  • Patent number: 8800452
Abstract: A rail-road intermodal freight system. In an embodiment, a plurality of L-cars are provided. In an embodiment, each L-car may be configured for support at its forward end on a preceding L-car, and at a rear base on a set of flanged rail wheels. In implementing the system, a freight yard is provided with rail components which are switchable to enable decoupling and a turn-in-place operation, wherein each care is lifted from the preceding L-car in the train, and the neck portion of the L-car lowered to the ground. When in the lowered position, downwardly extending legs on the over-the-road trailer enable an over-the-road tractor to attach the over-the-road trailer in conventional fashion, for removal of the over-the-road tailer from the L-car. Loading of an over-the-road trailer on the L-car takes place via a reverse process, wherein the trailer is backed up on to the L-car.

  • Patent number: 8622352
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a guideway switching mechanism includes an elongated section of flexible guideway coupled to a switch plate. The flexible guideway has a first end that may be coupled to a first elongated guideway and a second end that may be selectively coupled to one of a multiple quantity of alternative guideways. The switch plate provides selective coupling of the flexible guideway to multiple alternative guideways by movement through an arcuate path such that the automated transport vehicle may selectively move from the first elongated guideway to either of the alternative guideways.

  • Patent number: 8166884
Abstract: A switch assembly for magnetic levitation railways includes a girder extending in a travel direction (x) and flexible transversely to it is provided with travel way or equipment parts. A rail and a rack are located transversely to the travel direction. A load-bearing frame, receiving the girder, has a rotatably supported carrying wheel braced on the rail and a drive mechanism with a gear wheel meshing with the rack and with a motor intended for driving it. Switch adjustment is effected by displacement of the load-bearing frame along the rail by means of the drive mechanism and a thus-effected flexing of the girder. The girder, the load-bearing frame and the drive mechanism form a solidly joined-together structural unit which as a whole is located displaceably in the travel direction (x) relative to the rail and the rack.

  • Patent number: 7588215
Abstract: A mount for a magnetic levitation railway has functional elements (9, 10, 11) for guidance of a vehicle for the magnetic levitation railway, on both sides along its longitudinal extent. The mount is in the form of a bending mount (2) of a switch arrangement and can be moved elastically from a first position of a first driving direction of the vehicle to at least one second position of a further driving direction of the vehicle. The bending mount (2) is produced essentially from concrete.

  • Patent number: 6739267
Abstract: A movable track connection between the ends of travel paths for wrap-around track-guided vehicles, especially magnetic levitation railway vehicles is provided. The moveable track connection has a set of S-shaped deformable bending points (1) for changing track. A bearing (4, 6) along half the length of deformable bending points has a vertical axis of rotation, which cannot move in the longitudial direction of the bending points (1).

  • Patent number: 6499588
Abstract: A conveying system for conveying items along a conveying line (1, 2) includes a guide device (3) extending along the conveying line and at least one conveying element (5) movable along the conveying line and guided by the guide device (3). The guide device (3) and conveying element (5) are designed for conveying the items substantially independent of gravity. For selectable connection of the conveying line to a plurality of connecting points (A.1-A.3) the conveying system includes, connected to a invariable conveying line region (1) with a fixedly mounted guide device, a variable conveying line region (2) in which the guide device (3) is reversibly bendable and twistable. For bending and/or twisting the guide device and for supporting the guide device in a bent and/or twisted position necessary for a specific connection, a drivable connector (8) is provided. The variable conveying line region (2) may be an end region of the conveying line.

  • Patent number: 6279484
Abstract: A mechanism is disclosed for actuating a switch guide beam swinging laterally between two or more fixed guide beam ends, in order to make a route selection for a beam guided vehicle. The moving guide beam pivots distantly of the primary fixed guide beam end to create a gap spanned by an intermediate suspended channel plate guide segment that provides substantially two equal lateral deflections to the moving vehicle for a route diversion in a storage yard or repair shop area. The mechanism for high speed or main line operation has two additional channel plate guide segments slidably guided at each end of the guide segment centrally affixed on the straddle beam and pivoted at the primary beam fixed end and the merge point on the radially moving swing guide beam to provide four substantially equal lateral deflections to the moving vehicle when a route diversion is required.
