Abstract: Ground-engaging components for articles of footwear include: (a) an outer perimeter boundary rim that at least partially defines an outer perimeter of the ground-engaging component, wherein the outer perimeter boundary rim defines an open space at least at a forefoot support area of the ground-engaging component; and (b) a matrix structure extending at least partially across the open space at least at the forefoot support area to define an open cellular construction with plural open cells in the open space at least at the forefoot support area. A plurality of these open cells of the open cellular construction have openings with curved perimeters and no distinct corners. Additional aspects of this invention relate to ground-engaging components that are very lightweight yet very stiff, particularly in the forefoot support area. Two or more sizes of the ground-engaging components may be provided with substantially constant forefoot stiffness (optionally substantially constant over a size run).

Abstract: A pair of sole plates for a complementary pair of articles of footwear may generally include a first article with a first sole plate and a second article with a second sole plate, where the first sole plate is asymmetrical with respect to the second sole plate. The first sole plate includes a first groove that extends along a first lateral side of the first sole plate, and the second sole plate includes a second groove that extends along a second medial side of the second sole plate. The asymmetry of first sole plate with respect to second sole plate may improve performance, flexibility, and agility during running and in particular, during athletic events along a curved track.

Abstract: Modular footwear and a method of manufacturing that uses pre-manufactured outsoles each with a plurality of clips that fit into recessed clip openings formed on the top surface of the outsole. Disposed over the outsole is a mid-sole pad with clip openings configured to be aligned and registered over the clips located on the outsole. Disposed over the outsole is a shoe upper with a plurality of hook members configured to attached to the clips located on the outsole. Disposed inside the shoe upper is air upper sole pad that covers the mid-sole pad. Because different shoe uppers may be used with the same outsole, footwear retailers only need to carry a limited number of outsoles and a wide selection of shoe uppers to offer a wide variety of different styles on footwear. Customers can purchase different shoe uppers and exchange them on the outsoles to create different styles of footwear.

The articles are generally formed, in whole or in part, using rapid manufacturing techniques, such as laser sintering, stereolithography, solid deposition modeling, and the like. The use of rapid manufacturing allows for relatively economical and time efficient manufacture of customized articles. The articles may include one or more reinforcements configured to provide added durability to various regions of the articles. In addition, the articles may be formed from two or more materials in a single rapid manufacturing process. The rapid manufacturing additive fabrication technique may also include using of varying intensities of the laser to fuse material to form the articles.

The heel counter may also include wing portions that extend up to a lacing region of the article of footwear. The wing portions may have eyelets that can be engaged by a lace. As the lace is tightened, the outer frame member is pulled forward to lock down the foot while the inner elastic member stretches and conforms to the heel to provide increased support.

When a PED is placed within the case, the fit of the PED and the case causes the cushioning member to press against the PED in order to create a cushion for the PED in the event of an outside force being applied to the case. The storage system may also generally include one or more of a hang rod, side bracket, shelf trim, end cup, support bracket, and/or shelf. The shelf may be supportable by the back channel, a pair of side brackets, and at least one support bracket. The side brackets may be mountable along sidewalls of the closet and/or to the at least one wall or the storage system that is mountable along the back channel. The hang rod may supportable beneath the shelf when first and second end portions of the hang rod are supported by respective first and second end cups.
