  • Patent number: 5860322
Abstract: A drive mechanism of a suction or deflection adjustment roll having a spur wheel gear. For a suction roll, a stationary suction box may be guided outward through the drive mechanism to be coupled with a suction device. An external gear ring may be rigidly coupled to a driven or gear end of the roll to mesh with a driven pinion. The driven pinion may be driven via a drive shaft coupled to the driven pinion through a pair of enmeshed gears. • Patent number: 5816144
Abstract: A precision roll stand includes a roll housing absorbing the rolling forces. In the roll housing rolls constituting a roll pair with their roll chocks are mounted so as to be rotatable and mutually adjustable by an adjustment device which changes the axial distance between the pair of rolls. A drive housing including a roll drive is connectable with the roll housing while establishing a drive connection of the roll drive with the rolls and being removable from the same while undoing the drive connection. In order to produce rolled products exhibiting extremely high measuring accuracies and to be able to exchange the rolls quickly and without difficulty, the roll housing has a frame which is open in the direction of adjustment of the rolls and contains and guides the chocks of the rolls. A crosshead for closing the frame carries the adjustment device designed as a pressure medium cylinder and is rigidly connectable with the frame. The drive housing is supported on the crosshead.

  • Patent number: 4859274
Abstract: A packet-type laminating machine for laminating a flat object between two sheets of protective plastic film, comprising a pair of closely spaced heating platens with a flared opening at one end designed to accept the insertion of a packet-type laminable plastic pouch and a pair of manually driven outlet compression rollers at the other end of the heating platens designed to compress and withdraw the heated laminable plastic pouch wherein all components are adapted to readily insert through openings in or drop into recesses in the tope edges of sidewalls during assembly of the laminator. Such a laminator is extremely efficient to operate and is readily assembled and repaired, leading to reduced operating, maintenance and capital investment costs.

  • Patent number: 4796452
Abstract: A setting device for adjusting the position of a roll with respect to a mating roll, as in the press section of a paper machine, or the like. A roll trunnion or journal at the end of the roll is received in a bearing which is supported in a bearing housing that is axially outward of the roll. The outer part of the bearing is in turn supported to an actuator which is shiftable to move the roll transversely of its axis with respect to the mating roll. A base plate hydraulically supports and raises the actuator for the bearing housing. A guide plate supported to the base plate extends past the roll trunnion or journal. Linear motion guide elements for guiding the motion of the bearing housing under the influence of the actuator are provided. They are guide claws on the bearing housing which wrap around the guide plate and move along it. An additional actuator piston operates on the roll trunnion or journal to move it in the opposite direction from the actuator.

  • Patent number: 4455930
Abstract: Method and apparatus for delivering twine to a baler knotter. The baler (10) which performs the method includes a bale chamber (16) having a forward inlet end. A knotter (64) is disposed to one side of the bale chamber and the baler is of the type having feeding means including a pair of rollers (36) which are moved back and forth across the inlet end of the bale chamber. A portion (90) of the twine is supported on the lower feed roller as the rollers are moved back and forth across the inlet end of the bale chamber. A pickup needle (110 or 302) is associated with the knotter, and at the initiation of the tying cycle moves from an at rest position towards the lower roller to pick up the twine and then to a position above the twine disks (140) of the knotter to deliver the twine to the knotter and then returns to its at rest position. The twine is tensioned by a twine drag (144) and a pigtail type tensioning mechanism (146) both during the formation of a bale and during tying.

  • Patent number: 4452135
Abstract: A fire hose retracting and flattening apparatus has a first endless belt having a width at least as great as that of the hose to be retracted which is mounted in a main frame so as to have a generally planar run thereof on which the hose can be lain. The belt is mounted so as to be operatively connected to a motor to effect the driving thereof in a retracting direction. First and second pairs of rollers are provided which co-act with the planar run of the belt to retract and flatten the hose disposed thereon. The first and second roller pairs are mounted above the planar run, with the first roller pair downstream of the second roller pair, for pivotal movement between a first position wherein the first roller pair is adjacent to the run and the second roller pair is spaced apart therefrom and a second position wherein the first roller pair is spaced apart from the run and the second roller means is adjacent thereto.

  • Patent number: 4344211
Abstract: Apparatus and method for high pressure sizing, including sizing squeeze apparatus which effectively utilizes high pressure squeeze loading to remove excess sizing from the warp yarns, and thus to reduce the water evaporation requirement of the yarn. The high pressure sizing squeeze apparatus includes positive drive of the rubber-surface roll as well as the steel roll to prevent slippage which could strain the warp, and maintains a substantially invariant squeeze loading irrespective of variable tension in the roll drive. The surface speed of the rubber-covered squeeze roll may be slightly less than the surface speed of the steel roll, to reduce the torque required to drive the rubber-covered roll at relatively high squeeze pressures where substantial slippage is encountered. A torque limiter controls maximum axial drive torque supplied to the rubber-surface roll, in response to the magnitude of squeeze loading.

  • Patent number: 4040888
Abstract: Laminated safety glass panels comprising sheets of rigid transparent material, such as glass, polycarbonate, acrylic plastic, polyester and the like, alternating with interlayer materials, such as polyvinyl butyral, polyurethane and the like, are prepressed to remove entrapped air at the interfacial surfaces to prepare the assemblies for final lamination. When the relatively rigid plies to be laminated have unsmooth surfaces, such as wavy surfaces, or surfaces having imperfections due to the penetration of the sheet during thermal treatment by tongs or other solid members that engage the rigid transparent sheet during its heat treatment prior to assembly for lamination, the preliminary pressing performed by the prior art techniques is insufficient to prevent oil from an oil autoclave used in the final laminating step from penetrating into the interfacial surfaces between adjacent rigid and relatively flexible layers of the assembly to be laminated.
