  • Publication number: 20150223547
Abstract: A protective helmet can reduce the likelihood of a player sustaining a brain injury while engaging in a contact sporting event. The helmet can include a hard outer shell with exterior and interior surfaces. The helmet can include an impact-absorbing layer adjacent to the interior surface of the outer shell. The impact-absorbing layer can have a base layer and flexible raised portions extending from the base layer toward the interior surface of the outer shell. During a collision with another player, the flexible raised portions can topple over to allow the outer shell to rotate relative to the impact-absorbing layer. The flexible raised portions can topple over and increase the duration of a collision, thereby reducing the peak rotational acceleration experienced by the player's head's center of gravity and, in turn, reducing the likelihood of the player sustaining a brain injury from the collision.

Abstract: A running shoe design focused on the heel section of running shoes used in, for example, T2 transition phase of the sport of triathlon. A heel counter portion of the shoe is a retractable flap. The flap retracts to an open position at a 45 to 90 degree angle awaiting the unhindered insertion of the runner's foot without any need for the runner to bend or sit. Immediately after the foot is inserted, the flap is closed with a pressing forward action by the athlete's other foot. The flap and the sides of the shoe are coated with adhesive, velcro-like materials. A variation of the foregoing uses a heel counter cut from the center top to the midsole area at the bottom, resulting in an acceptable size opening for uninhibited foot insertion when the flap (or strap) portion of the heel counter is set in the open position.

Abstract: A zipper slide so configured that the retracted design of the rear side of the bottom slide body block relative to the top slide body block provides sufficient space for allowing the inner layer of the double-layer nylon zipper to be smoothly curved when the zipper slide is cornering, reducing zipper friction resistance and prolonging the zipper lifespan; the upper guard flanges are relatively longer than the lower guard flanges so that the upper guard flanges are kept relatively closer to the center block than the lower guard flanges to shift the fulcrum forward, enabling each of integrated opposing left and right series of interlocking teeth of the double-layer nylon zipper to face toward the fulcrum and the center block when each of integrated opposing left and right series of interlocking teeth of the double-layer nylon zipper is opened to the extent.

Abstract: An elongate article holder comprising structure to organize elongate articles is disclosed. Such an elongate article holder may comprise a flexible non-magnetic band, along with two terminal ends. Various means of securing the two terminal ends to each other are disclosed, such that the band may wrap around the elongate article or coils of the elongate article. In various exemplary embodiments the means of removably coupling the two terminal ends may be provided by magnet(s), which may be substantially protected from environmental harm while simultaneously helping to achieve optimum magnetic closure strength by using tubular apertures/dimples which may run from a cavity housing the magnet to or near a mating surface of a respective terminal end. Further, the elongate article holder's band may comprise an integral closed loop for removably attaching to the elongate article, operating by passing a portion of the elongate article through a formed orifice.

Abstract: A system and method that activates light emission elements controlled by a processor using rigid, rigid-flex, or flex circuitry that causes the light emission elements to illuminate in dynamic patterns, colors, or arrangements based on algorithms that map sensory data captured by a plurality of sensors, such as musical, biometric, behavioral, environmental, visual, or kinetic data sensors. These dynamic illumination patterns or arrangements can coordinate with the user's outfit, environment, motions, emotions, or physiological state. The system and method could be employed in various pieces of curved or straight jewelry such as bracelets, headbands, hair clips, necklaces, choker necklaces, and other consumer products as appropriate. The system can also generate dynamic sequences used for functions other than illumination, for example vibration or behavioral choices, such as whether or not to go outside based on pollution readings analyzed by the processor utilizing environmental sensor data.

Abstract: Among other things, an apparatus comprising a base, rotatable portion, and a rotation mechanism is described. The base is for a supporting device having a bottom surface. When exposed, the bottom surface of the supporting device is for contact with another surface to provide support for a user of the supporting device. The rotatable portion is coupled to the base and is rotatable relative to the base. The rotatable portion comprises a work plate comprising an upper surface and a lower surface. The work plate defines through holes across a plate thickness between the upper surface and the lower surface. The rotatable portion also comprises one or more elements, a portion of which is exposed beyond the lower surface of the work plate. The rotation mechanism connects the base and the rotatable portion.
