  • Patent number: 10857896
Abstract: A reversible, driverless, fully electric or plug-in hybrid tractor-trailer includes a trailer equipped with autonomous reversible self-propulsion and steering equipment and configured to dock with one or two tractors in a pulling and/or pushing configuration. The tractor(s) are equipped for autonomous navigation. Replacement tractors can autonomously navigate from a charging and/or refueling facility to the tractor-trailer and can further autonomously execute a swap-out procedure by which spent tractor(s) are replaced by the freshly charged tractor(s). The replaced tractor(s) then autonomously navigate back to the charging and/or refueling facility, while the tractor-trailer continues, nonstop, toward its destination. Where allowed by law, combination multi-trailer road-train vehicles can be formed by connecting trailers to trailers and also possibly inserting a tractor between trailers that are attached to both ends of the inserted tractor.

  • Patent number: 10370011
Abstract: A lifting system for rerailing a rail vehicle is particularly suited for rerailing a locomotive. The lifting system has a support profile of an undercarriage structure of the rail vehicle as a lifting point for a rerailing device, the profile support running transversely to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle on a front end of the rail vehicle. It further has a gripping element, which can be lifted and lowered by the lifting device, including two hook-shaped gripping brackets, the hooked profile thereof corresponding to the support profile. The gripping brackets for lifting and lowering the rail vehicle by gripping under the support profile can thereby be symmetrically engaged at the vehicle longitudinal center plane. By this means, a lifting system for rerailing a rail vehicle is provided, in which a frontal lifting device positionable in front of the rail vehicle can be used.

  • Patent number: 7926425
Abstract: A tram has a lead vehicle and one or more trailing vehicles coupled to it. Each vehicle has sets of front and rear wheels, both sets being steerable independently of the other. A manual controller provides signals to a processor in the lead vehicle, which in turn steers the front and rear wheels along a desired path. A processor on the first trailing vehicle controls front and rear servos to steer its wheels according to the path of the rear wheels of the leading vehicle. The second trailing vehicle has a processor that steers its front and rear wheels according to information provided by the first leading vehicle. Steering sensors on the vehicles sense distance to a steering rail while the vehicles are on a guideway and provide signals to the processors for automatic steering. While on a guideway, the tram uses power collectors to transfer power from the guideway.

The supply units may contain vital devices such as current collectors, transformers and power converters for extracting power form a contact line and feeding it back into the contact line or converters of primary energy into electrical energy. The control units can be configured to be independent of current and load. The transportation units may differ according to whether they are for transporting passengers or goods and according to the type of good being transported. The interfaces of all of the units are uniform and are configured in such a way that the units can be interchanged quickly and easily.

  • Patent number: 6474488
Abstract: An electrical contact coupling (3) is provided for automatic center- or central buffer couplings for rail vehicles, more particularly for claw couplings with protective arm, rotatable claw and fall bar of the “AAR” or “Janney” type or with two rigid claws and claw bar of the “Willison” type. The coupling has a contact carrier (8) secured to the coupling head and guided so as to be displaceable longitudinally in the longitudinal direction of the center buffer coupling. An economic and flat-construction solution, indicated for a center- or central buffer coupling of the aforementioned type, for the design and arrangement of an electrical contact coupling (3) and an air line coupling (12) is achieved wherein the longitudinally displaceable contact carrier (8) is arranged underneath and on a supporting unit (1) which for its part is elastically supported on and secured to the coupling head underneath the said coupling head.

Abstract: The invention concerns a floor making it possible to circulate between two vehicles connected together by an articulated connection. The floor according to the invention includes a first deck fixed to the end of one of the vehicles and a second deck fixed to the end of the other vehicle. These two fixed decks are each partially covered by a movable deck, and are connected to each other by two deformable members including links and connecting rods. The movable deck is thus guided kinematically by the deformable parallelogram during the movements of the vehicles, notably when going round bends.
