    Abstract: Provided are an image forming apparatus and an image forming method capable of coping with a medium exceeding a transport limit of a pair of rollers in image formation in which the medium is transported with the medium interposed between the pair of rollers. In a case where a medium exceeding a transport limit of first transport means to which medium transport using a first roller and a second roller is applied is used, second transport means is used to assist in the medium transport performed by the first transport means. The driving of second driving means for driving the second transport means is controlled using a driving signal applied to the driving control of the first driving means for driving the first transport means. Medium transport in which synchronization is taken between the first transport means and the second transport means is realized.

    Abstract: The present invention is a method to generate alignable orthogonal images from non-orthogonal scans in a double-sided digital-offset-press arrangement by shifting the image data in the multi-channel modulators in a direction and rate that keeps the images orthogonal. The image data is shifted parallel to the cylinder axes and the amount of shift per cylinder rotation equals the distance the multi-channel modulators move relative to their respective cylinders per rotation of the relevant cylinder. This prevents “parallelogram” type distortion in the images and maintains the orthogonality of the original images, thereby allowing the images on the opposing sides of the printing medium to be aligned. The shift can be done continuously or in discrete steps. The invention is also extendable to two-dimensional modulators such as deformable mirror devices (DMD) and liquid crystal light valves (LCLV).

    Abstract: A passbook page turning mechanism includes independently movable and spaced upper rollers and independently movable and spaced lower rollers which are vertically movable and which grip the passbook and move the passbook from a printing station to a page turning station. A pair of upper and lower longitudinally movable rollers serve as apparatus to turn the pages of the passbook. At the page turning station, a lower roller of the pair of rollers is raised to flex the passbook and an upper roller of the pair of rollers is rotated to turn the page and to complete the page turning operation after which the passbook is moved to the printing station. The lower roller of the pair of rollers is also displaceable in the longitudinal direction from the upper roller of the pair of rollers. The mechanism also provides for turning one or more pages in the opposite direction from the direction of a normal page turning operation.

    Abstract: A system of printing information on opposite sides of paper board envelopes using heat sensitive films or foils fed between transfer die members and envelopes passing therebetween. The system includes a supply magazine or the like, a conveying system for conveying the envelopes from the supply source to and through the several printers. The printers are longitudinally spaced along the conveyor path and are so located such that information can be printed on both sides of the envelope. At the end or the last printing station a second conveyor or transfer device is provided to transfer the just printed envelopes to a work station wherein delicate articles, such as hosiery, panty hose, etc., are placed therein. The system includes common and well known automatic control means to intermittently feed the envelopes to the several printing stations and subsequently to the envelope filling station.

    Abstract: A perfecting printer comprises a feeding roller for successively feeding cutforms accommodated in a feed stacker onto a transfer path provided with pairs of reversible transfer rollers. Each cutform is first transferred forward past a printing unit without printing. The cutform is then transferred rearward and printed on its front face. The one-face printed cutform is then guided into a return path which joins the transfer path at a position before the printing unit. Upon passage through the return path, the cutform is turned over and returned to the stacker by a turnover unit disposed above the stacker. Finally, the turned over cutform is transferred forward and printed on its rear face again by the same printing unit.

In such construction, the single shutter can guide the book for both printing and page turning.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for selectively turning the pages of a book forward and backward. The apparatus of the present invention comprises a roller, first transfer means, pressing means, driving means, and second transfer means. The roller can rotate selectively in one and the other rotating directions. The first transfer means selectively transfers the roller between first and second positions. The pressing means presses the book against the roller. The driving means drives the roller to rotate selectively in the one and the other rotating directions. The second transfer means moves the book so that one page of the book lifted by the roller is laid on top of the other page. In such construction, the pages of the book can be turned selectively in the forward and backward directions by means of the single roller.
