  • Patent number: 5713268
Abstract: A screw press in which a screw continuously dewaters a suspension. The screw has a threaded section and a downstream compression section with a variable squeeze, and the screw is powered to forward the suspension. A housing accommodates the threaded section and the compression section with the variable squeeze. The suspension is admitted in dilute form at an intake at one end of the press. At another end of the press, the suspension is delivered in dewatered form downstream of the compression section through an outlet. The housing is in the form of a wire basket permeable to liquids and impermeable to solids, and is axially displaceable back and forth adjacent the unthreaded compression section between a non-operating position and an operating position to vary an effective length of the basket. This effective length is zero in the non-operating position for emptying the press.

  • Patent number: 5664492
Abstract: A metal shavings and chips compactor for extruding oil from metal chips and shavings and compacting the metal into easily transportable pellets. A compactor cylinder contains a piston and has an opening through which an auger feeds metal chips and shavings. A gate doses an end of the cylinder. A first hydraulic drive drives the piston under low pressure to close the opening and apply a first compacting pressure on the metal to form a loosely compacted pellet in the cylinder. High pressure then operates the piston to form a compact metal pellet substantially void of interstices. A second hydraulic drive opens the gate; the piston is operated at low pressure to discharge the compact metal pellet from the chamber and oil is collected below the cylinder. The compacting pressures are achieved through mechanical advantages provided by the size of the piston to that of the first hydraulic drive.

  • Patent number: 5579683
Abstract: In supplying material for pressing (37) into the press chamber of a filter press for separating solids and liquids, the filling operation (F) is done interruptedly in a first step (P1) at a fill opening (44). A press element (36) executes a plurality of pressings up to a constant stroke position (HS). Not until a second method step (P2) is the filling operation (F) interrupted, as soon as the pressing pressure exceeds a limit value (PS), whereupon the pressings are continued with shortened strokes. The method offers automatic adaptation of the prefilling time to the pressability of the materials. It thus becomes possible to prefill highly differently pressable material automatically and without specifying a command value in such a way that an optimal performance is attained in terms of the yield and the juice extraction output of a filter press.

  • Patent number: 5575200
Abstract: A determination of the amounts of fill of material (7) to be pressed in the solid-liquid separation by means of a filter piston press with a pressure element (6) for several successive pressing operations is made with the aid of a consideration in the yield/output diagram. Under a presupposition regarding the position of characteristic curves connecting various operating points in this diagram and by the interposition of an imaginary operating point it is possible to determine the changes in yield and output for each pressing operation and therefore the amounts of refill to be used in such a way that a maximal product of yield and output results for the solid-liquid separation operations when predetermining free process values. The method provides an automatic adaptation of the fill time to the compressibility of the materials.

  • Patent number: 4947743
Abstract: Apparatus for compacting and advancing a mass of particulate or fibrous material to a discharge end of a conduit combines an auger with a reciprocating annular piston. The improvement of the invention is in driving the piston by way of a flywheel equipped crankshaft which also drives a dynamically counter balancing member to reduce vibrations transmitted to the frame of the apparatus. Special hydrostatic guide sleeves are used to guide the reciprocating piston at a high speed. Further improvements include gas and liquid vents and a cooling jacket, both associated with the conduit to increase efficiency of the compacting. A density sensor controlled conical choke member at the discharge end assists in maintaining uniform density of the highly compacted plug of the material. Also, it breaks up the exiting plug to improve subsequent processing of the material.

  • Patent number: 4924405
Abstract: A potentiometer is driven by one of the serpentine arm assemblies used to maintain apron tension during formation of a round bale so that the output of the potentiometer continuously provides an indication of the size of a bale being formed in the baler. A microprocessor based control circuit senses the output of the potentiometer, converts it to a digital value, and compares the digital value with a value representing a desired bale size. When the two values are equal, the microprocessor computes the number of revolutions of a net feed roll that is required to wrap the bale a preselected number of times, energizes the net feed roll mechanism to feed net into the bale forming chamber, and counts the revolutions of the net feed roll. When the required amount of net has been dispensed, the microprocessor stops the net feed roll and activates a mechanism to cut the net. The size of a "full bale" is selected by actuating keys on a control panel.
