Abstract: The present disclosure provides microstructured hydrophobic surfaces and devices for gripping wet deformable surfaces. The surfaces and devices disclosed herein utilize a split contact Wenzel-Cassie mechanism to develop multi-level Wenzel-Cassie structures. The Wenzel-Cassie structures are separated with a spatial period corresponding to at least one wrinkle eigenmode of a wet deformable surface to which the microstructure or device is designed to contact, allowing grip of the deformable surface without slippage. Microstructures of the present invention are specifically designed to prevent the formation of Shallamach waves when a shear force is applied to a deformable surface. The multi-level Wenzel-Cassie states of the present disclosure develop temporally, and accordingly are characterized by hierarchical fluid pinning, both in the instance of slippage, and more importantly in the instance of localization.

One or more additional straps (e.g., an ankle strap, one or more interior bootie straps, etc.), fasteners, and/or locks may be provided to engage the upper/footwear with the wearer's foot.

Abstract: A skate boot body has a lower boot portion for receiving the foot and an upper boot portion for receiving the ankle and a portion of a lower leg, in which the upper and lower boot portions are rigidly connected. The lower boot portion fastens the foot relative to the rigid boot body using laces. The upper boot portion fastens the lower leg portion relative to the rigid boot body using an independent upper strap. The upper strap includes a resilient portion, whereby a circumference of the upper portion of the skate boot body about the ankle varies as the resilient portion of the adjustable upper strap is resiliently deformed by flexing of the user's ankle. The resilient upper strap provides an optimal balance of rigid support between the skate boot and user, while still allowing the user to comfortably flex their ankle through a large range of motion.

Abstract: An article of footwear having a self-cleaning surface and a method of making an article of footwear are disclosed. The article of footwear may generally include a sole plate having cleats associated with resilient members. The resilient members may be disposed on a bottom surface of the sole plate in an area near the cleats. For example, a resilient member may be disposed in on the bottom surface of the sole plate in the peripheral area of a cleat. The resilient members may prevent mud from accumulating on the cleats and/or a bottom surface of the sole plate by compressing against a surface of the ground and then springing back, preventing mud from sticking to the resilient member.

Abstract: Manufacturing and assembly of a shoe or a portion of a shoe is enhanced by automated placement and assembly of shoe parts. For example, a part-recognition system analyzes an image of a shoe part to identify the part and determine a location of the part. Once the part is identified and located, the part can be manipulated by an automated manufacturing tool.

The male member is capable of interlocking with the female member and has an arm assembly, a catch assembly and at least one contact point. At least one switch is formed by the contact between the contact point of the male member and the contact point of the female member. An electrical circuit traverses the female and male member, such that when the members are “locked” together the switch is closed and when the members are apart the switch is open. The frame is disposed in the housing, fixed in position in the housing and includes a bottom wall and first and second laterally spaced walls. The latching arrangement is operatively associated with the frame for selectively retaining a latch plate within the housing. The release button is in sliding engagement with the frame and movable between a latched position and an unlatched position. The release button includes a proximal end, a distal end and a first and second laterally spaced apart legs extending between the proximal and distal ends. The proximal end, the distal end and the first and second laterally spaced apart legs cooperate to define an opening into which a projecting portion distally from the proximal end. At least one shield member laterally extends from the projection portion toward the first and second laterally spaced apart legs.
