Abstract: An angle-dependent interference pigment based on transparent or translucent inorganic flake serving as a substrate is provided. The substrate is coated by coatings (A)+(B)+(C) and optionally coating (D), so as to form a “high-low-high” refractive index layered structure. The coatings (A) and (C) consist of metal oxides, silicate, aluminates and/or a mixture thereof. The coating (B) consist of silicon oxide, hydrous silicon oxide, aluminum oxide, hydrous aluminum oxide, magnesium oxide, hydrous magnesium oxide and/or a mixture thereof. The angle-dependent interference pigments have high color saturation in the transitional region and a significantly gradual color change in the color changing region. The present pigments can be used as colored coatings, including printing ink, or can be used in the preparation of plastics, glass, ceramics and the like. The pigment of the present invention is particularly used in the cosmetic industry which has a very high requirement on gradual color change.

Abstract: A biocompatible material from which solid structures such as for example screws or plates can be manufactured, which are used for fixing bone fractures or damage and display an adequate mechanical stability. A mixture of apatite and a magnesium alloy, in the form of chips or powder, is ground in a ball mill until a homogeneous mixture forms. The homogeneous mixture is consolidated in a second step. This can be carried out by extrusion or forging. The desired shape can then be extracted from the obtained solid material by machining.

The metal oxide is reducible by metallic aluminum. The slurry has such a basic pH that dissolution of the aluminum particles in the slurry is inhibited so that when the slurry is subjected to a heat treatment, the undissolved aluminum particles are reactable with the colloidal particles to form an aluminum-based mixture resistant to chemical attack made of aluminum oxide, metal aluminum and the metal of the colloidal particles.
