Abstract: A die (13, 213, 313) is supported in a die holder (381) such as a frame or an adapter (18, 518) supported in a frame such that it is operational use in a material deforming operation. One or both of the die and the die holder have at least one gas passage which is substantially closed by at least part of the die. Gas such as pressurised air is directed into an end of the gas passage opposite the die via a hose (42, 542) connected to a gas source. If the die is broken or loose leak paths are available for the escape of gas past the die to or from atmosphere. A pressure sensor (41) connected to the hose detects the change in pressure of the gas and the magnitude of that pressure is used to determine the die condition. Alternatively a flow rate sensor is used to detect a change in the flow rate of the gas in order to determine the condition of the die.

The voltage output by the gas sensor is received by an integrated circuit (“IC”). The IC may convert the voltage to a digital representation of the voltage. The IC may determine a property of the gas based on the voltage. The digital representation of the voltage or a representation of the property of the gas is then transmitted as data via an audio jack of the sensor device. A computer device receives the data via an audio jack. Using one or more processors, the computer device analyzes the data and generates a recommendation. Two factors, in which one is early detection of discharge, and the other is early detection of mechanical vibration and abnormal displacement, are considered. When abnormality of any one of these factors is emerged, it is demonstrated that hidden trouble is presented. Here, acoustic energy feature is used to perform real-time, online monitoring.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for the non-destructive testing of a test object by means of ultrasound. The device comprises a control unit provided for driving a phased array ultrasonic test probe and a display. The control unit is configured to operate the phased array test probe in the pulse echo operation and to control the insonification angle ? of the phased array test probe into the test object. The pulse echo from the test object received by the phased array test probe is analyzed by the control unit, wherein the control unit generates an A-scan or/and a B-scan of a received pulse echo on the display. The invention further relates to a method for operating such a device and a method for the non-destructive inspection of a test object by means of ultrasound in accordance with the TCG method, using a phased array ultrasonic test probe.

Abstract: A pressure sensor device and its use for confirming achievement of a selected pressure in a high pressure process (HPP) for sanitizing food is disclosed. The device includes at least a base and a sheet, each of which is substantially impermeable to the working fluid of the HPP and is deformable at the selected pressure. Microcapsules interposed between flat overlapping portions of the base and sheet contain a color former and burst upon pressurization of the environment surrounding the device. Release of the color former is detected to confirm that the pressurization occurred. The device can be associated with one or more foodstuffs (e.g., a packaged food product or a group of such packages) and remain associated therewith to continuously indicate that the foodstuff(s) have been subjected to the selected pressure and are therefore sanitized.

Abstract: A manometer comprises a manometer body with an indicating scale with graduated markings of pressure units and a safety vent, a plunger with a annular groove and a tinted O-ring a cap mount, a primary box spring and an auxiliary box spring. By means of the tinted O-ring and the indicating scale with graduated markings of pressure units, the manometer innovatively functions as indication of air pressure measured. By means of the primary box spring and auxiliary box spring, the manometer precisely measures overall air pressure in combination of coarse air pressure variation responded by the primary box spring and fine air pressure variation responded by the auxiliary box spring. By means of the safety vent disposed on the peripheral of manometer body and the tinted O-ring on the plunger, the manometer provides a safety proactive means for input compressed air.

Abstract: A subsea retrievable pressure sensor for measuring fluid pressure at a well or other subsea fluid system. In one embodiment, a pressure sensor assembly includes a subsea pressure housing, a first pressure sensor, an electrical connector, a first hydraulic connector, and a latching mechanism. The first pressure sensor is disposed within the housing, and the electrical connector and first hydraulic connector are disposed in wall of the housing. The electrical connector is electrically coupled to the first pressure sensor to communicate electrical power though the housing to the first pressure sensor and to communicate pressure measurement values from the first pressure sensor through the housing. The first hydraulic connector is hydraulically coupled to the first pressure sensor to communicate hydraulic pressure to the first pressure sensor through the housing. The latching mechanism extends through the housing to secure the housing to a subsea receptacle.

Abstract: In a method for determining the flow rate of fluids using the ultrasonic transit time method, the flow speed and therefrom the flow rate of the fluid is determined from the transit time of ultrasound signals through the measurement section. In order to take into account the change in the transmission function of the ultrasonic converters, which change acts as a drift of the measurement variable, the transmission function of the measurement section is determined at least approximately, and at least one ultrasonic transit time is corrected by means of a correction value that is determined from the group transit time of the transmission function.

Abstract: The invention relates to an ultrasonic flow meter arranged to measure a flow rate of a liquid, the flow meter comprises a flow tube 2, optionally a measurement insert, and two or more ultrasonic transducers 8 which are arranged in transducer inserts 20 to be inserted into the flow tube through openings in the flow tube. The transducer inserts are formed monolithically with the housing as a part of the bottom of the housing. The transducer inserts are in a mount position inserted through the openings in the flow tube to extend into the flow passage so that the surface 15 of the transducer inserts protrude into the flow passage. In this manner, gas bubbles, such as air bubbles, released from the flowing liquid will not rest in front of the transducer insert irrespectively of the orientation of the flow meter in the pipe installation.

Abstract: A flow meter is disclosed which comprises a flow pipe for measuring consumption of a fluid passing there-through irrespective of flow direction. The flow pipe comprises a central segment and two edge segments, each located at a different side of the central segment so that the three segments form a continuous passage for the passing fluid. The flow meter is configured to enable flow of the fluid via an aperture to/from the central segment from/to a respective edge segment, while each of the edge segments has an inner diameter greater than that of the respective aperture enabling the flow from/to that edge segment to/from the central segment. The flow meter further comprises three pressure meters, each configured to enable measuring static pressure of the fluid flowing through a respective segment, thereby enabling to determine forward and backward fluid flows through the flow pipe.

Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring cutting forces in a peripheral end milling process are disclosed. The systems and methods comprise a sensor module that integrates a thin-film Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) piezoelectric strain sensor and an in situ data logging platform for monitoring such cutting forces. The module, which may be mounted on the tool shank, measures the dynamic strain(s) produced in the tool and logs the data into an on-board card for later retrieval. The close proximity between the signal source and the PVDF sensor(s) minimizes the attenuation and distortion of the signal along the transmitting path and provides high-fidelity signals. Further, the module facilitates the employment of a first-principles model based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the constitutive equations of the piezoelectric sensor material to relate the in situ-measured PVDF sensor signals to the feed and transverse forces acting on the tool.
