main body and a ventilator. The main body has a crisscross groove formed in the main body. The ventilator is detachably connected with the main body and has a hollow joint, four extending tubes and a curved tube. The joint has five openings. The extending tubes are respectively and securely connected to four of the openings of the joint to form a cross and are mounted in the groove. Each extending tube has multiple apertures formed in the extending tube. The curved tube is securely connected to the other one of the openings of the joint and is mounted through the main body. Accordingly, air can be pumped into the joint and is ejected out from the apertures toward the part of the human body.
