Patent number: 7601930Abstract: Compression-resistant heating frame, comprising an upper plate and a lower plate which are secured to each other, and a heating layer interposed between the two plates. Force-absorption studs are disposed between the two plates in order to protect the heating layer against deformation by compression of the plates against each other. The studs are distributed to permit regular heating of each plate. The force-absorption studs are distributed at the nodes of a rectangular, hexagonal or centered square network. The force-absorption studs preferably include a flange to distribute the compression force on a metal base sheet which is interposed between the upper plate and the heating means. Thermal insulation material is interposed between the heating layer and the upper plate. The heating layer may comprise a film through which an electric circuit passes in order to produce heating by joule effect.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2004Date of Patent: October 13, 2009Assignee: Bobst S.A.Inventors: Christophe De Gaillande, Michel Piguet

Patent number: 7178376Abstract: The invention relates to a forging press of the hot-die type with an operating temperature above a temperature T, comprising two dies between two die support elements, a thermal insulation means being placed between each die and its support element. The press is characterized in that the said means comprises at least two superposed layers (A, B), a first layer (A) comprising a first material having mechanical and thermal properties suitable for operation at a temperature above the temperature T, a second layer (B) comprising a second material having mechanical and thermal properties suitable for operating at a temperature below the temperature T, the thermal conductivity of which is lower than that of the first material and is approximately equal to 0.2 W/m·K, with a tolerance of 10%. Thanks to the invention, it is possible to obtain an effective thermal insulation means of small thickness.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2005Date of Patent: February 20, 2007Assignee: SnecmaInventors: Jean-Pierre Bergue, Gilbert Leconte

Patent number: 6972072Abstract: A device embodying the invention comprises a pair of members presenting a lower base surface and a member presenting an upper parallel surface when in an operative position. A platen pad material, which converts microwave energy to heat, is provided on one of the surfaces. When in an operative position the two platens provide uniform pressure over the surfaces of a laminating pouch carrying a document. The device is placed in a domestic microwave oven and the oven is operated for a period of time dependent on the rated power of the oven, the size of the document and the energy conversion capability of the platen pad. The platen pad converts the microwave energy to heat energy while applying uniform pressure over the surfaces of the pouch. This produces liquefaction of the adhesive which bonds the film to the document. The device is then removed from the microwave oven, permitted to cool, the lamination removed, and trimmed as may be necessary.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2003Date of Patent: December 6, 2005Assignee: Murph, LLCInventor: Willis A. Patent number: 6821381Abstract: A ceramic holder 2 is mounted on the lower end of a connecting block 30 of metal mounted on the lower end of a tool main body 1 of metal, such ceramic holder 2, a ceramic heater 4 and a ceramic presser 5 being sintered. In addition) the coefficient of linear expansion of the ceramic holder 2 is approximately equal to those of the ceramic heater 4 and ceramic presser 5; furthermore, the thermal conductivities of the ceramic holder 2 and ceramic presser 5 are greater as the pressure side of the ceramic presser 5 as seen from the ceramic heater 4 is approached and are smaller as the attaching surface side of the ceramic holder 2 is approached.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2003Date of Patent: November 23, 2004Assignee: Toray Engineering Co., Ltd.Inventors: Akira Yamauchi, Yoshiyuki Arai

Patent number: 6655268Abstract: The present invention is a portable, compact hot press. The hot press includes a frame that has a press unit attached thereto. The press unit has a crown plate, a bolster plate, and a base plate. An upper press unit is attached to the crown plate and a lower press unit is attached to the bolster plate. The lower press unit is configured to contact the upper press unit when the press is in a closed position. The press further includes a control unit attached to the frame. The control unit is configured to manually or automatically control press operation. Additionally, the press includes a hydraulic unit that is attached to the frame and is configured to facilitate motion of the press operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2001Date of Patent: December 2, 2003Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Peter N. Patent number: 6228200Abstract: A belt press uses differential thermal expansion between parts of a platen assembly to generate pressure. The belt press typically includes substantially aluminum platen assemblies that are connected such that movement of the second press surface away from said first press surface is limited. A plurality of expansion limiting rods are aligned generally parallel to the top platen's longitudinal axis and attached thereto. The expansion limiting rods preferably are attached via adjustable couplings to sturdy anchor bars laterally disposed across the platen and rest against two or more bridging rods midway along the length of the platens. The expansion limiting rods have a coefficient of thermal expansion that is smaller than the coefficient of thermal expansion for the platens.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1999Date of Patent: May 8, 2001Assignee: Belt Equipment, Inc.Inventors: John A. Patent number: 6048436Abstract: A continuously operating press is described for the manufacture and/or coating of board webs consisting of a fleece or mat in which the press belts are supported on a lubricant film formed on a slide lining. For the marginal width adjustment of the press zone the slide linings are subdivided into a main zone and adjoining marginal strip zones respectively. In one embodiment of the invention transition zones are in each case provided between two of these slide lining zones and are either made groove-free or provided with blind grooves, which serve neither as supply nor as discharge for lubricant. In a further embodiment of the invention adjacent grooves in these slide lining zones are alternatively provided with supply and discharge openings for the lubricant.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1998Date of Patent: April 11, 2000Assignee: Kvaerner Panel Systems GbmH Maschinen-und AnlagenbauInventors: Ulrich Haupt, Peter Hoffmann

Patent number: 5611267Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying variable pressure to a surface. The apparatus includes a frame secured to a fixed structure and located proximate to the surface. A foot is mounted for movable relation relative to the frame in a direction substantially perpendicular to the surface. The pressure applicator is connected to a pressure device which biases the applicator away from the surface. The present invention also includes a variable pressure source connected to a control device for varying the pressure supplied to the pressure applicator that is ultimately applied to the surface.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1995Date of Patent: March 18, 1997Assignee: Corrugated Gear & Services, Inc.Inventor: David M.
