Abstract: Technology capable of suppressing performance variation for each flow sensor and enhancing the performance is provided. According to a flow sensor of an embodiment, a local cavity CAV is provided on an upper surface SUR (MR) of a resin MR to generate an eddying current in a counterclockwise direction, so that an advancing direction of gas (air) that collided to an exposed side surface of a semiconductor chip CHP1 can be changed to an eddying direction instead of a direction toward an upper side of the semiconductor chip CHP1 differing by 90 degrees. Therefore, according to the flow sensor of the embodiment, the flow of the gas (air) at an upper side of the flow sensing unit FDU can be stably made smooth without being disturbed, whereby a flow sensing accuracy in the flow sensing unit FDU can be enhanced.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a flowmeter comprising a piezoelectric sensor. The flowmeter is configured so that fluid flow through a channel, typically either a fluid conduit or a housing in which the sensor is oriented, produces oscillating stresses in a piezoelectric material. The oscillating stresses produce an electric signal. Characteristics of the electric signal, such as the magnitude of the signal at particular frequencies, can be measured and used to determine the rate of fluid flow through the channel.

Abstract: This invention presents a Pitot tube design and methodology for determining the flow characteristics of fluids in subsonic and supersonic flow, including the effects of viscosity and turbulence. A new methodology, the Two-Fluid Theory, is developed which treats a real fluid as being composed of two ideal fluids: an inviscid fluid and a Poiseuille fluid. The resulting expression for flow velocity is applicable to a real fluid of any viscosity and to pipes of any L/D ratios, including entrance effects. Two designs, comprising annular, smooth-bore tubes, with devices for measuring total and static pressures, are presented: one for incompressible flow; one for compressible, supersonic flow. Allowance is made for the viscous component of the flow to become fully developed, in accordance with the Theory.

Abstract: Three spinning ring rotors, functioning as concentric ring gyro motors, are angled at ninety degrees with respect to one another and are arranged in an orthogonal association inside a substantially spherical housing that includes a central hub with a plurality of spokes attached to the spherical housing with holes for the spokes and coils used for steering. The mass distribution for the rings is such that the rotating ring masses are maximized and the containing mass is minimized. There is minimum friction for the primary rotation of the spinning ring rotors with all other angular forces translated across the containment structures uniformly. These spinning masses remain equal, unless the influence of precisely controlled and oriented destabilizing steering coils are used to disrupt the stability of one or more rotors by placing a controllable and varying magnetic field, from weak to strong, parallel to the axis of the spinning rotors.

The generated slag-metal mixture (21) is tapped off from the reduction furnace (18), cooled, crushed and ground to a finer size. Finally, a metal fraction (26) is separated from a clean slag (25).

Abstract: A self-centering and self-gripping corkscrew is provided. A centering and locking mechanism is integrated into the bottle receiving opening of the corkscrew such that in one downward motion a bottleneck is securely gripped and automatically centered under the cork removing device (e.g., a worm screw). The centering and gripping mechanism is spring biased downward and utilizes compression techniques configured into an outer mechanism (contained within the bottle receiving opening of corkscrew) and the body of the corkscrew to simultaneously grip and align the bottle with the axis of the cork removing device. The locking mechanism is part of the centering mechanism and allows the corkscrew to remain locked onto the bottleneck (after centering and gripping) during activation of the cork removing device and removal of the corresponding cork. An upward motion opposite the locking motion disengages the mechanism, removing the corkscrew from the bottle.
