    Abstract: An apparatus actuatable under a rotary acceleration having a predetermined duration and magnitude. The apparatus including: a body having a first channel and a second channel, the second channel being disposed radially offset from the first channel; a mass disposed in the first channel, the mass having an arm disposed at a first end of the mass and the arm being rotatable from a first position in which the arm cannot move within the second channel to a second position in which the arm can move inside the second channel; a first biasing spring member having a first end connected to the body and a second end connected to the arm such that when the arm is subjected to the rotary acceleration greater than the predetermined duration and magnitude, the arm is biased to rotate from the first position to the second position; wherein the mass is connected to the arm such that the mass moves in the first channel and the arm moves in the second channel when the arm is biased into the second position.

    Abstract: A fuze for a munition adapted to prevent unintended arming thereof. The fuze incorporates an arming screw having a keyed portion and a centrifugal locking mechanism for preventing rotation of the arming screw unless the fuze mechanism is in a rapidly spinning condition such as that experienced when the fuze and its associated munition are deployed from an airborne rocket or artillery shell, and thus spinning at a rate of at least several thousand rpm. The centrifugal locking mechanism includes a pair of locking members which are biased by biasing elements into engagement with the keyed portion of the arming screw. This prevents the arming screw from being accidentally unscrewed from an inertia weight within the fuze, thus placing the fuze in an unintended armed condition.

    Abstract: The base fuze of a spinning projectile possesses a detonator capsule which is pierced by a firing pin. The firing pin is connected to a hammer sleeve. An inertia body is arranged behind the hammer sleeve in order to improve the response sensitivity of the base fuze. Upon impact of the projectile at the target, the inertia body, due to the inertia thereof, drives the firing pin conjointly with the hammer sleeve against the detonator capsule. This inertia body is subdivided into a number of sector-shaped portions which contain substantially cylindrical sections and truncated conical sections. A bore of a fuze housing within which the inertia body is arranged possesses a shoulder. This shoulder serves to support the truncated conical sections of the inertia body such that due to the spin of the projectile an axial force is produced which acts upon the inertia body causing it to impact against the hammer sleeve.

    Abstract: The mechanism consists of a one coil spring disposed a spaced distance about the inner circumference of a cylindrical housing; and a lever pivotally attached to said housing. When the device is subjected to centrifugal forces the coil is forced outward towards the inner wall of the cylindrical housing causing the two ends of the coil to be separated. Once separated, the lever may pivot causing one end to contact the inner wall of the cylindrical housing and the second end to pivot away from the inner wall of the cylindrical housing and contact a activating device.

    Abstract: A fuze for a spinning projectile has a firing pin which is held against movement by a safety device until the projectile has traveled a preset distance. The safety device comprises a coil spring strip which overlies the firing pin in its initially coiled-up state, and releases the firing pin when in a centrifugally-induced expanded state. The spring coil is arranged to be highly elastic so as to be returnable to its initially coiled-up, evenly wound state, even after the projectile has been subjected to jarring during transport, etc. The coil strip has a tensile strength of 1200 to 2800 N/mm.sup.2 and a thickness greater than 20 .mu.m.
