  • Patent number: 11040557
Abstract: A cutting head-including printer includes at least one driving roller, a pair of side pinch rollers, a center pinch roller provided between the pair of side pinch rollers, and a roller moving mechanism that causes the center pinch roller to approach, or to be separated from, the at least one driving roller. The cutting head-including printer sets whether to perform cutting after printing or to perform the printing after the cutting. During the cutting performed after the printing, the cutting head-including printer separates the center pinch roller from the at least one driving roller. During the cutting performed before the printing, the cutting head-including printer locates the center pinch roller at a position where the center pinch roller holds a recording medium together with the at least one driving roller.

  • Patent number: 10525687
Abstract: A tandem system of metering and donor rolls is used to apply two different adhesives to a fully adhesive backed multilayer sheet to produce variably distributed adhesives and properties. Each of the two adhesives is unique and is cured differently to create a layer of adhesive that has differing adhesive properties on the sheet. A clear adhesive is applied to a top portion of cards before they are cut from the sheet and has a higher tackiness than the adhesive applied to the rest of the cards on the sheet in order to reduce glue buildup on blades cutting the cards from the sheet.

Abstract: Both Laser printers and Inkjet printers have undergone many improvements in the last 10 years—mainly becoming faster and with better resolutions, and with prices going down all he time. However, one of the biggest limitations of all these types of printers has remained the same all the time: They print just on one side of the page. Although some printers on the market have an optional additional unit for mechanically flipping pages over, these units are typically cumbersome, expensive, and require extra space. Also, with mechanical flipping there is a higher chance for various malfunctions. Being able to efficiently print on both sides of the page can have many advantages: Saving paper costs, saving trees, saving office space or home space, being able to double the printing speed, being able to easily print eBooks, and more.

Abstract: A multi-color, web-fed rotary printing press provides a shortened construction. A web passes vertically downwardly through a plurality of bridge printing units which are arranged one above the other. A lowermost one of these bridge printing units has a transfer cylinder that changes the path of web travel from a generally vertical direction to a generally horizontal direction in route to a downstream located device, such as a drying device.

Abstract: There is provided a printing press with a sheet-turning-over-mechanism for turning over a printing sheet, enabling the printing press to be selectively operable in a one-sided printing mode and a double-sided printing mode. The printing press includes a controller which, when any failure stops any one of steps of a mode switching operation for switching the printing press from the one-sided printing mode to the double-sided printing mode or vice versa, stores the information representative of a state of the mode switching operation at the moment of the stop due to the failure, and when a normal operable state is restored from the failure, resumes the mode switching operation from a step of the mode switching operation indicated by the operational state stored therein.

Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and method for duplex printing of a sheet-like substrate in a continuous single-pass flat printing process. The device comprises a first conveyor unit in communication with a feeder and a second conveyor unit in communication with a delivery. Each conveyor unit has a printing device and a drying/curing device disposed adjacent to the conveyor unit for applying a printed material to the substrate. A transfer device is disposed between the two conveyor units for transferring the substrate from the first conveyor unit to the second conveyor unit and turning the substrate, thereby allowing both sides of the substrate to be printed. Alternative embodiments may include any number of conveyor units and transfer units.

  • Patent number: 6431065
Abstract: The present invention reduces stains, prevents the degradation in print quality, reduces the work for removing stains, and decreases the machine size. To achieve the present invention, the sheet-feed perfecting press has top surface printing devices and back surface printing devices which each has an ink arrangement, a plate cylinder, a rubber blanket cylinder, and an impression cylinder and are arranged alternately. Also, the printing press is provided with two intermediate cylinders between adjacent printing pressure points of a plurality of printing pressure points at which a pressure is applied to a sheet at the time of printing. The diameter of the impression cylinder is made larger than the diameter of the plate cylinder, and the intermediate cylinders are arranged in a zigzag form with respect to the horizontal line. Thereby, a grip change position at which grip change of sheet to the intermediate cylinder is made is kept away from the printing pressure point.

Abstract: A printing press including a frame and a central impression drum rotatably supported on the frame. A plurality of first side printing stations is circumferentially spaced about the central impression drum and in communication therewith. Each of the plurality of printing first side printing stations is adapted to print an image on a first side of a substrate. A perfecting printing station is disposed at a position about the central impression drum. The perfecting printing station includes a multi-purpose drum having a substrate retainer for securing the substrate thereto. The multi-purpose drum forms an impression cylinder and is in communication with an image transfer cylinder for imparting an image on a second side of the substrate. An ink fixing unit is disposed between the first side printing stations and the perfecting station. The ink fixing unit fixes the image on the first side of the substrate prior to the image being imparted on the second side of the substrate by the perfecting station.

Abstract: A printing press for newspaper production comprises several printing units each having two plate cylinders for concurrently printing on both sides of a web, each plate cylinder having several predefined plate-mounting positions. The control system includes an assignment controller for putting out ASSIGNMENT INFO indicative of how all the printing plates to made for each newspaper issue are assigned to the plate-mounting positions on the plate cylinders. A plate-maker controller provides CONTENTS INFO indicative of at least the page number of each printing plate being made. In response to the ASSIGNMENT INFO and CONTENTS INFO a printer controller produces POSITION INFO indicative of the desired plate-mounting positions on each plate cylinder to which the printing plates are to be mounted, causing a printer to print the POSITION INFO on each printing plate that has been made.

Abstract: Sheets are printed by being automatically run twice through a printing machine. The first sides of each of the sheets are printed in one, or a plurality of colors during a first printing pass. The sheets so printed are then placed in an intermediated storage facility, which is located within the printing machine. These sheets are then rotated 180 degrees and are printed on second sides in one or a plurality of colors during a second printing pass. The sheets are then fed to a final storage device.

  • Patent number: 6073556
Abstract: A transfer cylinder for supporting freshly printed sheet material between printing units or at the delivery unit of a printing press is provided with an ink repellent, flexible jacket covering for supporting and transporting the sheet material without transfer of wet ink from one sheet to a successive sheet and without smearing the ink or causing indentations on the surface of the sheet material. The circumferential support surface of the transfer cylinder is covered with a conductive, fluoropolymer layer secured to the surface of the transfer cylinder beneath the protective, wash-free disposable flexible jacket covering. The low friction properties of the conductive base covering permit free movement of the ink repellent, flexible jacket covering relative to the transfer cylinder surface. Electrostatic charges delivered to the flexible jacket covering by the printed sheet material are drawn away from the flexible jacket covering and are discharged into the transfer cylinder by the conductive base covering.
