Abstract: Disclosed herein is a composition comprising a non-dusting copper pyrithione dispersion comprising small solid particles of copper pyrithione dispersed in a liquid dispersant, said solid particles having a particle size within a range of from about 0.1 to about 10 microns and a median particle size of from 0.2 to less than 0.5 microns. The dispersion is suitably employed as an antifouling additive for marine paints without risking worker exposure to copper pyrithione dust. Paints containing the small particle copper pyrithione exhibit improved antifouling performance in cold water, as compared to paint containing larger particle copper pyrithione.

Abstract: An alkoxylpropyl isothiazolinone of formula: C6H6Cl2NO2SR, in which R is CH3, CH2CH3, CH(CH3)2, CH2CH2CH2CH3, CH2CH2OCH3 or CH2CH2OC6H5Cl. A method for preparing the isothiazolinone by reacting sodium polysulphide with methyl acrylate to obtain dimethyl dithiodipropionate, followed by aminolysis with alkoxyl propylamine to obtain N,N?-dialkoxylpropyldithio-dipropionamide, which is then reacted with sulfuric chloride. The alkoxylpropyl-isothiazolinone of the invention can be used for preparing marine antifouling paint coating as antifoulant, and also used as bactericide.

Abstract: A material and method for treating timber. The material comprises a preservative and a carrier. The carrier is selected such that it remains mobile within the wood and provides for migration of the preservative within the treated wood. By providing a carrier which is mobile within the wood, the timber has a ‘self healing’ effect wherein the carrier/preservative migrates to any freshly cut or exposed surface of the wood to thereby redistribute and treat such a surface within the preservative and hence maintain integrity of a treatment envelope surrounding the wood.
