Abstract: A magnetic zipper includes a pair of mating strands each having a plurality of spaced teeth formed on an inner edge thereof with mating notches formed therebetween. Positioned within each of the notches on both strands is a magnet having a given polarity. Attached to each tooth on both strands is a magnet having a polarity opposite that of the given polarity. The size or geometric configuration of the teeth and notches successively vary so that the two strands cannot be inadvertently joined when misaligned. Accordingly, when the teeth on one strand are positioned near or in their designated notches on the other, the zipper strands firmly adhere to close a garment opening. To open the zipper, a garment wearer simply pulls the tenuously-held zipper strands apart.

One of the manufacturing processes involves cutting a magnetizable substrate into a number of slices and adhesively coupling the slices to a sheet that can take the form of a layer of grinding tape. After concurrently grinding a first surface of each of the slices, the slices are flipped over so that the first surface of each slice is attached to another layer of grinding tape. A second surface of each of the slices is then ground until a desired thickness is achieved. Subsequent to the grinding, dicing operations can be applied to the slices to produce magnets having a desired length and width.

  • Patent number: 6948432
Abstract: A method and apparatus for mounting printing plate segments on a printing plate carrier comprising accepting positioning data indicative of a set of first positions and loading the imaged segments onto a working surface of the loading table at approximately the corresponding first positions. The method further includes, for each segment, detecting the position of the segment on the table, and using a mechanical pick-up system to pick up the segment and to carry the segment to a final position on the carrier. The carrying is via a path determined using the detected position on the table and the final position. The table's working surface has a set of vacuum holes coupled to a vacuum system. The mechanical pick up system includes a plurality of suction caps coupled to the vacuum system to pick up the plate. One version includes a mechanism for cutting the segments from the sheet.

  • Patent number: 6944970
Abstract: The invention provides a dryer for a printer such as a print on demand wallpaper printer. The dryer has a compartment with an opening across the top. The opening is in a path of a moving media web which is printed on by the printer. The opening is optionally covered by a door. A source of heated air is located above the opening and blows heated air downwardly onto the door, or the opening if the door is open. In general, the door covers the opening and acts to support the web when the door is closed. When the door is open, the moving web can enter the compartment.

  • Patent number: 6925934
Abstract: A cylinder of a rotary printing machine has a peripheral surface which is divided into at least two segments that are situated adjacent to each other, in an axial direction of the cylinder, by a circumferential groove. Those circumferential grooves can be closed by the placement in the groove of a suitable inlay or insert element. That inlay or insert element is formed of several parts, typically of two inlay or insert parts, whose peripheral surfaces complement each other to form a continuous cylindrical peripheral surface on the cylinder after the inlay or insert parts have been placed in the grooves.

  • Patent number: 6920825
Abstract: An improved rubber stamp fastening and printing device consisting of operatively magnetic or veritable magnetic stamp-die components and an outer magnetic connecting mount, utilizing distinct vertical magnets imbedded within a transparent material. Both the stamp-dies and mount are provided with suitable magnetic means with which to maintain a secure, yet easily manipulable magnetic bond; where these components are themselves composed of are either magnet, or ferromagnetic materials. The combination between strong slender vertical magnets or and the viewable negative spaces within the compositional translucent material create a superior transparency through the mount; this ability to directly view the see the magnetically fastened stamp-dies from reverse, allows for a very high degree of control and ability to accurately place these magnetic stamp-dies during the process of stamping.

  • Patent number: 6837160
Abstract: A magnetic clamp for firmly clamping the edge of an imaging media on an imaging bed has one or more magnetic assemblies located in a clamp frame. The magnetic assemblies include magnets which may be permanent magnets, the magnets are prevented from contacting the imaging bed surface by pole pieces. The pole pieces contact the surface of an imaging bed thus channelling the magnetic flux generated by the magnets through the surface to provide a clamping force. In one embodiment, the magnetic assemblies are slidable in a frame to allow clamping of different thickness media.
