Abstract: A cyclic aperture flow regulator system is disclosed to control flow exiting from a body cavity during surgery in a way that post-occlusion surges are effectively suppressed. The system is composed by an adjustable fluid aperture installed in a fluid path connecting the aspiration port of a surgical probe with a vacuum source, the probe to be inserted in a body cavity. The cross-sectional area of the fluid aperture can be modified by the action of an actuator portion driven by a controller. The controller commands the actuators in the actuator portion to modify the cross-sectional area of the adjustable fluid aperture in cycles. Each cycle of aperture dimension fluctuation includes at least one segment where the fluid aperture cross-sectional area is substantially reduced. The segment of each cycle where the cross-sectional area of the fluid aperture is substantially reduced can optionally include a transient complete closure of the aperture.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide systems and methods for treating the retina and/or other areas of a patient's eye. The procedures may involve using one or more treatment beams (e.g., lasers) to cause photocoagulation or laser coagulation to finely cauterize ocular blood vessels and/or prevent blood vessel growth to induce one or more therapeutic benefits. In other embodiments, a series of short duration light pulses (e.g., between 5-15 microseconds) may be delivered to the retinal tissue with a thermal relaxation time delay between the pulse to limit the temperature rise of the target retinal tissue and thereby limit a thermal effect to only the retinal pigment epithelial layer. Such procedures may be used to treat diabetic retinopathy, macular edema, and/or other conditions of the eye. Abstract: Provided is a living body stimulator capable of not only realizing a low power consumption and a light weight, but also improving the degree of freedom of an outer shape thereof. Each of airbags (3-1) to (3-3) is individually provided with one of air pumps (1-1) to (1-3) and one of air tanks (2-1) to (2-3). As for each of pressurization units (41-1) to (41-3), a pressurized air is supplied from one air pump (1-1) to one airbag (3-1) through one air tank (2-1). A control unit (51) is configured to individually control each of the pressurization units (41-1) to (41-3). Therefore, it is possible to downsize the air pumps (1-1) to (1-3) and air tanks (2-1) to (2-3).

Abstract: The invention relates to a device (1) for a controlled cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, said device enabling the user to carry out a quick and incomplicated resuscitation of a human body in the event of a cardiac arrest. The geometric dimensions of the device (1) according to the invention are comparatively small, ranging approximately from 10 and 25 cm in diameter and approximately 6 to 12 cm in height. During use, a mechanical pressure (F) is exerted onto a first pressure transmitting means (2, 22), said mechanical pressure generating a signal (S3, S4), which is perceptible to human organs, upon reaching a maximal exerted force (Fmax), wherein the signal is triggered by a spring element (24, 44) which is arranged between the pressure transmitting means (2, 22) and the base plate (3, 33).
