Smoke Generating Patents (Class 102/334)
  • Patent number: 11054141
Abstract: A steam-based faux fireplace comprising a boiler configured to receive a fluid and generate steam, and a manifold configured to receive the steam from the boiler and emit the steam to generate a steam plume at an output. The manifold has a conduit configured to route the fluid about the manifold to heat the fluid before being routed to the boiler. The manifold is already heated due to the emitted steam. This configuration pre-heats the fluid before being presented to the boiler, allowing a smaller low power boiler to be used because the manifold acts as a fluid pre-heater. A very realistic faux flame with a significant length is generated from the low power boiler. In addition, the manifold includes a deflector configured to receive the impinging steam from the output, causing the steam to lose some energy and billow about the deflector and then illuminated to create a realistically looking flame.

  • Patent number: 10989505
Abstract: A fragment-free propulsion of a cartridge-type ammunition, including a propellant casing and a high-pressure chamber, wherein the high-pressure chamber accommodates a propellant powder and, in the bottom region, a primer, having at least one overflow bore. To avoid fragments, a membrane, which separates the high-pressure chamber and a low-pressure chamber from one another and which does not tear to connect the high-pressure chamber to the low-pressure chamber when pressure is built up but instead is bent, is embedded in the high-pressure chamber. For this purpose, the high-pressure chamber additionally has a cap, the membrane, and a body. The membrane is embedded in the body and is secured by the cap. In addition, the membrane covers a gap that is formed by an outer diameter of the cap and an inner diameter of the body, and into which the membrane is bent when pressure is built up.

  • Patent number: 10670380
Abstract: In order to obtain an explosive smoke grenade, which can be fired from a portable anti-tank weapon, in particular a recoilless infantry weapon, and permits an enemy position or a vehicle to be fogged as quickly as possible, so that the enemy has only a very limited radius of action, a explosive smoke grenade is provided with a time fuse that can be programmed such that the burst charge detonates in the direct vicinity of the enemy position but before the grenade has reached the ground, and releases the smoke-generating active material. In addition, the pyrotechnic active substance arranged between the burst charge and the grenade casing is formed of a plurality of film strips, which are coated with a red-phosphorus-containing incendiary composition (flares). For this purpose, the dimensions of the flares are selected such that they generate a visibility barrier in both the visible and the infrared wavelength regions.

Abstract: A smoke producing method and device of the present disclosure produces a non-incendiary, organic-polymerization based, smoke-producing reaction. The method of generating smoke comprises initiating a frontal polymerization reaction by heating a composition comprising a monomer compound that exothermically polymerizes upon initiation with an initiator compound and an initiator compound that initiates polymerization of the monomer compound present at a mass concentration that is at least five percent of the mass concentration of the monomer compound. The polymerization of the monomer compound is exothermic, and in one embodiment the concentration of initiator compound is at least five percent of the concentration of monomer compound. The smoke mainly comprises thermal decomposition products of the initiator compound.

Abstract: A forty millimeter caliber exercise bullet has been improved for properly exploding on a target, and securely maintaining the unloaded status during ordinary time. The improved exercise bullet is comprised of: a skirt (200), a striking pin (10), a safety device assembly (300) consisting of a detent cover (310) with a central mounting groove (311) and a pair of mounting grooves (312), a detent (320) for retaining the striking pin (10) by engaging or disengaging into the circumferential groove (11) by springs (323), a detonator cap (330) forming a hollow pocket (331) to insert a detonator trigger (20), a washer (30), a press-spring (332) for pressing a guiding cap (340), an explosion pipe (400), a smoke shell (500), and an ogive (600). When the bullet is fired, the rotation of the bullet generates centrifugal force to slide the retainer outward for disengaging the circumferential groove. Then, the striking pin moves upward to impact the detonator trigger when it hit on the target.

  • Patent number: 8245644
Abstract: A smoke generating system that complies with the EPA's standard design criteria, which call for separate black and white smoke generation chambers, a smoke stack with exhaust fan, an electronic opacity monitor (transmissometer), and a recording device for the transmissometer data. It includes a redesigned black smoke burn chamber that can be operated on diesel fuel only, eliminating the need for toluene. The white smoke generator is improved by including an automatic temperature control circuit to maintain fuel evaporation chamber temperatures between 700 and 900 degrees F. The unit also employs an induced draft fan (injector) dilution air system. This system eliminated the prior art fan system and significantly improves the dilution air flow characteristic by establishing a gradual differential flow gradient. The entire system is mounted on a self-contained chassis that can be transported to any desired location. In addition, audio equipment installed provides amplification for the instructor during classes.

Abstract: A method for production of an infrared area emitter which can be used for defense against guided missiles with infrared homing heads, for example for ships. According to the invention, an aerosol cloud which is emissive in the infrared range is produced by the reaction of a first primary aerosol composed of an aqueous solution of an electron acceptor with a second primary aerosol composed of an aqueous solution of an electron donor in order to produce the infrared area emitter. The use of primary aerosols such as these leads to emission at 3-5 and 8-14 ?m, and does not produce any visual signature either.
