Abstract: An approach to removing necrotic bone under direct visualization is provided. To remove bone and to watch it being removed at the same time, one example uses an endoscope and bone removal tool assembled together by a sheath. The sheath includes separate passageways for the endoscope and bone removal tool. A surgeon uses the sheath to insert the endoscope and bone removal tool together into the bone tunnel. The passageways are spaced apart such that an axis of rotation of the bone removal tool is offset from the centerline of the bone tunnel. The endoscope remains in the bone tunnel while the surgeon removes bone with the bone removal tool. Advantageously, the surgeon watches the bone removal process as it is happening making the process less tedious and less time consuming.

Abstract: The invention provides a rotational atherectomy device having, in various embodiments, a flexible, elongated, rotatable drive shaft with a system of eccentric abrading heads attached thereto. At least part of the eccentric enlarged abrading heads in the system have a tissue removing surface—typically an abrasive surface. In certain embodiments, the abrading heads may be at least partially hollow. Preferably the eccentric enlarged abrading heads have centers of mass spaced radially from the rotational axis of the drive shaft, facilitating the ability of the system of eccentric abrading heads to work together to open the stenotic lesion to a diameter substantially larger than the outer resting diameter of the enlarged abrading heads when operated at high speeds. Therefore, certain embodiments comprise a system having unbalanced centers of mass to not only stimulate greater rotational diameters but also arranged in a manner whereby a debris-removing augering effect occurs.

Abstract: A compression device and method for interlocking compression nailing systems provide a compression force onto fracture site and a bone fixed between proximal and distal parts of intramedullary nail to prevent stress shielding and improve healing. The compression device having pre-assembled components of set screw, elastic component, distal cap and connector screw are rotated. After nail insertion, the nail is fixed to the bone fragments by inserting the fasteners into distal bores and proximal slot. The compression device is inserted within the bore of the nail. The set screw is screwed to move elastic component and distal cap to push the proximal bone fragment distally. Distal cap overlies on fastener screw shaft to spread compression forces in fastener screw surface to prevent stress concentration. After fracture gap minimization, the set screw is screwed further to compress elastic component to provide desired compression force.

Abstract: An internal fixed bone plates provided for load bearing and non-load bearing fixation for a rotational or translational osteotomy procedure for hallux valgus correction in the first metatarsal bone of the foot. The example include a set design plate having screw holes for attachment of the fixed bone plate to the first metatarsal bone of the foot. Screw holes are located on the plate, including screw holes on top or sides of the plate and screw holes at the ends of the plate. A temporary small holding wire hole may be located in the plate to hold the plate to the bone temporarily. This plate allows both angled screw fixation of various movable, rotational and translational osteotomy and locking screw hole capability to ensure stability when fixating the preferred rotational and translational osteotomy procedure.

Apparatuses may include an ablation device for treatment of tissue including an ablation structure with a plurality of bipolar electrode zones. Each of the zones may include an in-zone channel pair comprising a positive channel and a negative channel. The ablation structure may be configured such that, for any adjacent electrode zone pair comprising a first electrode zone and a second electrode zone adjacent to the first electrode zone, the positive channel of the first electrode zone is electrically distinct from the positive channel of the second electrode zone, and the negative channel of the first electrode zone is electrically distinct from the negative channel of the second electrode zone. Moreover, the ablation structure may be arranged such that a total number of electrically distinct channels that is less than twice a total number of the plurality of electrode zones.
