Abstract: Rodents have incisors that continuously grow and need to be worn down over time. Tear N lair consists of pulp, wood and cotton all combined to make 1 sheet of paper. When the pulp, wood and cotton is combined this creates a gnawing object of different grades of material allowing for proper wear on the incisors of a rodent. The process involves creating and forming layers of fibrous material from a pulp base that when combined create a fibrous wood and cotton paper. This process is creating a material of paper that can be layered with cotton, wood and other forms of paper. Added forms of paper may be soft or harder in grade. Added forms of paper may include shredded paper or wax paper. When joined these materials create layers that allow rodents to tear, shred and separate. Layers that are separated can also be used as a laying material allowing the rodent to rest on top. The separated material creates a cushion of padding.

Abstract: A plenum flooring system is installed over high density insulation panels, capable of preventing both heat loss to ground and intrusion of ground moisture into the flooring plenum space. The system is comprised of one or more flooring segments, each containing at least one surface opening to the plenum space, and a plenum ventilation system. The ventilation system includes a blower and air inlet openings in seals that are arranged along the perimeter of the plenum flooring segments at the walls of the interior of the poultry housing unit. The blower withdraws air from the plenum space through the surface opening of the flooring segment and discharges it into the poultry housing unit chamber, creating a continuous flow of ventilation air to maintain uniform flooring surface temperatures and remove moisture that migrates to the plenum space from manure on the perforated flooring surface due a moisture gradient.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to a non-human genetically modified animal with increased susceptibility to infection with a human virus. The invention suggests to genetically impair the expression of newly identified viral infection repression factors CD302, Cr11, Ndufc2, AW112010, Scarb2 and Zc3hav1, which markedly improves infection with human viruses in none-human hosts. Furthermore provided are methods for the generation of the animal of the invention, methods for increasing or reducing the susceptibility of a cell to viral infection, methods for screening novel modulators of viral infection as well as new therapy options for the treatment of viral diseases, in particular hepatitis C.

A RAG/II2rg KO/hTPO knock-in mouse is described. A mouse engrafted with human hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) that maintains a human immune cell (HIC) population derived from the HSCs and that is infectable by a human pathogen, e.g., S. typhi or M. tuberculosis is described. A mouse that models a human pathogen infection that is poorly modeled in mice is described, e.g., a mouse that models a human mycobacterial infection, wherein the mouse develops one or more granulomas comprising human immune cells. A mouse that comprises a human hematopoietic malignancy that originates from an early human hematopoietic cells is described, e.g., a myeloid leukemia or a myeloproliferative neoplasia.

Abstract: In the invention the growing surface of an apparatus for growing invertebrates is increased by a body or bodies (202) located in a growing chamber (201). When food is added to the growing chamber it is spread over at least some of the surfaces of bodies and the inner wall (203) of the growing chamber. This means that the area where invertebrates can grow is increased. The body or bodies are movable with respect to the inner wall of the growing chamber. This allows mixing the added food and other compounds in the growing chamber and it keeps air routes between bodies open.
