  • Publication number: 20130074721
Abstract: A method includes creating a stream of uniquely-addressed mail pieces on a web offset press by printing on sections of a web, separating the sections of the web, and printing unique address information on each section of the press-printed material. The unique address is printed by a variable printer according to a mail file of intended recipients. The stream of uniquely-addressed mail pieces is conveyed in a shingled formation. An on-press conversion of the stream of uniquely-addressed mail pieces into a plurality of batches of stacked mail pieces is performed, each batch containing only mail pieces belonging to a common mail delivery group. The on-press conversion includes controlling via the controller the creation of batch separation points among the mail pieces according to the mail file, conveying the stream of mail pieces in the shingled formation into a stacking device, and stacking the mail pieces with the stacking device.

Abstract: Before image data are screened for the subsequent exposure of a printing form, files needed for the screening step are changed in such a way that the values of individual elements in the data fields are changed. The number of elements whose values are changed is determined by evaluating contiguous regions within the data fields. These can be, for example, threshold value matrices in which individual matrix elements are set to a value corresponding to the color white, or which, for the half-tones, are calibrated to a reduced value of the full-tone density. In the latter case, the full-tone image points are screened with a frequency-modulated screen.

  • Patent number: 8054493
Abstract: Methods for processing print jobs in rendering devices include modifying a raster operation function to have fewer variables than originally specified by the print job. Processing may also include executing the modified function and determining how many variables the function originally includes and whether such is one or more. Preferably, the modifying of the function includes determining whether a variable of the function has a black or white identity, such as a black or white ink or a black or white image, stencil or character. It may also include determining whether a destination variable remains unaltered in a to-be-painted area. Printers having stored computer executable instructions for performing the steps are also disclosed as are host devices that may direct or control the printer to perform the same.

Abstract: A printing press has at least one first printing tower with at least one first printing unit that has several offset printing couples which are usable to print on one or on both sides of a first web which runs through the first printing unit substantially from the bottom to the top. The web is printed in multiple colors in the first printing tower. A dryer is arranged downstream of the first printing unit and along the conveying path of the first web. A former structure, with at least one former through which the web runs, is located downstream of the dryer. At least one nipping roller is located downstream of the dryer and upstream of the former. A spreading device is provided between the dryer and the at least one nipping roller that is located upstream of the former and along the conveying path of the first web.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an imprint method is disclosed. The method can include forming a liquid droplet of a transfer material with a volume greater than a predetermined reference volume by dropping the transfer material onto a major surface of a processing substrate. The method can include reducing the volume of the liquid droplet to be less than the reference volume by volatilizing the liquid droplet. In addition, the method can include filling the transfer material into a recess provided in a transfer surface of a template by bringing the liquid droplet having the volume reduced to be less than the reference volume into contact with the transfer surface of the template.

Abstract: A method for closed-loop or open-loop control of ink feed in lithographic offset printing presses having at least one inking unit, a control unit and an operating element for adjusting the ink feed across a predetermined ink feed control range, includes subdividing the predetermined control range into partial ranges in the control unit. At least one adjustment parameter of the inking unit or the printing press is assigned to each partial range in the control unit. The control unit determines the appropriate partial range as a function of the ink feed selected with the operating element and adjusts the selected ink feed in the inking unit with associated adjustment parameters in the inking unit and/or in the printing press.

Abstract: A web offset press includes several printing units through which a web passes essentially in a horizontal direction. The printed web then passes to at least one first folding unit. Each of the printing units has at least one plate cylinder and one transfer cylinder which interacts with the web being printed. An effective plate width of the plate cylinder corresponds to the print image of at least eight upright or prone printed pages in a BIN 4A format. The printed web is slit longitudinally into a plurality of web strands: A first number of these web strands are supplied to the first folding apparatus. At the same time, a second number of web strands, produced by the slitting of the same web, are supplied to a second folding apparatus for further processing.
